*ALL NEW* Plarail Gordon 2015 Unboxing Review and First Run

- Hi Guys and Gals, Here we have the all new 2015 Plarail Gordon that has a brand new design! But is it any good? Lets start the review!
TOMY has a long standing history with Plarail Trains and they have been making them for over 50 years! TOMY have been making Thomas and friends trains to suit the plarail motorized systerm since 1992 and the range has had many names since then, Tomica, Tomica world, TOMY Road & Rail and they eventually went on to be Trackmaster which is of course now owned by Mattel, So thankfully for now at least TOMY still has the license to make Thomas and friends and bring us high quality trains such as this. But will Mattel (who now owns the whole Thomas brand) renew TOMY's license to make Thomas trains after this year? I wouldn't bet on it :(
Anyway enough of that rant and I'm sure you all know the situation by now so lets have a good look at the redesigned Gordon!
This new Gordon is the first version of Gordon to run on a single AA battery contained in the boiler of the locomotive itself, the tender is there for looks only now and no longer holds the battery, This is a good thing because Gordon remained mechanically unchanged since around 1994 and was surely tired of hauling a C sized battery around haha. New Gordon features redesigned siderods and they are good looking although remain as a solid piece when he is moving, they are more pleasing to the eye than the older version. The switch side of the boiler is flat and square near the cab and this led many to comment that he looks Like Henry, happily the other side of the boiler is normal. Gordon has fake front wheels which while better than nothing they look very out of place to my eyes at least. The cab windows are now solid blue and I would have liked to have seen them at least painted black. Other than all those things he has the new animated happy face and he looks great!
His drive unit is the new type with a complicated gearset and a sliding switch, I have come to kind of like the simplicity of the Trackmaster revolution drive units so having an engine that free rolls is surely not the reason for such a complex gear set in the drive unit? I have also noticed that with so many moving parts the batteries just don't last as long as they did in the older type of drive units. But despite the complex drive unit he runs butter smooth and never really had any problems hauling 7 express coaches around the whole track. A very useful engine then? Yes!
I give this Plarail Gordon a 9/10, I would have like the cab windows to be painted but that is a minor complaint. They certainly put allot of work into this design and other recent designs which is weird for a company that will shortly lose the rights to make motorized Thomas toys.

Great review Ucwepn. Not sure how I feel about the redesigns, might order them to have a good look up close but I don't know if I'd use them in my videos. From what I've sceen I think the original designs are better but by this point I'm probably too biased towards them to be objective. Does the coal lift out of the redesigned Gordon's tender btw?

This is a really cool model. The siderods, the detachable tender and the moulded wheels really improve this model over the old one.
The one thing I dislike is the sheer size of the cab, it’s really long and boxy so it makes the model look really short in comparison.
If it had a shorter cab the the 2002 version, it would be a far better looking model.
9/10 for me. Pretty noice model overall.
I just got one of these today when I was supposed to get the older model, and I have to say it's a lot batter than I expected, but I still would prefer the older model
Cool video, I like this Gorden mostly because of his side rod but I prefer the older one for its shape and detail.

Personally, I think the fake small wheels are a nice touch! It's making this rather tempting...

Awesome review! I think the Plarail 2015 Gordon looks amazing although I don't like the small plastic wheels at the front. I mean I know the old Tomy characters like Murdoch had small plastic wheels at the front but I think it just makes the character look weird, unrealistic!

I like the font on the new tender better, the old one seemed a little odd to me. i could probably just chop n' change.

Looks pretty good for a Gordon with a de-tachable tender, I do like the Revolution one even though it's not that accurate.

deano91209 Hi I too like the original Plarail Version of Gordon but it's good to try something new sometimes :) The artwork I have in the background, one is a tea tray from 1984 (a genuine Australian licensed probuct!), the other is a canvas print, both were found for a couple of dollars each at thrift stores which are a goldmine for toy hunters!

I'd say 8/10 for Gordon. One point off for the fake wheels and the other point is the windows, I mean they could have at least painted them black

The number of C size battery trains redesigned to hold double A's is massive - there should have been none! Anyway the change ruins the Plarail scene itself for there's less traction and Mr. Motorman cannot fit in.(On Yahoo Auction there was an AA version,though.

Hi I have been collecting them over time, you used to be able to buy them by themselves from plarail and they also came with the older version of gordon.
They show up on ebay from time to time. I was able to find two red express coaches last month, but I got my first red express coach in a set a few years back.
This comment section has significantly more camcer than a usual Ucwepn video..

I dont really like the new trackmaster. ther is absolutely no detail on the trains or rolling stock. i am really hoping that tomy thomas and friends trains will appear in the stores again so that i wont need to order it online

+Thomas No. 1 Fan 7 coaches is the limit for a slow engine as the coaches topple over in the corners because the train doesn't have enough momentum, fast engines can do 10+ coaches around my layout. I have around 16 express coaches all up I think :)

Henry's new look doesn't look too bad. Edward's redesign gives me bad deja vu.

I made some custom Connor, Caitlin and Express brake coaches using Spencer's coach
1) You'll need how much Spencer's coaches you want to customize
2) Unscrew the bottom of the coach/coaches so nothing will get dirty of paint
3)You'll need White or Cream paint for the windows and black or dark grey for the front, back and roof
4) Choose either Red or Green for the sides
5) If you wanna do Connor and Caitlin's brake coaches, you have to EXACTLY match the colors on the engines or their coaches
