For me? Probably Dagran. He's like if a new player were an actual character; curious and positive. But he isn't completely naive or even remotely sheltered despite being a prince.
Dhadgar used the same spell from his Harbingers short that disintegrated the dreadlord. That she came out on the other side unscathed is what scares him. He's physically weak bc that spell uses a lot of magic. And yeah she probably just funneled that attack into the heart.
I can't remember if you saw Khadgar's Harbinger short, but he uses the same attack against a demon at the end of it and completely obliterates it in one shot without breaking a sweat. The fact that he uses the same attack against her and sustains it to the point where he is drained establishes Xal'atath as a massive threat.
I'm nearly convinced that Xal is actually an Old God herself. It also has me pondering... were the Old Gods different, before they were Void-corrupted? WHat if that's what Azeroth is? An uncorrupted Old God(ess)?
The small detail I love is that a split second before xalatath dodges alleria’s arrow, you can actually see her eyes dart to her right, showing the moment she noticed alleria’s presence
My favorite part of this whole cutscene is the absolute epic refrain of Khadgar's personal theme music when he lights up atiesh for the nuke blast! Every time I watch this cutscene in reaction videos or whatever I have to do the powerful conductor hand motion as that musical moment hits! His theme is well established over many expansions, and that was such a culmination of "the guardian is guardian'ing now!" Just chills!
The storytelling along the main storyline is great too, including more cutscenes, hope you get to run through that in game and see them the way they should be seen.
There's a big thing with the breaking of Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. This is a VERY powerful staff passed down through the line of the Guardians of Tirisfal up until and including Medivh, the Last Guardian. It used to be Medivh's staff and he gave it to Khadgar. Khadgar did NOT want to be Guardian and has rejected attempts to put him into that role, he just keeps telling people he's Kirin Tor and a member of the Council, not the Guardian. But, his actions over time have put him into that role whether he wants to have the title or not. The staff was born from the "seed of hate" and grants its wielder "power unending." If you can find a picture of it, the head of it is a crow, which we see Khadgar becoming at times, his flight form. The mere fact he can wield it and make it work, harnessing the power but not letting it control him shows he had his own internal power and the ability to pull arcane power from other places (the planet, air, etc). There's a legend that the staff contains all the power of its former wielders, maybe even their very essence. Khadgar pulling that much power, trying to overload Xal'atath's is significant. He's never done that before. The arcane spell sigil that forms on the top of the staff is something I don't think I've seen in the game ever (and I've mained a mage since 2008). When she knocks him back and pummels him with the void tendrils, I think he may have pulled the staff up to try to protect himself (although it's not shown) but she goes through it like butter, breaking it. Makes me wonder if the energy (and hatred) of that staff might have escaped and got sucked into the Dark Heart as well, it would make sense. Gotta admit, as a mage, when this happened, I cried literal tears. Death in WoW is always hard, but his is worse, to me, than Varian's or Saurfang's. It's only second in my mind to Anduin losing his life (Gawds let's not do that, okay???). And there's a lot more crazy to happen, this expansion's shaping up to be one of the best ever.

I like the fact that she levitates everywhere. The body is just a vessel. It is a dead body. It is probably easier to levitate than make it walk and do complicated movements. She probably could but doesn't have to.

We dont know why she needs such an insane amount of power, but thats also what she's doing as Khadgar walks in! She's absorbing the arcane magic right out of Dalaran itself
I mean, we pretty much know. She's supposed to bring the void lords to Azeroth. That can only be done by creating a tear in the fabric of reality, which takes a ton of power. Even with the tear created by the power unleashed by a Chernobyl-like Manaforge explosion in outland, Dimensius was only able to manifest a tiny fraction of his power in reality.
Khadgar is the mage of mages, but he's not actually the strongest ever. He rejected the power of the Guardian which had become tainted by Sargerus(sp?), so he's actually the weakest Guardian in Azeroth's history. Still one of the strongest mages in the world, but what really makes him important is how he leads the effort of cooperation between the heroes of the Horde and the heroes of the Alliance. A famous line of his is that we are all Azeroth's Guardians.
He absolutely should have known better than to pit Arcane against the Void. We've seen the Void feed on arcane energy repeatedly. (I'm not really sure Alieria could have offered anything more- Void v Void is less predictable, and she's outmatched pretty exponentially.) In the end, this feels like it's going to be Anduin's fight. (No spoilers, please. I'm not there yet either!)
if dragonflight taught us anything, it's that true victory will only come from cooperation. we need arcane and light and void and life and death and fel all working together to truly bring balance to the forc, errr, universe
Some really nice cutscenes this expansion, having fun so far. On another note, I recommend you someday checking up "Dead Fantasy", it is an animation series made by Monty Oum that crossovers characters from Final Fantasy and Dead or Alive, since It seems you're into Final Fantasy, you might like it, and the fight animations and coreography are top notch.
This is what made the biggest difference between The War Within and Dragonflight. Consequences. In Dragonflight, every time someone got into a conflict, they were always bailed out. Here, something world changing happened.
The crazy thing about Khadgar is that he could have had the powers of the Guardian, the combined power of the old Council of Tirisfal... But he turned it down. He has only his own powers from decades of study. He became more powerful than Medivh without the borrowed power Medivh was given.
8:25 - "Has he ever done that big attack and not be drained?" I dont think we have ever seen him do such a big attack ever, period. The one I can think of is from back in the end of Wacraft 2 when a mage (later revealed to be Khadgar) destroys the Dark Portal that the orcs used to invade the planet. If you look up the Human Ending to Warcraft 2 you will see (remember that it is from 1996 so graphic fidelity is not the best).

The Dark Heart that Xal’athath has absorbs arcane power. His choice to shoot her with a giant arcane beam was questionable at best

But what about Khadgar's harbingers video? Looks like exactly same spell to me.
They have been a little obsessed with showing Xalatath's feet and toes though. They can tone that down. Do they have something against shoes or socks?
Khadgar dead? In WoW no actual death scene (Varian), no dead body (Vul'Jin) equates to....................Not Dead!
