The symbolisms I noticed in this episode:
- The screen on Ernst's tablet switches from the files showing the profiles of each operator from Nordlicht to the flag of the Federacy as a Screen saver. This highlights Ernst's pure intentions of protecting his ideals. The people once discriminated by the Empire are now under the protection of Ernst's ideal nation.
- The lights flickering on as soon as Ernst was about to say "I'll destroy this world" was accommodated by a sound akin to that of a nuclear detonation which adds up to how serious Ernst is. (If he can't get his ideal world, he'll burn it to the ground.)
- The Gates closing just before that scene is happening at the same time as Ernst is telling the 5 to come back at all cost signifying the point of no return.
- The Federacy flag blowing to the direction of the battle (West/Left) which is used in a lot of other anime is a directional framing that is used to highlight heroic acts.
That final shot of Shin smiling as a million dead voices resounded in his head...
That's a horrifying image to ever even imagine yourselves in.
34:01 Spot On analysis. He really means to sacrifice humanity to legion if humanity is indeed not worth saving.
Congratulations on the 7K!!
I think it is not fair to blame the federacy. I can totally understand them. First of all, as you said, the 86 chose to return to the battlefield. Secondly, 86 were always pushing their care and goodwill aside cos they didn't want to be pitied. They care too much about their pride as an 86. Basically, the result of them being ostracised by fellow soldiers is all on them. Eugene was the only one to approach them simply cos he knew Shin from before. He knew that Shin isn't inhuman like he seems to be, but the other soldiers don't. 86 never gave them an opportunity to get to know them.
And when it comes to the suicide mission, you must admit that realisticaly speaking they are federations' best bet, whether we like it or not. They are in a 'do or die' situation where they either succeed together or perish together. This suicide mission has nothing in common with the one republic sent them on. The 86 are left with the most dangerous and crucial task, yes, but it does not mean that the federation will just be sitting back and enjoying the show. their soldiers will go on the offensive as well and will be dying as well.
I don't understand why people are so offended by the fererations actions. It is not the federation that is cruil, it is the whole situation there are in that is cruil.
30:25 SO damn true, and I'm glad that you've caught on to that!
The plane kinda reminded me of a beefier sr 71 blackbird
Regarding what the Ernst (the president) said, this is my personal interpretation. Remember how we learned he lost his own children in the past and how he is an extreme idealist. He once said that if humanity could not even adhere to these ideals then humanity is better off dead, I think this might be a continuation of his characterization in this regard. He's already lost so much, and if these kids die to him he will think humanity will never reach that ideal. Thus --> no point in letting humanity live.
34:01 Spot on! I'd hug you if I could, right now!
Ernst seems to say that by destroying the world, he will let the legion destroy them all because the federacy is one of the super country if not, the strongest. The blue light in the bg signifies the legion when said that.
The plane is based in a B2 bomber mixed with a C-17 globemaster for the cargo part [both of which are real life planes from the military]
Just asking, will you do a season review/tier list when the season ends for *86* ?
About the plane that Isaiah mentioned... I think he meant "Blackbird".
7KKKK!!!!!
Remember unspoiled anime onlys, BLUE means Legion in this story, Lena has been seen in blue from time to time in this cour, add that ominous clip at the end of the intro where she turns around with her covered face, let the pieces click xD
