I had a 1980s-style dresser that I chose to modify so that I could sell it for a better price. I used ChatGPT to get some design ideas for redesigning the dresser. ChatGPT's primary use is in human-like conversational mimicry, but it can also be used for other purposes. You can get furniture design ideas from it and use them in your work.
If you are unfamiliar with ChatGPT, it is a chatbot introduced by OpenAI in November 2022. OpenAI, a leader in artificial intelligence, has created a program that allows you to input natural-language prompts. ChatGPT provides conversational but rather stilted responses.
The bot remembers the discussion thread and bases its subsequent responses on past inquiries and answers. It obtains its replies from vast amounts of internet-based data.
So, I asked ChatGPT some questions about my dresser design.
▶️The questions that I ask to ChatGPT:
• What style of furniture is popular?
• What color trends are in style?
• Is raw wood furniture is style?
• What is the best way to sell refurbished furniture?
• What is the average selling price for a painted dresser?
ChatGPT gave me very good advice about the questions I asked. ChatGPT told me to change the dresser's colour and style, so I did. The dresser looks a lot better now than it did before.

I like the Lilly Moon color, and I think black hardware was the best choice. AI is handy for some things, but I still trust a human more. 🤣

Yes, she always picks a color that will compliment almost any décor. Except for that pink thing a long while back, LOL. She is very generous and tells exactly which color she uses.

Love how this piece came out. You do incredible work and I haven’t seen a piece that I didn’t like yet. The color was spot on and I like that she went with the darker pulls. Colleen here (even tho my husband's company is listed. Lol) I can see AI value but we i think we still have to do our own research to fine tune their suggestions. I use SW paint alot but would lo love to try some Lily Moon! I've seen their greens and they are to die for! The 3 in 1 would be wonderful to try!

I really enjoy watching you work and how you are always so positive. It was interesting to have Al’s input. I have recently moved into what I hope is my forever home (retired and moved to warmer climate). I have several furnishing pieces that I love, but they do not fit in their new environment. I am hoping that after I watch other furniture refinished I will get enough confidence to redo those pieces so they can live together with me in my new home. Turned out fantastic! I would like to know what you were able to sell for. I have never tried the Lilly Moon paint but would like to try. I will have to take a look at the ChatGPT AI and look to see what others are out there for sure. Seems like it gave you some options to give that bit of inspiration. I know I need that now and again. Lilly Moon paint based in Powell, Tn is really coming on.
Furniture that is sanded back to natural wood and restained or paint washed for an updated look always sells best in my area. So, I know what a let down it is to find a piece is not all wood. I have not used Lily Moon stains yet, but I intend to. All the colors are unique compared to the box store colors you see everyday.

Beautiful job with the white wash and two-tone. Been thinking about doing something similar to a piece and this is a great color. AI- humm - not that impressed. I’m sure you could have figured all that out without AI honestly. But I will have to give it a shot and test it.

I think AI is another tool to use in a furniture flippers armamentarium; however it will not replace that personal touch and vision that we have when a piece “talks to us” on how it wants to be re-imagined. This turned out very classy and you took it out of the eighties and looks on trend now!

Love this. It is so common to push the items you can’t decide on which diection to take, to the back of your work area. The AI seemed to give you the inspiration you needed to move forward with it. I like the choice of the block handles. That’s also a great color choice.

Pretty regularly. I enjoy your videos. But this made me sick to my stomach. I turned to refurbing old furniture as a way to get away from the hustle and bustle of high computer tech. I thought there would be no way for AI to weasel its way into it. It’s wonderful to see the beauty that comes from people and how they manage to recreate, reimagine, and renew. Bringing beauty back to the old. It takes the heart out of it knowing it’s designed by a computer for profit. I hope in the future, people will
label their products ‘designed by AI’ if in fact that is the case.
It also takes so much away from those who have the artistic eye, the vision. Cuz now a computer can give everyone that edge. It’s really sad to see what’s happening in the graphic design community.
