To answer some of your questions, the ANG flies just about every platform the USAF does. F-15,F-16,F-22 and F-35s provide most of the Fighters for CONUS Air Defense. Tankers and Transport assets are also assigned to Air Guard Units. Air Guard Units often times have more experienced Pilots and Airmen. Also they are funded by the States and typically will have served in a particular Unit for a long time. This was true of the US Navy and Marine Reserve Squadrons as well before Base Closing and Realignment Commission 2005 BRAC 2005 retired over 500 F-16,F-15 and A-10s in addition to other platforms. Some Guard Units solely train for Air Defense while others like the 177th Fighter Wing are General Purpose Units. Langley AFB also hosts Detachment Units for Air Sovereignty Alert Duty on a Rotational basis. When the Pope visited Philadelphia, the Air Guard was supported by F-15Es and F-22s from the Active Duty Air Force and various Tanker and AWACS assets. This is common during special events in Philadelphia,Baltimore, DC, New York etc.
Dont think so. They need to pass the Atlantic with full of US and British Submarines waiting there, staying undetected. No chance. As soon as they leave All NATO countries especially the US going to track them and they will also send to intercept them with their own CSGs. When they get there, there will be full readiness with multiple Carrier Strike Groups already ready to defend + remember that Submarines. They are eveywhere in the Atlantic, undetected. There is no way the Atlantic Ocean does not have at least 3 submarines already patrolling that area even now, they are there now. How I know? I have a strong feeling there are many submarines right now. At least 3 patrolling mainly because of the Nuclear Deterrence. If you google Nuclear Deterrence you will find out that there is already 1 patrolling somewhere(Probably in the Atlantic Ocean) full readiness 24/7 every day + it could be more not just one. Remember Britain have its own Nuclear Deterrence, France and the US also have. What are the chances there is already 1 or maybe 2 in the Atlantic? There is a chance. So lets say there is already 2 + if ever Russia going to leave their coasts with their CSG US going to track them down. That means if they go to the Atlantic it will be full with US, British, France submarines. Trust me.
I was just heading down here to say basically the same thing, only I was going to say that the smoke emanating from the stacks of the fleet of tug boats would be visible from space.
And without an air craft carrier....big bodies of water all surround the US making it pretty tough for them to sail this way and would be destroyed by the Americans subs and Airforce....they would be picked off left and right on the approach.

Theres no information about US air defense on the coast because we generally don’t have SAM sites in our cities outside of DC afaik. The reason for this Being that the US had such good natural barriers that we’d detect anything and have plenty of time to react to any major threat.
As I watch this wargame, there are three aerial refuelers airborne about 60nm southeast of New York City. A KC-135 and two KC-46. This is almost all day every day that tankers are up off the east coast. Just FYI.

@robk1602 they don't need to hide that they are flying them over here. Just what their intentions are. In fact if they reported to the press that they were doing a tour of them to their allies in Cuba and Venezuela or simply started doing regular long distance sorties over the mid-atlantic on a regular basis, they might very easily be able to turn and do this. Especially since the key aircraft is 1 TU-160 in this scenario.
If you really want to simulate this attack you would attack Norfolk Virginia which houses the world's largest naval base along with Langley AFB and Fort Eustis.
Norfolk would have been even harder and less likely to attack. I looked at it before deciding Boston. There would be additional aircraft joining if Norfolk was picked, including the Naval Air Station nearby. I quite literally picked the closest location on the east coast they could possibly reach that would be a Doolittle raid style attack. More for the psychological effect.
To be fair US lost more money through this attack and almost all of the damage was done via only 24 MiG-29s compared to almost 100 American planes from every direction. I'd say Russia won the battle with how they did more damage compared to how much they used to make the attack happen.

i used to live in virginia near the NAS Oceana navy base and i would love to see some type of war games involving that base. By looking online there seems so be about 250 F/A-18 super hornets and i was lucky enough to get a tour of the base and hangers from my friend an F-18 pilot. Also with the navy ships stationed in that area and the Langley air force have with 5th gen, it would be cool to see THE BLOB of F/A-18s all scrambled.
@Cap Naval Station New York has guided missile cruisers and in Norfolk Va you have the home fleet too. Meaning as soon as the Russians started moving to the east coast they would all be in a picket. That is the only thing you missed on this but it is a big one.
There was a huge fight with the public, here in Vermont to host the new F-35's. I'm glad the government and the Base pulled "security" card in the end, and we got our planes!

The Airport is not a pure Air Force base but rather a small International Airport right in the middle of Vermont's most populated area. Most Vermonters supported the F35s. There was a very loud vocal minority that didn't want them.

Cap TU95 can be hunted like Red October due to a frequency generated by the counter rotating supersonic roto blades. This soundwave resonates in the North Atlantic Ocean and can be detected in New York City . Tom Clancy was actually supersized by this and not likely molded in-game .
I'd love to see a followup with the US Atlantic fleet chasing the Russian Carrier Group. It would make a interesting battle with the strong air defenses of the Russians but with now only 4 MiG-29s. You could even throw in some B-1s or B-52s for even more anti-ship missiles.
@@williamfoote2888 LOL it would last 3-5 minutes. Our fast attack subs would launch a few spreads of our mark 48's from about 5 miles out - the Virginia and Seawolf classes hold 50-65 torps/missiles EACH. A single torp will take out almost anything because they are "back breakers" they come up under the ship and explode and even if you need 3 for each ship they are so quiet that a ship moving at speed wont hear them let alone the subs. The Russian subs we trailed and recorded during my time in were horribly loud, since they have shit maintenance the only dangerous ones were the new boats and the diesel electrics at least during my time in. Russians did have the better offensive weapons tho.
First off, I LOVED THIS SIM!!! I live in Norfolk Virginia. Home to the largest navy base in the world, but also about 20 minutes from Langley AFB which is involved in this simulation! One thing to note, almost 24/7 F/A-18 super bugs can be heard and seen flying out over the Atlantic for practice/training. I think the main disclaimer is the EXTREME unreliability of the Russian carrier group. I honestly don’t think it could make it over here without breaking down, much less without being noticed and intercepted…
Kind of funny this scenario and what you're describing reminds of the novel "Hunt for Red October" which had huge chunks of the Soviet navy moving full speed to the east coast and the US military scrambled to get fighters and even flattops and ships to get in range. But yes the Soviets couldn't make it to the American shoreline without the US noticing. As a side note I've known many pilots who were full time Air Force who move to National Guard to keep doing some flying.

The National Guard is a part-time force that trains one weekend per month, and one or two weeks per year. They have both air and ground forces. They can be, and were deployed to Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

“One weekend a month one week a year” doesn’t apply to fighter guys in the same way it does to other guard jobs, but generally yeah they’re part time. That said, they go to the same training as active duty, and in fact are mixed into the same classes at UPT as the active duty guys; the only difference is they already know what their assignment will be on graduation. Air Guard pilots are generally considered to be on par with active duty, especially as they tend to actually fly more and have less BS administrative duties.

IDEA : For future naval simulations, to account for submarines (which are not properly modelled in DCS) could you mod the absolute hell out of a surface ship so that it behaves and is interacted with, similar to how a submarine would? E.g mess with detection and engagement ranges, speed, weapons etc so that in terms of numbers it would be similar to a submarine, though obviously the visual model would still be a ship but still... Ygm?
Oh, I forgot about the Virginia's. They'd probably sink that fleet real fast if war came. Of course, then you'd also have to simulate the alpha's defending the fleet.

It's being refitted with new technologies like other US carriers. And yes big ships will catch fire when restoring the same thing happened in US a few months ago a ship under maintenance caught fire. And a British sub on its way to participate in war games caught fire last year and was forced to surface. People are just being dumb about the capabilities of the Russians. If pentagon tells you the Russians are ahead in rocket technology they are. pentagon has even admitted that the Chinese has out pace US in ai technology and programing. US marines use Chinese compact drone's on missions. I mean at this point people start looking really uneducated with these statements.

In Desert Storm the US rolled over them and retook Kuwait in a matter of days. In '03 we were doing thunder runs through Baghdad in a month. Every Ukrainian move is coordinated by NATO based on their satellites and AWACS planes data, which cannot be shot down, because Russia is not in direct war with NATO yet.
As far as an attractive Target that they would actually go after near Boston that would be the Pave Paws installation at Otis Air National Guard base down on Cape Cod Massachusetts. Basically the little arm that stretches out into the ocean off of Massachusetts. I can all but guarantee that that installation is on a first strike package for any kind of an attack whether it be nuclear or conventional due to its capabilities for early warning. I live right next to it and use to work out there lol.

Also, I do not think any target store is worth this many missiles so maybe we let Russia bomb those and save the missiles for real targets like the Alamo or H-E-B!
2:08: You forgot Dover AFB in Delaware. I actually got intercepted by a flight of two F-16s out of there on an interception training exercise. And Warfield ANG base with the 175TFS flying A-10s (which might be able to launch an attack on the Kutznetsov.) 5:24: The US actually uses a type of blimp over the US NE to fill the AWACS roll. JLENSS (Joint Land attack cruise missile Elevated Netted Sensor System) is basically a tethered blimp with a high power radar on it a couple thousand feet up.
@@flashgordon6670 If you look at the continental shelf for that area, it might be tough for a submarine to get close enough. Plus there are Sub bases and surface fleet ports not too far away. Also it wouldn't be as exciting.

Hey Cap, just an FYI, Canadian fighters can be forward deployed to other Canadian bases. So the fighters at Bagotville (pronounced bear got ville) could be forward deployed to either CFB Trenton in Ontario or CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia which would bring the fighters much closer to Boston.
There are F15's on Cape Cod from time to time. as well as the PAVE PAWS for the entire eastern seaboard as far as good targets. it can see from greenland to argentina so good luck getting that close
Biggest problem with this scenario is it's awfully optimistic to assume the Kuznetsov can make it across the Atlantic without a major power-plant breakdown.

The National Guard are reserve branches of the US military, under the nominal command of state governors. They are not a "Home Guard". During peacetime, they train to maintain proficiency. During overseas military ops, NG units are activated and deployed as part of the regular armed forces.
They're basically what the Second Amendment means by "well-regulated militia" - the descendants of the state militias, from back when political thinkers were worried about having a federal military.
"Burlington Air National Guard"... I had to look in on this just to be sure but not even on the Vermont Air National Guard web page is it called the Burlington Air National Guard. Also that was my Dad's last unit before leaving the military as a LtCol in '91. He transferred from the F4 to the F16A with them. He liked the F16A except the part where the control board would short out sometimes when you wanted to use your missiles. He once told me "You can use your control panel, or your missiles but you can't use both". Still have his flight bag with helmet from his days as an F16 pilot. The bag and helmet visor cover even still have the unit patch on them. Also apparently he dropped a meatloaf on Bernie Sanders (then mayor of Burlington, VT) during a unit party while he was there. None of that last sentence is a euphemism, he literally dropped a meatloaf on him at a party.

I know how Kuznetzov could get close. In the film Master and Commander they disguise the HMS Surprise as a whaling ship by making lots of smoke and being slovenly in general. So all Kuznetzov has to do is put up a sign saying she's a whaling ship..... she already does the other stuff 🤔

The F-15 was always used as an interceptor in US NORAD units, replacing the F-106A/B in the late 70's to mid 80's. I served in the 318th FIS at McChord AFB in Tacoma WA which was part of the NORAD 25th Air Division and Northwest Air Defense Sector and worked on F-15A/B in 1988-1990. As the fastest tactical fighter, it was the obvious interceptor not just because of its speed but its long range, whereas the F-16 had a range of 150-250 miles at most.
cap, Westfield AFB is more of a logistic base due to the small size, this base is mostly known for cargo transport. but yes it does have a hand full of f-15. I know this because I sometimes hear and see them flying over my home 10 minutes away from the base. fun fact, this base is not located in Westfield, its located in Chicopee mass.

I get Vermont F-35 flyovers often here in New Hampshire. Often they are headed in the general direction of the coast or returning, but sometimes they are maneuvering in my area. When skies are clear and I can see them, they almost always are traveling from point A to point B. When it is overcast and they can't be seen, is when they are occasionally seeming to be dogfighting above the clouds. Once you learn what that sounds like, you won't ever mistake it for an airliner ascending or descending, nor a big private jet taking off or landing at our airport (which has no commercial flights, but some private jets, including a couple of big ones) a couple of miles away. The duration and variability of the sound while maneuvering is a big clue to run outside and confirm that it's cloudy. They never seem to transmit ADS-B, unlike several other types of military aircraft that often pass over my area, where a decent fraction of the time, at least one of a group will show up at least briefly on adsbexchange.
Love the videos, gang. I was thinking though, is it really feasible to scramble that many fighters in that short a timespan in the event of a "surprise" attack? I mean, there's only 4ish F16's on alert at, say, McGuire AFB in New Jersey (according to Google Maps). While there's no fighters visible at Andrews, there are only 5 open covers where some might be. I guess what I'm getting at is the overwhelming wave put forward to crash against the MiG-29's wouldn't have materialized that quickly.
You're always using naval and air power, but don't forget the subs. I know you just can't simulate them on DCS realisticly. But they could still be a quite a game changer, especially with "Poseidon" torpedoes.
When I was young, I saw f-16s parked at the Westhampton Air National Guard base. I don't know if they deactivated the base or something, but I have definitely seen them there!

That f-15 fighter wing used to be stationed at Otis Air Base on Cape cod, that's where they scrambled some of the fighters for 9/11. Much better location but they pretty much abandon that base nowadays. A better more realistic target would have been the power plant in Plymouth Massachusetts btw.
excellent videos! however, since you're not familiar with all of the U.S. Military bases on the East coast, you could also add: Camp Lejune, Jacksonville, NC (Marine base), Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC (ARMY base and home to some Green Beret's and Rangers), and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. All of these are within 140 miles of the East coast of North Carolina. Plus there is the Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. and Virginia Beach is home to SEAL Team 6

I saw that NORAD included the Canadians for theater defense and noticed their base was far but close enough to be able to possibly assist. If I was adding the F-22s from Langley, I had to add our friends from the North.
The New Hampshire National Guard has the KC 135 and now the KC 46 refueling aircraft. Not that it would be super helpful in this scenario it is definitely a incredible resource and only about 50 miles from Boston
Cap can you do a modern Pearl Harbor but on Norfolk which is basically the naval center for the east coast as well as Langley AFB and Naval Air Station Oceana right next door? Langley AFB also Hosts F15s that are always on alert for operation Nobel Eagle.
Hey Cap.... I know this is a little aged, however, The National Guard is a state militia. All 50 states have a National Guard component, most have both Army and Air. They are deployed at the leisure of the Governor of the state they reside in as an emergency service for natural disasters, civil unrest, and civic projects. They are otherwise known as "Citizen Soldiers" or "Weekend Warriors". However, they are all controlled by the National Guard Bureau located in DC, which works/answers to the Army Reserve Component. They can be "federalized" in the event of war, to which they then become part of the regular Army. They serve/train one weekend a month and two weeks during the summer. During training, they have active-duty trainers bringing them up to current tech and speed with the regular army/air force. They often go out on ADSW (Active Duty/Special Work) with the Regular Army/Air Force for specialized training.

Air National Guard pilots are usually active duty pilots who have retired. Whereas the average pilot in the USAF is a Captain (O-3), the average pilot in the Air National Guard is a Major (O-4). The Air National Guard is governed by the state whereas the USAF is governed by the federal government; however, each Air National Guard Base can be federally activated in times of need. I was and F-111 and F-16 Avionics Systems Specialist in the USAF stationed at Cannon AFB, NM (522nd FS). Later, I joined the California Air National Guard in Fresno, CA (194th FS) as an F-16 Avionics Systems specialist and we were federally activated after the September 11th attacks. I remained federally activated for a year.

Hello Cap, do you ever see a DCS mod of mig 35. Because the mig 35 carries an AESA radar and advanced avionics which is an super upgrade version of mig 29/K version.
Cap, Langley AFB is in Hampton Va. Also, within 40 miles of Hampton area is Norfolk Naval Base, Little Creek Amphib Base and Oceana Naval Base. Hundreds of fighter aircraft including F18 Super Hornet and F35s.

Some Guard Units solely train for Air Defense while others like the 177th Fighter Wing are General Purpose Units. Langley AFB also hosts Detachment Units for Air Sovereignty Alert Duty on a Rotational basis. When the Pope visited Philadelphia, the Air Guard was supported by F-15Es and F-22s from the Active Duty Air Force and various Tanker and AWACS assets. This is common during special events in Philadelphia,Baltimore, DC, New York etc.

Dont think so. They need to pass the Atlantic with full of US and British Submarines waiting there, staying undetected. No chance. As soon as they leave All NATO countries especially the US going to track them and they will also send to intercept them with their own CSGs. When they get there, there will be full readiness with multiple Carrier Strike Groups already ready to defend + remember that Submarines. They are eveywhere in the Atlantic, undetected. There is no way the Atlantic Ocean does not have at least 3 submarines already patrolling that area even now, they are there now. How I know? I have a strong feeling there are many submarines right now. At least 3 patrolling mainly because of the Nuclear Deterrence. If you google Nuclear Deterrence you will find out that there is already 1 patrolling somewhere(Probably in the Atlantic Ocean) full readiness 24/7 every day + it could be more not just one. Remember Britain have its own Nuclear Deterrence, France and the US also have. What are the chances there is already 1 or maybe 2 in the Atlantic? There is a chance. So lets say there is already 2 + if ever Russia going to leave their coasts with their CSG US going to track them down. That means if they go to the Atlantic it will be full with US, British, France submarines. Trust me.
I was just heading down here to say basically the same thing, only I was going to say that the smoke emanating from the stacks of the fleet of tug boats would be visible from space.
And without an air craft carrier....big bodies of water all surround the US making it pretty tough for them to sail this way and would be destroyed by the Americans subs and Airforce....they would be picked off left and right on the approach.

Theres no information about US air defense on the coast because we generally don’t have SAM sites in our cities outside of DC afaik. The reason for this Being that the US had such good natural barriers that we’d detect anything and have plenty of time to react to any major threat.

As I watch this wargame, there are three aerial refuelers airborne about 60nm southeast of New York City. A KC-135 and two KC-46. This is almost all day every day that tankers are up off the east coast. Just FYI.

If you really want to simulate this attack you would attack Norfolk Virginia which houses the world's largest naval base along with Langley AFB and Fort Eustis.
There is so much in that area .NewPort News shipyard is where they build supercarriers .VA,Beach NAS.
Norfolk would have been even harder and less likely to attack. I looked at it before deciding Boston. There would be additional aircraft joining if Norfolk was picked, including the Naval Air Station nearby. I quite literally picked the closest location on the east coast they could possibly reach that would be a Doolittle raid style attack. More for the psychological effect.

The Russian Federation spending $1.1B+ in a failed attempt to take out a single Target location is exactly what I would expect out of a GR video.
To be fair US lost more money through this attack and almost all of the damage was done via only 24 MiG-29s compared to almost 100 American planes from every direction. I'd say Russia won the battle with how they did more damage compared to how much they used to make the attack happen.

Ward Carroll’s channel recently had a guest on that knew the EX fairly well. Fly in, launch all hell then boogie out at Mach 2.49. 29,000lb of thrust per engine, and it’s a responsive 29k.
i used to live in virginia near the NAS Oceana navy base and i would love to see some type of war games involving that base. By looking online there seems so be about 250 F/A-18 super hornets and i was lucky enough to get a tour of the base and hangers from my friend an F-18 pilot. Also with the navy ships stationed in that area and the Langley air force have with 5th gen, it would be cool to see THE BLOB of F/A-18s all scrambled.
@Cap Naval Station New York has guided missile cruisers and in Norfolk Va you have the home fleet too. Meaning as soon as the Russians started moving to the east coast they would all be in a picket. That is the only thing you missed on this but it is a big one.

The Airport is not a pure Air Force base but rather a small International Airport right in the middle of Vermont's most populated area. Most Vermonters supported the F35s. I'd love to see a followup with the US Atlantic fleet chasing the Russian Carrier Group. It would make a interesting battle with the strong air defenses of the Russians but with now only 4 MiG-29s. You could even throw in some B-1s or B-52s for even more anti-ship missiles.

Our fast attack subs would launch a few spreads of our mark 48's from about 5 miles out - the Virginia and Seawolf classes hold 50-65 torps/missiles EACH. A single torp will take out almost anything because they are "back breakers" they come up under the ship and explode and even if you need 3 for each ship they are so quiet that a ship moving at speed wont hear them let alone the subs. The Russian subs we trailed and recorded during my time in were horribly loud, since they have shit maintenance the only dangerous ones were the new boats and the diesel electrics at least during my time in. Russians did have the better offensive weapons tho.
First off, I LOVED THIS SIM!!! I live in Norfolk Virginia. Home to the largest navy base in the world, but also about 20 minutes from Langley AFB which is involved in this simulation! One thing to note, almost 24/7 F/A-18 super bugs can be heard and seen flying out over the Atlantic for practice/training. I think the main disclaimer is the EXTREME unreliability of the Russian carrier group. I honestly don’t think it could make it over here without breaking down, much less without being noticed and intercepted…
Kind of funny this scenario and what you're describing reminds of the novel "Hunt for Red October" which had huge chunks of the Soviet navy moving full speed to the east coast and the US military scrambled to get fighters and even flattops and ships to get in range. But yes the Soviets couldn't make it to the American shoreline without the US noticing.
As a side note I've known many pilots who were full time Air Force who move to National Guard to keep doing some flying.

The National Guard is a part-time force that trains one weekend per month, and one or two weeks per year. They have both air and ground forces. They can be, and were deployed to Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
It's worth noting that while the NG on the ground has a reputation for incompetence, the air national guard is generally very well trained.
@@92HazelMocha There's margin for error in the army - you can screw up marching around without making national headlines. There's a lot less of that in the air.
“One weekend a month one week a year” doesn’t apply to fighter guys in the same way it does to other guard jobs, but generally yeah they’re part time. That said, they go to the same training as active duty, and in fact are mixed into the same classes at UPT as the active duty guys; the only difference is they already know what their assignment will be on graduation. Air Guard pilots are generally considered to be on par with active duty, especially as they tend to actually fly more and have less BS administrative duties.

IDEA :
For future naval simulations, to account for submarines (which are not properly modelled in DCS) could you mod the absolute hell out of a surface ship so that it behaves and is interacted with, similar to how a submarine would? E.g mess with detection and engagement ranges, speed, weapons etc so that in terms of numbers it would be similar to a submarine, though obviously the visual model would still be a ship but still... Ygm?
Oh, I forgot about the Virginia's. They'd probably sink that fleet real fast if war came. Of course, then you'd also have to simulate the alpha's defending the fleet.
Langley is mostly a Research Center . Over the years with residential encroachment jets have to take off as vertical as possible .

It's being refitted with new technologies like other US carriers. And yes big ships will catch fire when restoring the same thing happened in US a few months ago a ship under maintenance caught fire. If pentagon tells you the Russians are ahead in rocket technology they are. pentagon has even admitted that the Chinese has out pace US in ai technology and programing. It was not only US, it was a coalition of 7 nations. And Iraq was on it's own, left by allies.
In Ukraine situation is directly opposite. Russia is doing everything on its own and Ukraine is regulary supplied by all NATO members with a modern tech. It never runs out of equipment.
And the most powerful thing in Ukrainian side is outside intelligence. Every Ukrainian move is coordinated by NATO based on their satellites and AWACS planes data, which cannot be shot down, because Russia is not in direct war with NATO yet.
As far as an attractive Target that they would actually go after near Boston that would be the Pave Paws installation at Otis Air National Guard base down on Cape Cod Massachusetts. Basically the little arm that stretches out into the ocean off of Massachusetts.
I can all but guarantee that that installation is on a first strike package for any kind of an attack whether it be nuclear or conventional due to its capabilities for early warning.

2:08: You forgot Dover AFB in Delaware. I actually got intercepted by a flight of two F-16s out of there on an interception training exercise. And Warfield ANG base with the 175TFS flying A-10s (which might be able to launch an attack on the Kutznetsov.)
5:24: The US actually uses a type of blimp over the US NE to fill the AWACS roll. JLENSS (Joint Land attack cruise missile Elevated Netted Sensor System) is basically a tethered blimp with a high power radar on it a couple thousand feet up.
Nope, we didn't miss either. Dover is home to Air Force Air Lift command and no fighters. The JLENS program was discontinued in 2017.

Hey Cap, just an FYI, Canadian fighters can be forward deployed to other Canadian bases. So the fighters at Bagotville (pronounced bear got ville) could be forward deployed to either CFB Trenton in Ontario or CFB Greenwood in Nova Scotia which would bring the fighters much closer to Boston.
There are F15's on Cape Cod from time to time. as well as the PAVE PAWS for the entire eastern seaboard as far as good targets. it can see from greenland to argentina so good luck getting that close

The National Guard are reserve branches of the US military, under the nominal command of state governors. They are not a "Home Guard". During peacetime, they train to maintain proficiency. During overseas military ops, NG units are activated and deployed as part of the regular armed forces.
They're basically what the Second Amendment means by "well-regulated militia" - the descendants of the state militias, from back when political thinkers were worried about having a federal military.
"Burlington Air National Guard"... I had to look in on this just to be sure but not even on the Vermont Air National Guard web page is it called the Burlington Air National Guard. Also that was my Dad's last unit before leaving the military as a LtCol in '91. He transferred from the F4 to the F16A with them. He liked the F16A except the part where the control board would short out sometimes when you wanted to use your missiles. He once told me "You can use your control panel, or your missiles but you can't use both". Still have his flight bag with helmet from his days as an F16 pilot. The bag and helmet visor cover even still have the unit patch on them.
Also apparently he dropped a meatloaf on Bernie Sanders (then mayor of Burlington, VT) during a unit party while he was there. None of that last sentence is a euphemism, he literally dropped a meatloaf on him at a party.

The F-15 was always used as an interceptor in US NORAD units, replacing the F-106A/B in the late 70's to mid 80's. I served in the 318th FIS at McChord AFB in Tacoma WA which was part of the NORAD 25th Air Division and Northwest Air Defense Sector and worked on F-15A/B in 1988-1990. As the fastest tactical fighter, it was the obvious interceptor not just because of its speed but its long range, whereas the F-16 had a range of 150-250 miles at most.
cap, Westfield AFB is more of a logistic base due to the small size, this base is mostly known for cargo transport. but yes it does have a hand full of f-15. I know this because I sometimes hear and see them flying over my home 10 minutes away from the base. fun fact, this base is not located in Westfield, its located in Chicopee mass.
I believe you mean Westover ARB that hosts the 439th Airlift Wing. Westfield is only home to F-15s of the 131st FS

I get Vermont F-35 flyovers often here in New Hampshire. Often they are headed in the general direction of the coast or returning, but sometimes they are maneuvering in my area. When skies are clear and I can see them, they almost always are traveling from point A to point B. When it is overcast and they can't be seen, is when they are occasionally seeming to be dogfighting above the clouds. Once you learn what that sounds like, you won't ever mistake it for an airliner ascending or descending, nor a big private jet taking off or landing at our airport (which has no commercial flights, but some private jets, including a couple of big ones) a couple of miles away. The duration and variability of the sound while maneuvering is a big clue to run outside and confirm that it's cloudy.
They never seem to transmit ADS-B, unlike several other types of military aircraft that often pass over my area, where a decent fraction of the time, at least one of a group will show up at least briefly on adsbexchange.
Never thought i would see Barnes ANG Base featured in one of these videos lol. They hold a killer Air-Show. Those F-15's are loud.

Love the videos, gang. I was thinking though, is it really feasible to scramble that many fighters in that short a timespan in the event of a "surprise" attack? I mean, there's only 4ish F16's on alert at, say, McGuire AFB in New Jersey (according to Google Maps). While there's no fighters visible at Andrews, there are only 5 open covers where some might be. I guess what I'm getting at is the overwhelming wave put forward to crash against the MiG-29's wouldn't have materialized that quickly.
Look at those brown shelters behind those 5 open white shelters. That's where the Fighters are.
You're always using naval and air power, but don't forget the subs. I know you just can't simulate them on DCS realisticly. But they could still be a quite a game changer, especially with "Poseidon" torpedoes.
When I was young, I saw f-16s parked at the Westhampton Air National Guard base. I don't know if they deactivated the base or something, but I have definitely seen them there!

I can't find any evidence of permanent basing, but apparently it's definitely been the case in the past 🤷♂️
That f-15 fighter wing used to be stationed at Otis Air Base on Cape cod, that's where they scrambled some of the fighters for 9/11. Much better location but they pretty much abandon that base nowadays.
A better more realistic target would have been the power plant in Plymouth Massachusetts btw.

excellent videos! however, since you're not familiar with all of the U.S. Military bases on the East coast, you could also add: Camp Lejune, Jacksonville, NC (Marine base), Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC (ARMY base and home to some Green Beret's and Rangers), and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC. All of these are within 140 miles of the East coast of North Carolina. Plus there is the Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia. and Virginia Beach is home to SEAL Team 6

i mean the aircraft carrier is still being repaired but it went on fire again some weeks ago so no way will they be able to get it working and operational lol
Only the greatest of ships can randomly spontaneously set on fire and the crew just considers it normal.....

I think they would probably have been sent out to escort more AWACs to ensure a second fleet wasn't coming in further north.

I saw that NORAD included the Canadians for theater defense and noticed their base was far but close enough to be able to possibly assist. If I was adding the F-22s from Langley, I had to add our friends from the North.

The New Hampshire National Guard has the KC 135 and now the KC 46 refueling aircraft. Not that it would be super helpful in this scenario it is definitely a incredible resource and only about 50 miles from Boston
Cap can you do a modern Pearl Harbor but on Norfolk which is basically the naval center for the east coast as well as Langley AFB and Naval Air Station Oceana right next door? Langley AFB also Hosts F15s that are always on alert for operation Nobel Eagle.
Hey Cap.... I know this is a little aged, however, The National Guard is a state militia. All 50 states have a National Guard component, most have both Army and Air. They are deployed at the leisure of the Governor of the state they reside in as an emergency service for natural disasters, civil unrest, and civic projects. They are otherwise known as "Citizen Soldiers" or "Weekend Warriors". However, they are all controlled by the National Guard Bureau located in DC, which works/answers to the Army Reserve Component. They can be "federalized" in the event of war, to which they then become part of the regular Army. They serve/train one weekend a month and two weeks during the summer. During training, they have active-duty trainers bringing them up to current tech and speed with the regular army/air force. They often go out on ADSW (Active Duty/Special Work) with the Regular Army/Air Force for specialized training.

I haven't seen this yet but I do have a little knowledge of what early warning systems the US has on the East Coast. This should be interesting.
National Guard units can and do rotate into war zones at times; as do reserve units. There are many active duty veterans in these units as well.

Air National Guard pilots are usually active duty pilots who have retired. Whereas the average pilot in the USAF is a Captain (O-3), the average pilot in the Air National Guard is a Major (O-4). The Air National Guard is governed by the state whereas the USAF is governed by the federal government; however, each Air National Guard Base can be federally activated in times of need. I was and F-111 and F-16 Avionics Systems Specialist in the USAF stationed at Cannon AFB, NM (522nd FS). Later, I joined the California Air National Guard in Fresno, CA (194th FS) as an F-16 Avionics Systems specialist and we were federally activated after the September 11th attacks. I remained federally activated for a year.

Cap, Langley AFB is in Hampton Va. Also, within 40 miles of Hampton area is Norfolk Naval Base, Little Creek Amphib Base and Oceana Naval Base. Hundreds of fighter aircraft including F18 Super Hornet and F35s.
There’s also Otis/joint base cape cod which is an air force base
