The war is on independence/self reliance. I am fairly new to your channel and have started watching the videos from the beginning. In a prior video you mentioned your preference for gas engines due to the cost of repairs.maintenance, and you made very good points. I have one, I think, very important reason for wanting to have a diesel truck and tractor on hand. I, simply put, in a pinch I believe I can grow diesel fuel. Just food for thought. Love your channel.
We're about half and half gas and diesel equipment and I can make a case for either. Old non electronic diesels will already run on about any oil that will go through the injectors just filter it good . I reckon you could distill ethanal for a gas engine, I keep joking I'm going to get a pair of mules
A good machinist can replicate just about anything. And it helps to have the old part to fabricate a design from. Good Luck Chris. I enjoy your channel.
Hi Chris. I wonder if there is a machine shop around that could fix or create a new plate for your grinder.. I hope the new grinder works well though. Good to see you on video again :)
I've been to everyone of them local , say it would have to be cast not milled . Might could modify one already made but no specs on what I can find online
Hi Chris thanks for all your good videos. Can you please do a video on making your on hog feed with the new mill or what the recipe would be. Thanks again Bill
I will , I improved that amazon grinder and made it more user friendly . The recipe is still the same basically only thing that changes is adding rye or wheat when it's available and I add a little peanut oil now to keep the dust down in pig and sow feed
@@HomesteadingtheHardWay I'll see if I can find the site that I ordered them from. But in the mean time if you think you can make one work you are more than welcome to get one of them.
We’ve been selling halves and wholes for several years now. We are getting more into selling individual cuts and packs now. I’m sure you’ve got a good game plan. But, we got burned early on by including the processing fees. Those fees can get really high if they choose bacon or certain sausages. We are now getting $4 per lb hanging weight And they pay processing. It’s working a lot better.
I'm doing something real similar , here I can't sell cuts without a license . 5.00 a lb by hanging weight and I pay processing (about a dollar a lb. ) but hams and bacon are extra not sure on the beef price yet or if I'm going to sell quarters or just half's
We got our meat license for $100. It was real easy. It’s called the “mobile meat license.” We make more money per hog that way. We’re in North Georgia and people pay 8$ per pound pack of sausage. Around 115 packs per hog comes out pretty good
Well Chris there is a whole letz burr mill I found up here for sale I'd imagine you would have to get it converted to electric instead of tractor belt and also have no clue how to get it there from ND 😅 Also your correct on to many people are selling pigs without knowing what they have. That's why we bought a registered breeding stock now we don't register the litters but we can show the customers the papers for the parents if asked so I think at least in our area it pays to spend the extra money on that piece of paper
Good to see you doing well Chris. Yes, seems strange times are coming. I'll be expanding my garden space soon so I can grow more. Oh, that "animal tax" is just a hoax though it keeps on spreading.
Mr. Chris have you ever looked into getting a Stone Mill my parents have had one my hole life When I was growing up Made our own flower and grits and grinds fast and fine
I'm going to have to get the hammer mill going , need it for cow feed anyway .that burr mill is just so convenient for hog and chicken feed , flip a switch and get it done no set up or takedown and it would do 450 lbs an hour easy . Hammer mill will do that in 30 minutes with an hour to hook and unhook it . I've seen stone mill used they grind a little fine for feed don't they?
They grind real fine but the one we had growing up you Could adjust stone gap depending on how fine you wanted it to grind But the Hammermill sounds like it’s the ticket keep us posted on how it works I keep up the awesome videos man
I'm constructing a new finishing pen I've herd that long narrow pens make hogs grow faster any thought that ? Anyhow thinking 150 foot long by 40 foot wide
I don't know about long and skinny but the tighter you pen them the faster they'll grow within reason , they need room to move just don't want them running much I count every kernnel of corn and it makes a difference ,I'm obsessed with getting mine 2.5 on feed conversion and 5 months to topped

Always good to see a video from you guys take care!
Going to try to make up for slacking off now that I feel better
Thank you for your good, solid, down to earth wisdom and encouragement
Just trying to help
Can't wait to see the new mill. Hope it works out for you. Grow and raise what you can while you can.
Honestly I don't have high hopes for it , I think it's going to be really important having the ability to feed yourself
Good seeing you on video. Glad you have great knowledge to pass on to us.
I'm back working kinda , thank you again for the food the other day . Meant a lot
Good to see you hope you are better
I'm definitely improving preacher just a slow process
Thats what I like about you Chris, you always tell it like it is.
I try !!

Every time someone needs something to sell they re-invent the wheel, red wattle hogs pugles and so on just mutts with a fancy name and a big price!
There's a lot of truth in that John

Hey good to see your out & working! Sorry the grinder is down. If you can send me some info i will look around here. Take care, God Bless
I wish I had some to send , not a thing wrote on it or a bit of information I can find
Glad to see you folks you look well Chris. Looking forward to the pig breed conv.
Probably going to do it tomorrow , I'm definitely improving

Is the plate of the new grinder the size of the plate that broke on your grinder if so I have three extra
They are real close , wouldn't take much to make them fit . I could use a couple of them to be honest

Chris any gotchas with a gas engine Ford 2000?
Not really , steering is the biggest thing we fix on them normally . Most of the time that's operator error

@@mattbrown5505 problem here is you have to have a refrigerated truck to transport the meat
