I was at Sebring in '76, got a picture of the JG Corvette blasting by someplace. Unfortunately at that time I was a Porsche fan, I wish I had been a little more into the Corvette scene now and could appreciate fully what Greenwood accomplished.
im so glad i came across this channel being a vette(s) all these years. How in the heck does it only have 12k subs? Going to my forums with a link to this channel. Great video, great host, GreenWood(s) were amazing. When the 92 vette came out , i did the "dream and drive" as a driver/teacher for Dick Guldstrand and i remember seeing , in my vette club two corvettes with the Greenwood wide bodies on them. Those were the days.
I stood a few feet from John Greenwood and his crew while they prepped his Vette for the race at Laguna Seca in 76. You could get close to the cars in the paddock just stay out of the way. Car was up on jacks, the wheels and hood were off, and I thoroughly examined that Vette for ideas for my C3 Vette. The Greenwood Corvettes were the ultimate evolution of the C3 race car.
I bear the Greenwood name, so when I seen the Hotwheels "76' Greeenwood Corvette" I thought, that's pretty cool car, I wonder if that was a real car? Which has brought me to this fascinating piece of racing history.
@@redtesta I don't remember that name, but let me know what races he entered and what he drove and I look through my records. I was one of the early IMSA drivers-team owners, '70s era. I do remember vividly what it was like when John's monster Corvette thundered by my RSR on the straights. It felt like my car was going to shake apart. Those V8s were great.
@@Cmoredebris yes, john (RIP) was a motorhead and drove as well. He dominated the "aftermarket" modifications during the 80's and 90's into into early 2000's before he passed to early. He was always at the top of Motor Trend , Car & Driver comparison's they would do with modified sports cars. He was big in 1/4 mile racing for sure. I can honestly say Lingenfelter has not been the same since he has left. I mostly hear about his cousin Ken, who took over lingenfelter performance. You never hear about John when they talk about lingenfelter which is a damn shame. Ken did nothing but bring in money and take over the company after john left . Ken is known for having a massive car collection. The Lingenfelter backbone john created .
Me too! I raced with John at Watkins Glen when I was in B Production (Owens Corning too), and again in IMSA GTO at Charlotte and Daytona. I was in awe of those cars.

I saw most if not all of the Greenwood Corvettes in the museum at Sebring a few years ago as a tribute to John. Awesome machines!
