    The best documented hike to Mt. Marcy I've seen in UA-cam. It really gives a good idea of what a first timer, like me, could be up against when climbing Marcy. It also gives some reassurance to some concerns regarding the terrain, etc. Fantastic footage.

    • @RunWithJ
      @RunWithJ  4 роки тому

      Thank you Maria! It was definitely challenging for us first timers especially the last mile but well worth it at the end. We carried about 8 20oz worth of water bottles and just had enough to finish the hike down.

    I went up Marcy with my three grown kids (ages 19-21-24) on August 15th. I made it to the rock outcropping 1/4 mile from the top before I pooped out and decided to enjoy the view from there. But all three of them made it in another 10 minutes of tough scrambling. Incredible hike. Outstanding views...even from where I ended. Anyone who makes it up Marcy deserves a serious pat on the back. Congratulations.

      Thanks Paul! I agree, I see younger kids fly by too without any gear as well. It definitely was a little challenging even for someone that exercises often. Just the pure fatigue factor of being on your foot for more than half the day takes a toll on you. It was worth it for sure.

      @@RunWithJ Update on my last post. I am ELATED to be able to add that just 46 hours ago I returned with my now one-year-older kids (Saturday August 21st) and made it all the way. It took us almost exactly 5 hours from the Loj to the summit, but was worth all the effort, including the pain in my feet as we arrived back at the car. Standing on the summit of Mt. Marcy for the 6th time (my first was with my late father when I was just 9 years old in 1968) was almost as joyful a moment as the day I married their mother and the days each of them were born. God made mountains to strengthen our spirits by challenging us to push ourselves to the limits of our being, both spiritual and physical. I am so grateful he allowed me to complete this challenge.
      P.S. My feet are STILL sore today...lol

      More so of shocked and a little scared. We were very careful as this was our first like real hike. The last half mile was the hardest since it was more going straight up but they have paint markers letting you know which way to climb. Other than that just some blisters from the boot

    I see there’s some pretty steep
    Ads cents but are there any steep descents?

    • @RunWithJ
      @RunWithJ  4 роки тому

      Hi there! The descent is basically the same route but in reverse. Coming down the first mile from the peak was tricky due to the steepness and fatigue but once you get past the tree line it’s a little easier. We got back down 45 minutes faster than climbing up.

    @pauldwyer7359 3 роки тому +3

    P.S. I was feeling Victoria's pain every step of the way. How did she handle the descent? I have learned that the trip down the mountain is twice as painful as the trip up.

    • @RunWithJ
      @RunWithJ  3 роки тому

      😀. The descent wasn’t as bad since we went down the same route we came up in. We went down about 45 minutes faster probably because we just wanted to get out of there. We ran out of water about a mile before the entrance but we made it. I had blisters on both of my feet from the descent with the foot sliding to the front. Much easier going down, but we had to be careful with the steep parts.

    • @pauldwyer7359
      @pauldwyer7359 3 роки тому

      @@RunWithJ It's probably my age, but I found the descent a lot more tricky and pain-inducing. feet were killing me and i thought I'd sprained my left ankle until yesterday when I realized that my whole left foot was just slightly more sore than the right foot. Back on both feet today though, and feeling great. Either way, glad you guys made it back safely. For all the strenuous effort and pain, there's no place like the mountains to renew one's spirits.

    I LIKE the video but would have preferred no music at the beginning to go with it. Just do the hike and talk about what you see would have been good. I did this same exact trail in August 2010. I didn't summit till about 4:30pm that day and then had to come back to the parking lot with a Knee that began to cause me serious pain and issues. Got back to parking lot at 11:45pm. Thankfully I had a very good Head lamp to light my way or I may not be typing this review here today. lol. I must say I am perplexed at the need to want to put a face diaper on at the top of a MTN 5334 ft in elevation where there are like 10 people max..... totally un-necessary and doesn't protect you, my two cents.
