I watched a video showing a light gun working with Duck Hunt on an LCD, but it was some third party clone of the nes zapper that didn't have the same light filter in the sensor as the official one, so yeah they can work although I have no idea about this one.
Yeah, light guns only work on CRTs, the gun needs to read where the scan line is for positioning. LCDs can't do that, because they don't scan the whole screen 60 times a second, they update what and where nessesary when nessesary.
@@mattsmedley.onehandedgamin9029 i think your right cause most of these guns work only on crts because they actuallly look where you aim by scanning the monitors delay (if you watch an crt in slow motion you will understand how this works : ua-cam.com/video/3BJU2drrtCM/v-deo.html ) and also the strechting is gone on an 4:3 screen because these games are made for this format. only a few games where ahead of its time and supported 16:9 natively in the menues.

People already said the gun needs a CRT to work, which is right, but also you can eliminate all your input lag with one too. Your HDTV is creating the latency trying to scale the low resolution signal, which is really common actually
The "Gun" seems to work from my perspective as it's not compatible with newest technology of televisions. It supposed to work on the old televisions, the ones that are big and heavy (CRT TV), The moment you pull the trigger a black screen appear for 1 frame, while the black picture frame appears, a white square appears aswell and if the sensor from the gun picks that square, it registers it as a hit. So basically the Gun's sensor can't even see the LED light no matter how bright it is. It's only designed for CRT TV's.
It has 20 games what they did is repleted the same games over and over again until it said 9999999 And The resolution is horrible you can get a Nes Gameboy knockoff like me It's The best
That "half a second delayed response" you experienced was not the fault of the video game console or the controller. It was due to the TV you were using. Modern flat screen HDTVs are notorious for having display lag. Modern HDTVs have to process the video signal, resulting in a slight delay between the time the video signal is sent to the TV to the time the TV displays it on the screen. That's why there was that slight delay from the time you pressed the buttons on the controller to the time you saw the actions happen on the screen. The display lag is also the reason why the light gun wouldn't work properly. The way Duck Hunt works, when you fire the light gun, the screen goes black for about a half a second and a white square appears where the duck would be. If the light gun's sensor detects that white square, it sends a signal to the game and that's how the game is able to tell if you shot a duck. When you were playing, the light gun was firing, but it wasn't detecting the white square because of the slight delay between the time you pressed the trigger button to the time the white square appeared on the screen. So the game kept thinking you were missing the ducks. You see, those old Nintendo light gun games were designed to work with CRT (cathode-ray tube) TVs. CRT TVs have virtually no display lag. If you were to connect this console to a CRT TV, the light gun would work just fine.
Light guns do work on LCDs; the issue is that the games were so timed to work on a CRT, and since LCDs have to stuff what it picks up through a framebuffer, that adds to the latency. Modifying the game to account for modern displays should do the trick.
TOTALLY going on alibaba now and asking EVERY retailer for a "sample" I'm sure after my 50 or so "sample" handheld emulation game devices arrive from all the retailers, I will hopefully have 2 or 3 decent ones I will keep. ;)
Im guessing you are mounting your camera on the table or you have a very unstable floor. Id recommend fixing that as the image was jumping around. Good professional video though.
Just a little clarification, that on the console is a 60-pin connector for Famicom games (the japanese, short cartridges) so the 72 pin games of the NES will not fit in there. I have the same console, just a ps2 slim model.. But it's absolutely the same one.
It's amazing that they can produce it for $5. Okay, so it might be cheap plastic etc., but for $5! Would probably be worth it just for the case if it's possible for fit a Raspberry Pi in.
I'm sure someone said it already but if your using it on a HD tv it won't work... Light gun games only work on CRT TVs but even with that said im sure this gun won't work there either but it's worth a try!
A lot of the replies on the gun are incorrect. Light pens and the nes guns do not work the same way. It's true a light pen needs a scan line thus only work with old school CRTs. But the nes Gun is in fact a camera looking for a white square. When you pull the trigger the entire screen blanks except for where the birds are. If the camera sees white then you must be pointing it at where a bird is and thus it's a hit. Quite a simple system - much simpler than a light pen. You can actually see the screen blanking in your video. The reason it may not work is the blank may be too fast for the cpu to read whether there's a white square there. It may work with other Tvs though. The TV being a CRT is not of importance. Cheers for the video.
Of course the manual has Spanish. Those things are ubiquitous in flea markets in the US and Mexico. I bought one from a vendor at Trader's Village in Arlington Texas 15 years ago. It had the same exact light gun but the "system" was an awkward N64 controller clone with that same Famicom slot on the bottom and like 100k copies of the same 40 or so bootleg ROMs.
