- What happens when you start gluing matches together? Because the heads are slightly wider than the wooden bodies, they begin to form a sphere. This was an experiment in how many matches it would take to get all the way around to make a perfect globe. After months of gluing and gluing and gluing we made it to the other side. Then the experiment shifted to see what it would look like when this thing burned. Enjoy!

That was actually pretty before it was lit. Looked like a green Saturn with the subtle lines around it like layers. After it looked like the dark side of the moon. I wonder how many BTU’s that put out as it burned. You know that was a lot of heat.

Apparently the Chicxulub asteroid that precipitated the extinction of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago started massive fires across the earth. This kind of gave me an idea of what that might have looked like.

carabidus I would have started the fire at the bottom, knowing flames travel up. These people should have shown their safety precautions also, like fire extinguishers or water or something. I thought the wood on the inside would have burned. Maybe no air? And doesn't hot glue "let go" when exposed to heat?

I was rooting for the southern hemisphere to get to other side first. It fell behind initially but made a valiant last- moment charge that netted a draw. Oh, and BTW, the guy with the beard is a real class showman. He could have just lit the fire with the first match but had the guts to build the tension with apparent ineptitude, until finally lighting this thing.
