I deleted my Instagram over a year ago and not only do I feel better about myself I also view my relationships differently. People on Instagram ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND!
Yeah it's big fake and some of them only follow you just to get you to follow them and then unfollow you if you don't follow them I only have it for my music but other than that I really don't need it 👍🏼✨
Lol couldn't give a shit who does or doesn't follow me. I go on there to see what friends are up to and to view the awesome photos. Not just of people but nature and technology. Just learn how to think things in perspective that's all.
Agree, I have a “fake” ig only because I like watching them craft video and other things but o don’t know anyone and no one knows me it’s def helpsz even if u don’t want to for some reason u compare your self to people u know
I'm more contemptuous of all the astoundingly perfect and yet somehow still so totally homogenized artificial images and "art." No one and nothing looks real anymore and it's so fking boring.
I recently went on vacation with a friend and every single place we went to was just a photo opportunity for her. She didn’t get to experience the beauty of the atmosphere or the company she was in because she was so focused on curating the perfect Instagram posts for the trip. Getting rid of my social media was a decision I definitely don’t regret.
I had a miserable date and yet the guy wanted to take pictures of us to post on Instagram. This guy took me on a date. I went with him just to make him stop pursuing me because this mf wouldn't take NO as an answer.. The date was boring AF, we dont vibe at all and the only thing that was good was the food. He finally understood that this wouldn't work since we arent compatible at all, something I have been telling him for a long time but wanted to post on IG. He wanted people to know that we were on a date. I wonder if all the persuasion was for Insta.
🤢 this crap makes me want to vomit. Almost every beautiful experience is tainted and cheapened by people sensationalizing locations and entities with angular filter saturated images / video
I decided to create a Facebook account soon afterwards I felt such a disturbance within I deleted the account and the feeling went away I believe it was because I was connected to all sorts of evil people.
People get so shocked when I say I don’t have any other social medias than UA-cam. Because there’s literally no point in having them, I use UA-cam to watch videos like this and relatable ones.
I’m glad I’m not alone on deleting these social medias. In my eyes it’s not healthy at all. I caught myself stuck opening the app every 10-20 minutes. I don’t miss it one bit.
I feel like social media has ruined the dating scene. The dating scene is terrible atm its filled with people who do not know what they want because they are lost chasing something better. Constantly chasing for something better till we run out of time.
Nailed it! Dating like your at a poker table. You have to leave the poker table when your chips are up, and it’s looking good. Maybe you don’t have the biggest jackpot, leave when you chips are up. If you keep playing, keep thinking you’re gonna hit bigger money, the house is always gonna win. You gotta know when to get the hell off the table and leave the casino with a good amount of money. Otherwise you’ll end up thinking the jackpot is right around the corner, if I just spin it..one more time then I might get someone. Take what you’ve won and simply watch it evolve overtime, investing it and now it’s even bigger. But you wanting that instant jackpot..right now..right there..will have you broke. Play smart, and understand nothing and no one is perfect….we’re ALL unfinished designs, love is so much more beautiful that what is televised. Comparison will have you losing someone truly amazing!
I already stopped using Facebook and Instagram few weeks ago and I believe that social media must be banned for minors as it is very harmful for development.
It seems that the death of Instagram that is currently happening is due to Mark's ideas. It was interesting to hear that Kevin only wanted the platform to have a small number of ads, and for the platform to remain a photo sharing app. Instagram has too many different things going on now and it's lost it's original identity.
That is like any other application you have on your phone. From MySpace, Facebook, UA-cam, snapchat, Instagram, telegram, and so on. They go the same way. You think you will have a team of 10 ppl making sure the application you use everyday, won't get paid... they have to make money. They make all these free app use in beginning to lure ppl in (just like lots of Instagram accounts, they are legit content until they get a huge fan base then they start posting random stuff because they get paid for it).. just like youtube, back in the day youtube had 0 advertisements (around 2008).... if you dont pay for the product, you are the product.
Mark is a man with no soul or moral compass. Instagram was always a bad idea. It’s turned an entire generation into mindless zombies willing to do anything for a few likes from total strangers. I like the quote at the very end. The best moments in life are when you put the fucking camera down and just enjoy yourself.
I deleted my Instagram account about a year ago and I've never been happier. Although I get a lot of people coming for me for doing so(bc I'm only 17 and people think I'm "missing out") I always prioritise my mental health and peace. I still get asked till this day if I'd go back on the app anytime soon and honestly, I don't think so. Instagram is really toxic these days and I just wish that people could see that.
I'm 20 and in exactly the same boat. My friends make fun of me (lightly) for not having insta, so usually I just have to say I'm a "Dino" because I don't have it. It's a shame it's seen this way. I stay off it because of the horror stories I've heard about it being harmful for people
You're very brave. I deleted my Facebook in 2010 when I was just 16 years old. That was the happiest time of my life. Till now I don't have Facebook. Only use Instagram to share my healing experience that's all.
that closing line was powerful. i really loved the old 2012 instagram. after facebook made all those changes, i stopped using it. i gotta say, life without facebook or instagram lessened my stress exponentially
I’ll never forget when I found Instagram. Not a single one of my friends had it. I thought it was a photo editing app until I realized it “posted” my photo which was a selfie with the family dog. I deleted the app since it wasn’t what I thought it was, maybe a year or two later is when it blew up. I thought it was the dumbest idea for an app, still do.
I first started using FB in 2005. That's right, 2005! No one, and I do mean NO ONE, was using it then. It truly was dead as a graveyard lol. Ironically, I miss those days! It's eventually turned into an uncontrollable monster; negative in every way conceivable. Haven't been apart of it for a decade or more and that's how it will remain.
@@joshentertainment2 I hear this so many times, I didn't understand how people got stressed from SM. But when you can't put down your phone for eight mins and you have a severe case of FOMO...stressed.
a few years ago i never could’ve watched this without clicking off of it a minute later and now i watched the entire 23 minutes, my attention span is getting better and it’s so amazing
"Sometimes the best experiences are the ones where you put the camera down truly immerse yourself in the movement and realise you never needed a filter after all" Well said man❤️
"the photo was becoming more important than the experience itself" this is horribly true, sometimes i find myself wanting to go somewhere just to take pics for my insta, and i get mad at my family or freinds if they didn't let me take good photos,
I stopped taking selfies or my photos taken by someone else for roughly 4 years now because I realized when I was focused too much on taking my photos I was missing out on the beauty of places I was going to and I don't have any good memories of the places. Hence, I started taking photos of traveling and food but to a limited extent so that I can put away my phone and enjoy and EXPERIENCE the moment- which my family and friends completely understand. but last week I went on a day trip with my gym mates who don't know me personally. All of them were so busy taking selfies and TikTok videos that they were barely looking around their surroundings and how pretty the resort is. They were shocked to see me as an odd one out to take no single photo of myself. they constantly made comments "why aren't you taking your photos" and I was so pressurized and tired of explaining myself that I'm not comfortable. later that day I posted all the photos I took of that beautiful resort where one of my gym mates commented " I never saw the resort from this angle!" So I put the caption "the reason why I don't take my own photos is because I enjoy nature, unlike you who don't even know this view was right in front of your eyes."
Not where I saw this but I remembered it as it was *so* true: Do you have Facebook? No. Do you have Twitter? No. Do you have Instagram? No. What do you have?? A life.
I deleted my Instagram and Facebook 6 months ago. My mental health was terrible. I’m now feeling so much batter in such a short amount of time. I was at a restaurant last night for my birthday with my husband. We had a lovely night chatting and not looking at our phones once! All around me I noticed everyone taking pictures of their food and I’m guessing posting it on social media… they weee then on there phones on and off every 5 minutes or so. Thank God I woke up and got out of social media.
@@leahberry3167 well, i think yt is better. It's a media without so much social that could build comparison anxiety. In yt, we can view informative videos. Just be selective and avoid shorts. Short killing time and promoting procrastination is another story.
and yes, i'm on my journey on deactivating ig. Taking pictures but keeping it only for memories (not everyone is necessary to view your photos in social media). For a silly reason that i used as a motivation, i am deactivating my ig account 'cause i don't have fancy iphone cameras or decent android cameras to impress people hahaha ..
I’ve been off Snapchat for 3 years, Facebook for 6 months and Instagram for 3 weeks, learning the truth is vital. My mental health is much better & I have peace of mind now with no plan of ever returning.
Me too man, on top of that you long in just for curiosity and as soon as you know, you’ve spent two hours doing absolutely nothing, watching absolutely bullshit
me too I deleted Instagram and Facebook a week or more and Snapchat I deleted thousand years ago. I can tell, it’s much better without it and the fact that all the people are viewing something on instagram, tiktok or things like that, I am SCARES of those things
Since dumping social media, I realized just what a slave I was and how depressed I got when seeing other people have fun and party. I was never pretty enough, cool enough and even "friends" would talk shit about me. Trust me, once you dump that turd, you are light enough to fly!
Social media has nothing to do with it. You are responsible for your own happiness. Why is so important to you what other people are doing? Why do you need to be a parrot? Why can't you just enjoy yourself and your life disregarding what other people do at that same moment? This is a much deeper issue than social media.
Lol I hope you know all the “fun, partying, seeming like they are popular or important of some sort,” Is all a fake big lie. You can do anything and pretend and make it seem real. Think of social media life as cat fishing 🤡😬😬😬🫢trust me! It’s not real 95% of the time.
@@babydollers2586 agree 👍, I am a hairstylist and hear the reality every day. The bigger love fest display, the bigger the divorce, the bigger the cash flashing, the bigger the bankruptcy.
Wow that guy really had his destiny. He was offered jobs at Facebook and Twitter, denied it and then went to create his own successful app? That’s crazy.
Keep believing that he was a normal guy. They already come from well off families and with help they get better. Normal people don’t even have opportunities like this.
I hated instagram from the start because it destroyed photography and made anyone believe they were photographers on a massive scale. Thus photography died instantly in 2012 and never recovered.
As a former photographer I couldn’t have worded this any better. You spend hours on an edit just for someone to feel they can edit better via filters. Photography used to be such a joy..!
Your video just made me delete my Instagram. In the almost 2 years that I've had this app I constantly justified having it to "promote my acting career." But guess what? Almost 2 years went by and, aside from a reel I posted that racked up 1.2k views, Instagram didn't do shit for my career! Thank you, man. 🙏❤️🙏
Do it delete them all take your life back they think they own us and they have !! It's time. We're all in this together enough of the hate and division. Truth is power... lies are powerless
Deleted all social media except UA-cam and Pinterest. My life has been so so much better since. It really dragged me down every single day. I can’t see why I would ever go back - it’s like you can’t see how bad it really is til you’re on the other side of it. I had no hobbies at all and since quitting about 2 months ago and now have started 3 hobbies and counting! Plus I have ADHD and never thought I’d ever be able to get my head to concentrate on anything worthwhile, whilst watching people on social media doing those “worthwhile” things that “I never had time for”. I feel so free from those toxic chains now and feel like im progressing. I’ve wasted so much of my life just scrolling into the abyss and getting nothing enriching out of it.
That is true that is really true because I had been using Instagram and I noticed that my mental health became worse because of the pictures of perfect girls , my friends who always hang out, I stop using Instagram and I felt much better and now I’m working on my confidence and self value and I suggest that do not use ig if you don’t wanna have mental problems because like showing everything to the world it’s not the happiness about be happy for yourself not for them. Do not show your happiness for them. Show yourself and hold your own hand and go on because life is about the moment enjoying the moment not like picturing it and posting on social media just take care of yourself! I wish you all the best❤
I had permanently disabled my Facebook and Instagram accounts and stopped using Snapchat for a month now, I'm not gonna lie my mental health started improving and I'm now focused on my life, not others' lives. And I recommend others to try to quit social media.
I haven’t had Facebook for 3 years!!! One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I would deactivate and get back on like every other day, and then some girls misinterpreted what I said and I got a lot of backlash and that was enough for me to finally leave. I’m happy I got that inspiration to make it official.
Instagram changed the scene of social media cause it was very popular for kids. I remember when Instagram first came out and I had just got my first iPod touch, I’m 19 now, and I noticed a huge shift take place over the years. It was almost instantly everyone had to have Instagram and everyone started acting differently. It only got worse as high school began. Sometimes I wonder what it would’ve been like to grow up before Instagram and all other social media sites.
What was it like before everyone had cell phones and we're addicted to mindsucking nonesense? .. about the same. Except people knew how to express themselves to each other better. They were more out going and animated. People were a bit more unique. Because they weren't all being indoctrinated to see, feel, accept.. the same exact things at the same time. Though this was still being done by television. One of the largest things atleast where I live I have seen change since I was young. (I'm 35 now) is it seems lots of kids and people in general are fat now. When I was a kid it was rare kids were fat. Maybe 1 out of 40-50 were even pudgy. The ones who were pudgy or "husky" then basically are like "normal" people today. And kids that were actually fat maybe 1 out of 100. Were made fun of constantly. Going along with this was kids seem like they never play outside any more! This blows my mind and makes me really sad. I spent most of my childhood just running wild outside with other kids. We HATED being inside and would stay out till just before dark and our parents would yell put the front door to come in. Even if there was nothing to do and you were alone. Kids would just go outside and wander around. Looking at rocks, chasing animals, jumping in puddles, bouncing a ball, riding your bike... Stupid things.
@Deborah Hearne Yeah but you're saying through social media, which aren't going to instill them real world skill sets and experience to become a millionaire. Most 16 year old have an addiction to it and don't use it as a tool for business nor make money off of it, let alone become a millionaire off it. I agree that there needs to be more 16 year old taught responsibilities and useful skills, but it doesn't mean social media does any of that well or efficiently. Nor are there many teenagers capable and responsible enough to use millions of dollars wisely and not just for their own selfish efarious gains. That's why most lottery winners die, bankrupt, or jailed, because they didn't learn all the financial skills and experience to get it in the first place. So point overall is social media is doing more damage than good overall. Maybe you'll see it more clearly over time even though there's plenty of studies on it's effects already.
@Deborah Hearne Most people who make easy money online are shit people that the world doesn’t really need. The world was better when there were computers but no advanced smartphones. It’s only a matter of time before people accept that technology causes cancer and maybe even early blindness.
So Kevin was the only one standing between the app we all loved and the monster it turned into...RIP instagram. I once was obsessed with this app, but not anymore and am so much happier now. I can truly enjoy the experiences life brings and can't imagine I would want to ruin them with filming another story ever again.
Thanks for this! I stopped using fb back like in 2010 and tried to get a family member to stop too but they thought I was being dramatic and argued with me saying, "Oh please, so what fb is the devil now or something?" and I said yeah pretty much. Back then the main reason I left it was because I was a young mom and quickly realized what a time suck it was, I wanted to live and enjoy real life instead. Haven't missed it one bit. Who knew all this would come out about it so many years later.
I left all social medias 1.5 years ago, and it was the best decision in my whole life. The only thing I use are messaging apps and snapchat to message and talk to my friends. Other than that nothing, and my whole life changed. No more stress, comparing ur life to others etc etc.
@Deborah Hearne I use youtube to watch videos. By social media I meant instagram, facebook, twitter etc. Like posting pictures of myself and all. I dont think youtube is a problem, its like saying netflix is as bad as instagram
I left Instagram and Facebook 3 years ago and I've never regretted. It was absolutely one of the best decisions. For talking to my family and friends I use mainly WhatsApp and Viber.
I love how a brand or a product can control the minds of people. And I love how people can get controlled by brand/products. And in the very end, it’s about making money.
It’s all about $ it’s quite sickening actually To think that fucking Kim Kardashian gets million per post it’s disgusting ….it’s all about greed… When does it all stop? Everything will just explode glad I won’t be around …
I stopped using facebook and instagram since 2019 and i can tell you that it feels natural to know abt stuffs going on in my friends and relatives lives through their mouths.
There needs to be much more education on this type of stuff. We have physical and mental health related classes for kids at young ages, and adding this type of content to the curriculum of those classes would be so valuable. At least make them think twice before being sucked in as pre teens.
Love the video and totally agree! I stay off social media and am deeply satisfied by it. In my experience, the best moments are never truly captured by camera anyway, I've always been too busy enjoying them! Everything we see is often forced and/or fake. Live life!
“The best part is when you put the camera down and immerse yourself in the moment.” I love that! Great story and thoughts on an app that has changed the world, literally.
With such a small team, he should of at least have them a few million each. I’ve been off social media for over 7 years and even tho I kinda miss it, I love not knowing everyone’s problems and people being genuinely happy to see and catch up with me in person.
Wow, this was very satisfying to watch. It was insightful and kind of emotional especially given the fact that Kevin just quit this incredible app that he created. Idk why but I feel like one day he'll come back with something even better and it'll end this social monopoly game Facebook is trying is do. From the video it seemed like all he wanted was an app that was genuine and safe place for ppl to just be themselves.
On my Opinion Kevin’s Instagram was exactly that; wholesome and fun. I miss it. Mark’s Instagram is evil. And I hate it, I haven’t deleted it because I’ve had it since 2011-2012
Stop feeling anything for those people. They all come from elites families that’s why they meet other elites and make things happen. It doesn’t happen to normal people. They pretend they were normal and not rich but that’s a lie. They all get help from others because they were part of well off families. They in purpose lie they had nothing to make people inspired and work hard like slave and then gave up when can’t make it. All those billionaires are all chosen one part of the elites.
I'm reminded of two things. 1) There are only two industries that call their customers ‘users’: illegal drugs and software’. 2) f you aren't paying for it, you're the product.
Yup, it's been like two months since I deleted my socials. I'm living my life without having to worry about getting my phone out to get a pic. I'm proving that my real estate career doesn't need social media to grow✨
I was wondering about this. I assumed that nowadays, a lot of business is dependent on social media. I quit FB about six months ago. Thanks for this insight.
I deleted Instagram in the beginning of March 2020, I could see a huge shift even then. Also pondering the concept of posting photos/etc of myself and keeping “my world” up to date on what i was doing just didn’t feel right. Too narcissistic IMHO. Why bother? Because i had been socialized to? Been over 2 years now, feels really good to view the world from my own personal lens than the one the world wanted me to use. To go from being that person who was on their phone every 5 mins to only using my phone to text keep in touch with actual real meaningful relationships, ad and propoganda - free, Is awesome. Use the “scrolling energy” to learn a new skill or learn a trade.
I can't say a single negative thing about this video. Well researched, good graphics, good narration.. As a video maker I am jealous of this standard. :)
True, this raises the bar, which is good for everyone. And it's good for you to know that the technologies are out there for you to do the same, and better. It wasn't long ago that you needed expensive equipment, and a lot of people with different skills, to make high quality content. Same goes for all creative industries, like music production, graphics, and even shooting cinema quality videos using the new iphone (like that Bigelow director did). It's great that technology is making content creation accessible regardless of the creators budget, or who they need to know, because a lot more imaginations will lead to even better content.
@@sphamandlandlovu3554 Thanks guys. And agreed Johnny Anda. The tech is affordable for almost everyone now, so now its just practice, and toning the craft
If you die tonight, do you know where you're going? Did you know that Jesus Christ is THE only way to Heaven and He loves you? Through Him, God offers you a FREE gift - forgiveness. All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways, from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him. Biblical explanation of the Gospel: God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. (Matthew 12:30) ''Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.'' He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteouss, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23) The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23). For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ for He lived a sinless life. None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10). Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life, Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16) We aren’t saved based on our good deeds/works, but only by the grace of God through faith. ''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9) Jesus said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30) just before He died on the cross, which means He paid the fine for our sins (past, present, future) to be forgiven if we repent and trust in Him. ''What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!'' (Romans 6:15) ''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out'' (Acts 3:19) Repentance is a turning away from sin and all evil works, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8). Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin. While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Do not play a hypocrite. ''God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.'' (1 John 1:5-6) If you have repented and have genuine faith in Jesus Christ then you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit and be born-again spiritually. (John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14) You are born again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36) ''You will know them by their fruits'' (Matthew 7) If you have been truly born-again with the Holy Spirit and He has regenerated your heart, you will desire righteousness - to do what is good and righteous in God's eyes, to seek God everyday in His Word and prayer, to strengthen your relationship with God. You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace revealed to us through the death and resurrection of His Son. ''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' (2 Corinthians 5:17) ''For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.'' (Eph 2:10) You will have a testimony - of what your life had been before and how has it changed now when you have surrendered it to Lord Jesus Christ. As a declaration and affirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ, get baptised in water because He commanded us to do so. In John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.'' ''Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'' (Matthew 28:19) ''Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.'' (Acts 2:41) ''And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,'' (1 Peter 3:21) ''We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.'' (Romans 6:4) ''Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.'' (Colossians 2:12) Please get right with God and start your relationship with Jesus Christ today before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left! "But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32) Get to know Christ through God's Word - Bible. At first I recommend reading Gospel of John and book of Romans. God bless you! Jeremiah 29:13 - ''You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.''
Kevin would’ve been better off believing that his app could function on its own, as so many people adored Instagram and now hate the app and have left. A strictly photo sharing app, where you could post stories, videos, and an explore page to discover people you like was perfect. Now it’s absolutely trash just like Facebook.
I felt so liberated when I got rid of Facebook and Instagram. And Twitter I left a few weeks. Also deleted Whatsapp. I feel so much better and wouldn’t go back for anything.
As a non-US senior developer with so many ideas, seeing these stories of Silicon Valley tech companies, I feel that I born into a wrong place. Nobody wanted here to throw money to anyone (not just me). None of these companies seem to be possible without the huge money infusion at the beginning. It's sad.
Exactly! I feel it's unfair that only the ideas presented in silicon valley (specifically on in US) get so much attention. But youve got any good ideas from other parts of the world, especially less developed ones, nobody bats an eye.
Interesting breakdown. I've had Insta since 2012 and I have noticed all the changes with the ads since Facebook took over. As a user of the app it just feels weird that Facebook owns and controls its main page, plus WhatsApp and Instagram. In the past year and a half, and with all the global shifts I mainly only post things related to work and my field and I keep my personal moments more to myself and those I share them with. Social media has also cheapened a lot of elements of life that were private, and special, making a circus of things and reducing the aspects that made them special and unique.
I quit using Instagram around five years ago, which was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Now I know who the real people are around me, and I have more time to do the things I need to do in life rather than endlessly swiping.
I really love how you keep the momentum of your documentary going and build up the story with the imaging and voice over. This whole thing could have been a movie.
@@annam7683 Hi, Anam! How so? Well, unless you keep your Twitter private (which you don't because Twitter is supposed to be open and that's where it's good with interactions for different topics and people), you are in an open platform on twitter. For instance, you write some tweet. Some other person would find it controversial somehow and start labeling you terms. Then would come hoards of troll army. Twitter has a lot of bot accounts. So yeah, you would most likely end up getting trolled and abused by anonymous accounts. Just one reason why it's draining.
Once FB had full control of Insta and changed the algorithms, new followers on my account immediately dropped and likes to each post dropped by about 95%
I swear xD I actually did build up to what I considered a very decent following of 14k with followers who would engage and I would befriend a bunch of them, even leading to one relationship and another friendship that lasts till today. I loved the app because I was able to build a community / connet with one that shared a shared interest. Then the algorythm changed and even friends didn't get my posts showed anymore so now I have also about 5% of the engagement I used to have so it looks like I did just buy a whole bunch of followers lol
Yup, you can't really grow much without having to pay to boost your post which even then is just a waste of money. They really fucked it up big time and I relied on Instagram to grow as an artist. Now that ain't possible 🥴 Ain't possible anywhere else either
Deleting Instagram was the best thing I did for my mental health; it chewed up my time for no gain whatsoever. For YT I can justify it in a manner that I’m consuming semi-informative content, but Instagram is just a waste of time.
"Sometimes the best experiences are the ones where you put the camera down, truly immerse yourself in a moment and realize you never needed a filter after all."
Great video! Although I have relied on both Facebook and Instagram to grow my business, I have noticed more and more adds and "suggested content" over time. As a result I find browsing both apps to be a frustrating experience and a waste of time. However UA-cam is where I continue to find content that is rich in information and inspiration.
Just want to say I grossly appreciate your fresh take on editing and narrating, also IG has become unbearable, political and highly pretentious in the last couple years and this video greatly explains why! Great job!
He messed selling to fb. 😢 I really wish he sold to Twitter instead, mark lied to Kevin. I miss the old Instagram it was such a wholesome site to post pics and no ads and bs. Just ppl sharing photos.
This video made me cry for Kevin. Never been a social media person, so never used Instagram and had Facebook for 3 seconds decades ago, Im still dead against abuse by bullies!!!! But in the end I think Kevin realised the real prize: real life with loved ones. Time to wake up Mark....
Mark is a dictator . One of the elites of America that force cultural and political propaganda . Sick of it really . Just so annoying all my friends are on instagram . Facebook has been completely dropped unless I speak with family

Love the postive ending 😀👍 "the best experiences are when you put the camera down, truly immerse yourself in the moment, and realise that you never needed a filter in the first place" So many people could do with that, the sheer amount of people at concerts videoing the whole thing and also watching it through their phone is mental, they should enjoy the moment, like, who wants to be the cameraman at a party rather than the partygoer, and who's gonna want to watch their shaky, hand held, audience view version anyway when they can watch the concert in all its sound and camera glory on youtube? Jeez, some people just want to prove that they were there at the expense of actually enjoying being there. Btw, very cool video, there was a lot of things that aren't so well known about the story
Your last line about not needing the filter was a perfect ending. FB and their covert manipulations are sickening and disgusting. After FB acquired IG, I felt violated and never looked at or used IG the same way. In fact, the only reasons I really maintain the accounts are for school reunions and archive photo sharing sites, like Detroit back in the day, etc. I also use a container tab in incognito mode on my browser to help keep MZ and his Cult of Peeping Toms a bit of a distance. Great overview of IG!
@@505kylacakes Shit man you just brought back that memory for me too! Yes that was weird he was probably the creator as very early facebook had something similar you had mark zuckerberg as a friend
This is a superior piece of internet journalism, and the production values (in particular, via your editor and motion graphics teams) are literally second to none on youtube.
Hey John! Recently found your channel after watching my favorite channel WhyFiles. And since then I've been making my way through all your vids and liking them. Will share your video about tiktok on fb soon. Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you do. Sometimes we can forget that a well made 15 minute video takes lots of time, research, and hard work to create, edit, and publish. So ig I just wanted to say I recognize your hard work and throughly appreciate all you do here. Thanks for being you! And you sir are the legend! -Holly
HONESTLY, INSTAGRAM RECEIVES MORE POTENTIAL AND INNOVATIONS AND MONEY MAKING PIPES UNDER MARK ZUCKERBERG. I ALSO BELIEVES THAT IF INSTAGRAM WANTS TO FIGHT FACEBOOK AND TWITTER AS THE NEW PLAYER OF SOCIAL MEDIAS, I JUST DOESNT THINK THAT INSTAGRAM WAS ON THE SAME LEVEL LIKE TWITTER AND FACEBOOK. I JUST FELT THAT THE INSTAGRAM IS MAYBE GONNA ENDED UP BEING LIKE SNAPCHAT LEVEL. 1 BILLION IS REALLY A BIG BIG MONEY. BUT I THINK THAT MARK ZUCKERBERG IS GONNA TRY TO CREAT ANOTHER INSTAGRAM OR CHANGES A LOTS TO FACEBOOK SO THAT IT CAN COMPETE WITH INSTAGRAM.
How...it was his company. Not their's. He can make that choice to do so or not. They at least had a job and probably still do and he did throw a party for them. He did do something for them, which you overlooked.
The dude did all the hard work of starting the company and growing it. He took all the risk and worked hard to earn his money. Stop asking for handouts
Immaculate story telling and graphics. I usually click away after a few minutes in to videos like these but I actually watched till the end and enjoyed it. Should consider doing a Netflix documentary people will definitely be glued
I remember first using IG back in 2012 it was pretty cool and wasn’t as saturated with ads and reels and content creators. I just wanted to see my friends that’s it. Not a bunch of other crap. Now I just use FB and IG as information as you can find out more about local businesses beyond a google search. We never should have given up MySpace for FB or any other social media platform. You had music, a background of your choice, and your bio was more than 160 characters. And to a degree it was secure. If you where private no one could see anything. BUT! Tom Anderson was bought and he sold it. The original concept of fb was different and we like it but once we saw what this has evolved to, there basically no need to have a smartphone if you don’t plan to use social media. Ps. This video is a PERFECT description of what exactly happened. Great video.
Before I even watch this video I'm going to say that I am one of the people that never liked Social Media from the beginning. I tried it and I already knew once they started live streaming. It opened the gateway to destruction!
I deem it essential to consecrate heart, soul, mind and body, thoughts, words, desire and actions to God/ I'm retro-'80s in my lifestyle choice/ Consummate professional Attitude and image/ Internet is simply a creative outlet, technological evolution of the typewriter/
I have definitely gone down the rabbit hole...this is all mind blowing. Everything either dies or evolves. Wonder what this will all be like in 100 years! Wish I could be around to see. Will we learn or continue repeat history?? Only time will tell. Take care all!! Great doc btw!!
I haven't been on Facebook in months and as a result I feel free from the burden of comparing myself to others and questioning family dynamics, my career and overall who I am as an individual. Ever since, my drive and motivation has increased. I want to do so much more now and love finding content that feeds me mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.
I started practicing slow quitting Facebook a couple of months ago, without realizing I had done the same with Instagram. I must admit, I do feel less stressed. I knew it was affecting me but didn't realize it until I stopped. Watching other people's attachment while socializing made me realize how I looked. The fact that I couldn't recognize people through their filters was a wake-up call for me. I declared, 'I don't want to look like that! Fake beauty. I haven't deleted the app for several reasons, and family is the number one. I'm much more careful and very selective in what I choose to watch. I am thankful to God for opening my eyes and for my daughter's decision not to post pictures of herself to protect herself.
There are two types of beings; one who is satisfied with themselves and stays real. Then there are the ones who are unsatisfied in their lives and go insta..selfie..crazy!

I deleted my Instagram over a year ago and not only do I feel better about myself I also view my relationships differently. People on Instagram ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND!
I only have to look at fat asses 😅
Some are my friends in real life and started following each other when we got the app...still talk to them like before the app

I can relate as I’ve been around ppl that force to fit in with social media and what’s trending. They are so disconnected with reality and it’s sad
Let me guess, she is American?

If you keep playing, keep thinking you’re gonna hit bigger money, the house is always gonna win. You gotta know when to get the hell off the table and leave the casino with a good amount of money. Otherwise you’ll end up thinking the jackpot is right around the corner, if I just spin it..one more time then I might get someone. It seems that the death of Instagram that is currently happening is due to Mark's ideas. It was interesting to hear that Kevin only wanted the platform to have a small number of ads, and for the platform to remain a photo sharing app. Instagram has too many different things going on now and it's lost it's original identity.
So true
That is like any other application you have on your phone. From MySpace, Facebook, UA-cam, snapchat, Instagram, telegram, and so on. They go the same way. You think you will have a team of 10 ppl making sure the application you use everyday, won't get paid... they have to make money. They make all these free app use in beginning to lure ppl in (just like lots of Instagram accounts, they are legit content until they get a huge fan base then they start posting random stuff because they get paid for it).. just like youtube, back in the day youtube had 0 advertisements (around 2008).... if you dont pay for the product, you are the product.
They tryna become tiktok like stick to one thing . I feel like soon insta is gonna die.
Insta is also going more video based
Mark is a man with no soul or moral compass. Instagram was always a bad idea. It’s turned an entire generation into mindless zombies willing to do anything for a few likes from total strangers. I like the quote at the very end. The best moments in life are when you put the fucking camera down and just enjoy yourself.
"The photo was becoming more important than the event itself." The theory behind social media, yes.

🥺😂so true

Social media has nothing to do with it. You are responsible for your own happiness. Why is so important to you what other people are doing? Why do you need to be a parrot?

@Deborah Hearne yeah, cause the world needs more 16 year old millionaires...what a horrible place before they existed lol
Nor are there many teenagers capable and responsible enough to use millions of dollars wisely and not just for their own selfish
efarious gains.
The world was a little bit better
So Kevin was the only one standing between the app we all loved and the monster it turned into...RIP instagram. I once was obsessed with this app, but not anymore and am so much happier now. I can truly enjoy the experiences life brings and can't imagine I would want to ruin them with filming another story ever again.

Hello Ayna
Fantastic! it's amazing when you quit these apps you feel freer!

I love how a brand or a product can control the minds of people. And I love how people can get controlled by brand/products. And in the very end, it’s about making money.
It's when all the celebrities started opening accounts and masses following and then snotty rich kids! Its all about promotion and $$
It’s all about $ it’s quite sickening actually
To think that fucking Kim Kardashian gets million per post it’s disgusting ….it’s all about greed… When does it all stop? Everything will just explode glad I won’t be around …

I deleted my instagram over a year, i cannot put into words how much my mental health has improved since
I stopped using facebook and instagram since 2019 and i can tell you that it feels natural to know abt stuffs going on in my friends and relatives lives through their mouths.
The photo was becoming more important than the experience itself. How true, how sad
Technology has become more important than life itself. Killing us from the inside out.
Instagram is a cesspool.
So true
There needs to be much more education on this type of stuff. We have physical and mental health related classes for kids at young ages, and adding this type of content to the curriculum of those classes would be so valuable. At least make them think twice before being sucked in as pre teens.
Instagram's user base is shrinking! you forgot to mention the downfall of Instagram after FB made all those horrible changes to the app
The last statement is GOLD..."...and realize, you never needed a filter after all." Beautiful.
Love the video and totally agree! I stay off social media and am deeply satisfied by it. In my experience, the best moments are never truly captured by camera anyway, I've always been too busy enjoying them! Everything we see is often forced and/or fake. Live life!
The effort you and your team put into these movies is incredible. Thanks for making such high-quality material for us to enjoy.

You're life must be boring AF

Shout out to you for your honesty and soncerity, wishing you well in the future.
All you need to do is repent, turn away from your sins and evil ways,
from now on put your faith completely in Jesus Christ and be obedient to Him.
Biblical explanation of the Gospel:
God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why
we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go
there. (Matthew 12:30) ''Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not
gather with me scatters.'' He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteouss, but
rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). God gave us free will and since Adam
sinned in the garden, sin is the nature of our flesh and we ALL have sinned. (Romans 3:23)
The law demands death to those who sin (Romans 6:23).
For someone to be justified before holy God they have to be sinless, that's why everyone need Jesus Christ
for He lived a sinless life.
None of us are good in God’s eyes, because for God good means moral perfection. We all
have broken God’s commandments, we all have sinned in our lives so none of us
are good. ‘’For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is
guilty of breaking all of it.’’ (James 2:10).
Good News is that Jesus Christ lived a perfect, holy, sinless life, Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
He was buried and He was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.’’ (John 3:16)
We aren’t saved based on our good deeds/works, but only by the grace of God through faith.
''For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God -
not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Jesus said ‘’it is finished’’ (John 19:30) just before He died on the cross, which means He paid the fine for our sins
(past, present, future) to be forgiven if we repent and trust in Him.
''What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!'' (Romans 6:15)
''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out'' (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is a turning away from sin and all evil works, and it always results in changed behavior (Luke 3:8).
Biblically, a person who repents does not continue willfully in sin.
While sorrow from sin is not equivalent to repentance, it is certainly an element of scriptural repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10).
Do not play a hypocrite. ''God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all.
If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.'' (1 John 1:5-6)
If you have repented and have genuine faith in Jesus Christ then you will receive the gift of Holy Spirit and be born-again spiritually.
(John 3:3) Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance
until the redemption of those who are God’s possession - to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13-14)
You are born again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
''You will know them by their fruits'' (Matthew 7)
If you have been truly born-again with the Holy Spirit and He has regenerated your heart, you will desire righteousness -
to do what is good and righteous in God's eyes, to seek God everyday in His Word and prayer, to strengthen your relationship with God.
You will no longer desire to willfully continue living in sin but will want to obey God out of your love for Him because of His amazing grace
revealed to us through the death and resurrection of His Son.
''Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.'' (2 Corinthians 5:17)
''For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.'' (Eph 2:10)
You will have a testimony - of what your life had been before and how has it changed now when you have surrendered it to Lord Jesus Christ.
As a declaration and affirmation of your faith in Jesus Christ, get baptised in water because He commanded us to do so.
In John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.''
''Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'' (Matthew 28:19)
''Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.'' (Acts 2:41)
''And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also - not the removal of dirt from the body,
but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,'' (1 Peter 3:21)
''We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that,
just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.'' (Romans 6:4)
''Having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God,
who raised him from the dead.'' (Colossians 2:12)
Please get right with God and start your relationship with Jesus Christ today before it’s too late, because there’s not much time left!
"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.’’ (Mark 13:32)
Get to know Christ through God's Word - Bible.

FB owns Instagram too so makes sense. You'd think Mark would be happy with his hundred billion dollars that he could stop ada altogether
Yup, he let Facebook seduce him with flippity floppity "reputation" and everything went to shit.
I felt so liberated when I got rid of Facebook and Instagram. And Twitter I left a few weeks. Also deleted Whatsapp. I feel so much better and wouldn’t go back for anything.

Why WhatsApp?
Recently deleted Instagram on my phone. I’m only on Twitter. Being on Instagram feels so damn draining.. I look at everything like it’s fake.

@@advancekashmir9846 how so? I've never used twitter...
Once FB had full control of Insta and changed the algorithms, new followers on my account immediately dropped and likes to each post dropped by about 95%
yeah its so hard to grow nowadays
I swear xD I actually did build up to what I considered a very decent following of 14k with followers who would engage and I would befriend a bunch of them, even leading to one relationship and another friendship that lasts till today. I loved the app because I was able to build a community / connet with one that shared a shared interest. Then the algorythm changed and even friends didn't get my posts showed anymore so now I have also about 5% of the engagement I used to have so it looks like I did just buy a whole bunch of followers lol
Agree
Nowadays it's hard for content creator to grow....

Yup, you can't really grow much without having to pay to boost your post which even then is just a waste of money. They really fucked it up big time and I relied on Instagram to grow as an artist. Now that ain't possible 🥴
Ain't possible anywhere else either

So many people could do with that, the sheer amount of people at concerts videoing the whole thing and also watching it through their phone is mental, they should enjoy the moment, like, who wants to be the cameraman at a party rather than the partygoer, and who's gonna want to watch their shaky, hand held, audience view version anyway when they can watch the concert in all its sound and camera glory on youtube? Jeez, some people just want to prove that they were there at the expense of actually enjoying being there.

Can you do a video about the metaverse?
I can agree that instagram does mess with your mental health.
There are two types of beings; one who is satisfied with themselves and stays real. Then there are the ones who are unsatisfied in their lives and go insta..selfie..crazy!
