    5:46 It's hard to believe that the Draken first flew in 1955. Even in 2024, it's still a sleek, futuristic-looking jet fighter.

      @@theflyingfool yes indeed My grandfather who was a metallurgist and mechanical engineer taught me how to use both a circular and linear slide rule while I was in primary school, and he used to test me occasionally... He himself I feel was probably a polymath he was multilingual 6 different languages and could do complex maths in his head to 6 decimal places...He taught I was the dumbest one in the family...even though I had a degree in mining engineering....

      Once WW2 ended is when the Hitler's head rocket scientist created NASA and the whole pop culture phenomenon of outer space started and it's all because that's when UFO technology started being reverse engineered and applied to the designs of things like fighter jets

      I sat in a cockpit of a Finnish air force Draken in the 90’s and that thing was tiny!
      The thrust-lever was completely to the left of the left side of the canopy, so that you had to snake your arm under some metal. I wouldn’t want to try leave that spot in a hurry.

    I've seen most of these aircraft displaying or otherwise passing by. The most memorable for me were the Lancaster and the BBMF overlying my parents home one Sunday afternoon. A Canberra displaying on the coast. It kept overflying the headland we were sitting on and the noises it made were amazing. And finally the Red Arrows on the same headland. They were using it for cover, along with the low cloud base, to 'sneak up' on the spectators. Was amazing.

Seeing those Lancasters and B-17 always makes me wonder and lament the fact that, even though they were so vital and iconic a relatively short time ago, they and so many others have been left to rot away and disappear until only one or two airworthy examples remain. If we could turn back time, would we not want to preserve them by the dozen?

      Yes a calculated risk and one that's well worth it, for me personally there's no better buzz than having a jet rush low over me. I don't stand directly under them 100% of the time either..

      Propellers in videos may appear to move slowly due to the relationship between the propeller's speed and the camera's frame rate. For example, if the propellers are moving at 9,000 revolutions per minute (RPM) and the camera records at 150 frames per second, the propellers will appear stationary.

    Has anyone explained to C-17 pilots that, when doing a touch and go, you are supposed to have the "weight on wheels" light go on before throttling up and climbing out?
    Lancaster - You're supposed to drop the Upkeep cookie from 60 feet!!
    Canberra - PR9? I mean I can see the "fighter" canopy.

    • @TheOracle65
      @TheOracle65 2 місяці тому

      yes, that's a PR9. My dad used to fly the bomber version, the B(I)8 with the same offset canopy. Great looking plane.

      We don’t need a C-17 “weight on wheels landing light.” Our spoilers dearm on TnG’s when the flaps are retracted to 1/2, throttles are past 65 degrees, and TOGA engages. Either one takes care of the spoilers to disarm for the takeoff

    I attended a Blue Angels homecoming in Pensacola some years ago... they supplemented the regular show with an F-14 nearing retirement. There were dozens of car alarms going off, multiple times. Base personnel probably had to facilitate a number of jump starts that afternoon to get people out of there! 😅
