I think the reason so many teenagers and young adults want to be some form of activist right now is because 1) when you're at a young stage in your life where you're more vulnerable and lost in the world being part of something that's bigger than you might bring you some comfort guidance even community and I think that's very alluring to a lot of young people 2) it's just become a part of youth culture to be active in some way cuz the amount of teens and young adults that have Marxist or communist in their bios who barely read theory is astounding.
But I've also seen alot (majority) of young people who have read theory and are hella smart. Plus you don't necessarily need to read theory to understand the negative sides of capitalism. Alot of people are firsthand experiencing the result of capitalism around the world, which in turns makes us want to collectively do something about it
I think this is a very dismissive view. Activism is one of the reasons Americans have had powerhouses like MLK and others who've fought for their view on justice. Activism has brought upon more legislation than just sitting there and paying taxes. Most of the laws that protect the average citizen in any state is mostly thanks to activism. To dismiss activism in its entirety as a teenage fad is SO weak. Just say you don't care enough to be part of it, you want someone else to fight the fight and benefit from it. That's fine.
