As creators we must always remember that cams and mics are tools. The DJI is more than capable to amass millions and millions of viewers. I was contemplating the same, using just a DJI Action 4. I have a Pocket 2 but don't like the form factor when on the move. So you're spot on. I did end up getting a heavily discounted ZV1 to get a better FOV for face distortion (big head kinda guy). I will use a lavalier to have consistent audio. As a side note I think if you fix the exposure according to your lights you can avoid the exposure hunting which seems to have happened in this video. This will improve the footage even more (take it with a grain of salt, I am still learning). The DJI looks great though.
Yes! My question posted to your previous video asking about your settings and distance to lens is certainly addressed here and in your written comments, thank you. My system is set up on my motorized desk via a NEEWER Table Camera Mount Stand with Flexible Arm $46.99 chosen because I need/want the heavier desk clamp only that model has. It comes with a 90° adjustable horizontal arm to which I mount the Action 4 camera, the Rode Video MIc GO II, a Zoom F3, and a SmallRig fitting for my Android Smartphone to redundantly record video. The top of the Neweer vertical riser comes with a ball joint where I attached a Pictron VIJIM LS06 Flexible (means jointed, not flex) arm $20.76 that holds the Bumblebee II Mic above my head. The beauty in this system is there are no tripods and everything moves up and down together when I raise or lower the desk for different talking head positions. Fittings for connections to this system include the SmallRig Magnetic Adapter Mount for the Action 4-3-2 cameras. That adapter is convertible from the Action4/GoPro mount to a 1/4x20 mount- Wayne, I'm betting you have a few of these gems!. I also have a SmallRig Camera Cage for DJI Action 4 Compatible for DJI Mic, Action 3-4119, $39.90, chosen because of a 1/4x20 mount on 3 sides, cold shoe on 1 side, built-in magnetic plate, and slider lock switch on the swing door for loading the camera. Sometimes I use the cage, sometimes I use the SmallRig Magnetic Adapter Mount, usually it is just a knee-jerk decision like if I last used the camera on a selfie stick or tripod, etc.. To hold a GVM 1000D RGB 15" Diag LED to the Neweer riser extendable above the Bumblebee II Mic is a 2nd Pictron VIJIM LS06 Flexible (jointed, not flex) arm $20.76 connected via an Impact 6" Extension Arm with Spigot #BHE-106 $19 (on sale) on an Impact Super Clamp with Ratchet Handle #CC-106R $20 (on sale). The light is the heaviest item and the HD desk clamp on the Neweer riser and the Impact HD options are what make it secure. I would not trust it on spring-loaded arms and the cheap desk clamps on most desk stands. I have been experimenting with distance between camera & face, FOV of Ultra Wide, Wide, or Standard (Dewarp), and the many Settings choices. Color setting of Normal rather than D-Log M is my preference as I think it has great colors without me ruining it trying to do a color grade in DaVinci Resolve. Sometimes a little increase in saturation in post is helpful. It is reported that the DJI Log and DaVinci Resolve are not the most compatible. Wayne, I think your approach to using Auto for most Action 4 settings is entirely a reasonable way to go as the Action 4 is great in Automatic, plus your videos are proof it works. While the colors are great, some pro users believe the exposure of the Action 4 is slightly overexposed and some believe it to be slightly underexposed. A menu setting of EV negative 0.3 or positive 0.3 seems to fix it one way or the other. What are you noticing? I think the various opinions on this depend on the shooting light and action type, EG, snow-skiing in bright sunlight at 120 FPS vs vlogging in the shade at 30 FPS, just IMHO. The results of my experimentation are inconclusive. I'm too new to videography to compare my results knowledgeably and make a choice. 🤣 So, I'm going to pick something and stick with it until I find reason to change it. The Action 4 is so good for all shooting purposes, well, not Hollywood and not wall-hangers, it probably doesn't much matter how you set it up. Your videos help me make choices and improve my videos. I appreciate what you do.
This is exactly why I'm going for an action cam for filming my job - I haven't got time to mess around with a big camera when I'm working in confined spaces or people's homes, most people would be super annoyed that I'm spending too much time filming than doing my job. I have plumped for the insta360 ace pro because of the screen and the ability to take wide angle photos. I'm looking forward to working with it as I couldn't take my big camera up ladders or out in the rain to inspect jobs. Lovely vid, I really like the sound quality too - you have a very silky voice!! I have a lisp sooooo. yeah not looking forward to hearing my own voice!! 😂
Good that you mentioned the USB mic issue. It's a serious problem. Ironically, I've found the in-built mic to be the best I´ve come across on any camera. So, if I'm using the Action 4 at close range without wind noise, it's great. But if I need to use another mic (I prefer Rode), then the Action 4 is a huge liability as the sound recording fails so many times.
My action 3 has left me disappointed, so much video noise in all but bright light. The field is so distorted, even on dewarp. Colors, skin-tones, are not the quality i need. The a7iii gives a beautiful image, I like the dynamic focusing. It's so heavy that it precludes taking it with me. The preamp isn't perfect. I have a pocket 3 on order. Now, you have me considering the Action 4 in addition. This video is very well done.
I’m looking forward to start content creating, from the start I am looking forward to an action camera because of the versatility of indoor and outdoor videoing and durability of the camera. The video quality has come a long way and these expensive dslr cameras are slowly going to start dropping in price value because of technology, they will still have place in the market but the new generation of young adults coming in are not going to get involved in it, the same way streaming destroyed the physical video store, it’s coming to an end of an age and entering in a new era.
Well your audio IMMEDIATELY stands out as Very Proffessional sounds rich on TV or headphones...and I think the Image can be ok but if the sound is bad its all bad.
Why are you 'whispering'? 😂 Great content though, I talk about and compare OA3 against the GoPros and my OA3, by far, crushes the GPs in the mic/audio department every single time!
if you record based on the sound of the scene, even an out of focus shot can be interesting. the action 4 is not in focus all the time, it's never in focus. autofocus is a must-have, even if not sony level stuff
Home run vid 👍 😀 really got the comment natives restless with this one 🤣 hilarious! Bickering over stab & brands 😂😂🤣🤣 🤦♂️ absolutely nothing to do with vid subject 🤔 lmao ✌️🤙
im sorry but you talk about a lot of things but the most important thing is image stabilization on an action cam. even rocksteady+ doesnt come close to a gopro. dji action 4 is like being on a boat at sea. it makes me seasick
IRRELEVANT as a youtube studio camera. Secondly, I have both. I use mine solely in the field filming only videos, really don't use as still camera. The point of that is video stabilization. I would like to see you show a side by side that the gopro is so much better... or post an existing youtube... I haven't seen any.
@@graphguy lol i have both cameras too. if you really have both too then of course you notice it right away that dji sucks with image stabilization. not with straight shots, but if you walk and tilt or pan the camera its horrible.
@kllaskas810 lol what a gopro fanboy. I do have both gopro and dji. Dji do much better than my gopro 11. I put on my motorcycle bar. The only thing i like from gopro is only the color tone. Other than that dji ftw
@@aryodito7843 yes of course im a fan of the best action cam. gopro so much better dynamic range also in flat log mode. thats all important things for me. but if youre an amateur you dont see those things, but i dont blame you.
It’s not about the camera. Videos can be made using cheap gear. It’s about story, it’s about you. It amazes me that all these UA-cam channels focus on acquiring expensive gear. Concentrate on saying something and as long as we can hear it well and show what you are talking about (and 1080p is adequate to see video), you might have something. Stop it with the specs. No one cares.
This what I was looking for. I bought the Action 4 to do UA-cam videos. Can you talk a bit about lighting for this camera?

I'm still on the action 3 and indeed with an usb-c mic. My use case is vlogs on the golf course added with the best music style there is 🤘🏻Metal🤘🏻.

I think you'd like the zv-1f too. I get better audio with it than anything. But I have no idea what I'm doing lol. Love your channel.

Hey Wayne. I love the Action 4 almost as much as I love your videos. What mic are you using with it? Is it the Videomic NTG?
Yes it is. He mentions that in the video previous to this or the one before (I think)

Would this be good for Overhead Top-down videos for youtube?
can you please show us your set up for action & mic ? are you using any rig to keep them attached .. your image looks great tbh
I actually made a video on this set up here ua-cam.com/video/A2KHJb7khhE/v-deo.html

I mean you only have 3000 subscribers… so investing in a camera wouldn’t be very smart !
He got 4000 now... what's your point?🙃
@@frederickr7938 point is you can buy a camera for UA-cam when you have like 20,000 until then just use your phone lol
