Cruise ships and all you can eat buffets are awful. They literally throw away tons of food every day. The only glimmer regarding cruise ships is that fish aren't too picky and will happily eat what they're dumping before they come into port.
I used to work at KFC and we wasted SO MUCH food on the close. We would have to throw out all the extra stuff that didn't sell. Staff took it home but I couldn't possibly get through all that food.
Look, smell and taste. Three rules to live by. Contrary to what you might think, a little taste will NOT make you sick. Just dip a finger and lick it. You want to taste it, not eat it. Of course, only do that after you look at it and smell it. In most cases, mold can be removed and the rest of the food can be salvaged. Don't be a prude.
Movies and TV Shows normalize food waste a lot, we see sandwiches thrown away after a single bite, entire trays of food spilled just to bully/prank others.
This is a massive irritant for met. ! A giant pet peeve! I work at a large supermarket. The amount of food waste makes me crazy! This is AFTER the charity gets theirs, After the staff get a small slim-pickens of a bit of stuff. It makes me see red when labels, "ripen at home" and it takes 2 weeks longer than the date on the package says! My place of employment gives to the homeless shelters, a food waste app, it's staff and community organisations and still I see a hundred bags get thrown out. Fruit and veg because "it's not perfectly blemish free" goes into bin bags to be dumped. (I was told what's left travels to Germany to be "processed" into animal feeds. Well I've a hobby farm myself. Yeah. If love to be getting free stuff for my animals ( feed them less. Buy less in the first place. No one stays home all the time so buy 3 days at a time, not even.
I overheard two supermarket employees a manager if they want 8 crates of lettuce to go to the food bank. The manager said send them 1 crate. As a dumpster diver and someone who volunteers at a food bank that angered me. The same supermarket locks their waste food in a container and dyes it blue. I no longer shop at that supermarket and have spread the word wide. The sole motivation of supermarkets donating food to food banks is to make their corporate social responsibility look good while they continue to gouge customers and pay extortionate rents to an offshore subsidiary to reduce their tax liabilities. They are the most corrupt organisations.
