Haha, Im a trumpet player, and I used to hate, with a passion the sound of the piccolo. So my friend begged me to listen to this. (: I guess I only hate piccolos when the person can't play them. You did magnificent, I enjoyed listening to this. (:
crap i hope i get fast fingers like yours! we had to play this in band class and i struggled soo much! and we have to this by memory for the up coming season :p
There's a tuba version of this also. Maybe the two of you should get together. I''m a French horn player, and I find it very interesting to listen to isolated recordings of the high and low parts to this piece! (Similar to watching a video of a marching band in a parade, where the microphone remains in one spot as all the different sections of the band pass by.)
Do you still play? Flute or oboe? I hope so. Sadly, no one plays these American masterpieces. For one thing, they’re too difficult. When I was in my 20s I saw the last of the traveling circus bands perform with the Carson & Barnes Circus, under a Big Top. (I also got to ride an elephant.) I spoke with the director (who I’m sure is long dead) and he told me that he needed musicians, and that he’d hire me, but in addition to the clarinet and euphonium (which I had and played), I’d also have to double on tenor sax. At the time, I had just bought my first house, I had a steady job and a girl friend. I would’ve give all that up and run away with the circus, but for one thing. There’s no way I could ever play those Screamers (circus marches) at that level. I did, owever, try my hand at writing in that style: ua-cam.com/video/EO3iA0wQcs0/v-deo.html I hope you’ll listen - your opinion would mean a lot, because not many people appreciate that American style. Drop me a line, and I’ll send you the piccolo part.
@@KeithOtisEdwards oh to run away with the circus. I would love that opportunity. but like you I have a stable job in healthcare. And my dogs. I do pick up my instruments here and there. But only for fun and to run through these pieces. I love them! However I dont own an oboe! I will go have a listen now!

What band do you play in that plays all these great old circus gems?
This was when I was in high school. I fell in love with marches, and just kept collecting really. Never got to perform any sadly.
