I am Asian and I did learn what the quadratic formula is when I was 11-12 (I can't quite remember around that age)
and I still don't know why and how it was created.
They just told me to remember it and answer particular questions created to just use the formula and then moved on.
I remembered how frustrated I was in class watching your video.
and I'm gonna google it right now to let go of this burden.

I was in 'hagwon' (cram school) and they should've done a better job than telling kids to just remember it because that's the whole point of their existence.

Did you know that you don't need to remember the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations? Method based on the properties of a parabola is in many situations much easier, especially for more complex solutions.
It goes a bit something like this:
- Get the equation into x^2+bx+c=0 format : x^2-9x+8=0
- The sum of two roots = -b therefore the middle between roots is therefore -b/2 : b=-9 therefore a=9/2
- The product of two roots is c, and roots are equidistant from the mid point (a), so the distance, z can be found via (a+z)(a-z)=c : (9/2+z)(9/2-z)=8 or (9/2)^2-z^2=8 so z^2=49/4 and z=7/2
- And knowing the equidistant midpoint between the roots and the distance, we know that the roots will be (-b/2+z) and (-b/2-z) : x=(9/2+7/2), (9/2-7/2) or x=(8, 1)
Also if you think this is more difficult than just using the formula, try getting the roots for something like 2x^2-3x+10=0 for a comparison between the methods.

Okay in Steven's accent: When I was in middle school, I solve quadratic equations, Everyday. I had so much fun, it became my daily hobby, I was even looking for every page to solve the equation. If you cannot solve the equation, you are a Failure.
When the reactor can't go 5 seconds without pausing the video so you end up what's every bit of it half a dozen times.

I've gotten old enough to see the span of (technological) improvements over decades to realize how much EASIER things are today compared to "back then".
I'm just not yet old enough to complain constantly about it. . . .YET. lol
Well I'm asian, the thing is, It kind of is true in my case. I was in high school at 10 years old because I started early and got accelerated, so when I was 10, I remember having to memorize quadratic equation and many others. Started working at 12, I was in college at 14 studying BS Electrical Engineering. By the age of 19, I have designed 3 major hospital electrical layout, and now at 27, I have designed 12, and is basically doing almost nothing at this point in my life.

4:40 .....Where are you in the country where you get taught that song? .....My mom came up with that... She was a high school teacher in MA. She would find random childrens songs people knew and slap math stuffs over it and force the class to recite them repeatedly... and I had her as a teacher too! XD
