So glad you decided to start seeing Jurassic Park, @Mary Cherry! It's a pretty epic, awesome, and intense movie for every fan of dinosaurs. The "nice music" is composed by the great John Williams, who also composed the music for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws, E.T., etc. And the special and practical effects were so amazing, even I thought all the dinosaurs were really real. I hope you enjoy seeing the rest of the Jurassic Park movies, and get ready for next year when Jurassic World: Dominion comes into theaters

Notice how during the t-Rex sequence in the rain, there’s a solid 15 minutes or so with absolutely no music. Originally Spielberg had John Williams write sort of classic menacing horror type music, but decided to not add it because omitting it added a lot more suspense. You’re left without the typical guidance you get with a musical score. This is where the sound design really shines on its own

"Why would he put children at risk?"
You said it yourself a few minutes earlier. They're the target demographic for the park. Remember, this was supposed to be a test of the park and its attractions in order to root out any bugs or flaws before it was officially opened to the public. Of course Hammond would want the opinion of some children, and who'd give him better/more honest commentary than his own grandchildren?
In addition to that, while it's not outright stated in the movie, Lex and Tim's trip isn't just about them visiting the park. They were also supposed to stay with their grandpa for a few days anyway while their parents finalized their divorce. Hammond simply wanted to give them an experience of a lifetime in order to distract them from what was going on with their parents.
Also, Ellie is not Alan's wife. They're romantic partners, but they haven't tied the knot yet, one reason being Grant's aversion to children, as implied earlier in the movie at the paleontological dig site.

When I watched this in the cinema there was a middle-aged woman sat in front of me who wasn't bothered by anything at all. But when the Raptor was looking through the window in the kitchen door and it snorted to steam up the glass she almost jumped out of her seat!
This was probably the first film I saw in a cinema which left me in awe at what I was seeing when Dr. Grant first saw the dinosaurs. With so much technology and CGI available these days I don't think children will ever have that "Wow" moment because it's in so many video games, movies and even TV shows that the "Wow factor" isn't there any more because it's become the norm.

The first JP movie is one of favorite films of all time, I mean. As a kid (Also the same age as you), dinosaurs were my life, and couldn't get enough of them, so when the third movie was coming out (the first movie was months old by the time I was born), I had to get the entire trilogy on VHS. The fact that this movie had held up so well, it's a absolute classic. The sequels are... Fine, Jurassic World is, also fine-ish, Fallen Kingdom... Ehhh, but hey, it has Dinosaurs, so it's watchable.

To add to this fact, they didn't take into account that the skin of the T-Rex would absorb the water from the rain adding a lot of weight to the robot T-Rex head. The extra weight was too much for the servos and hydraulics to handle. Which is why it broke through the car top. The addition of "real" puppets/robots and the cgi was so good, which is one of the many reasons (music score, direction, story, etc) that this film as held up over the last 28 years.

Hello, just wanted to say that the t-Rex was supposed to break through the top of the glass. I mean there’s quick cuts and the cameras angles clearly suggest that it was planned. However, a part of the glass actually breaks off after it was pushed through the jeep by the t-Rex, which is the detail that was not supposed to happen.

Fun fact. When they were filming the T-Rex attacking the jeep (they built a 30-foot animal electronic T-Rex) Spielberg and everyone else on set realized that this dinosaur was going to be the star of the show. So they changed the ending to have the T-Rex saving the main characters than having falling dinosaur bones killing the raptors.

Most paleontologists think Tyrannosaurus specialized in hunting and feeding on large hadrosaurs and estimate it could swallow 100 lbs of meat in one bite. Both a goat and an adult male human would each be little more than an appetizer for a hungry T. rex.

The scene with the T-Rex attacking the SUV was so wild on the big screen and those sounds it made just shook the whole place. The ambient sound was so great... you could hear it and other things out in the jungle. But I'll never forget the part where they're trying to get away from the Raptors and Lex falls through the ceiling. When the Raptor jumps up to grab her leg looked so damn real. I jumped abed pulled my legs up into my seat. Everyone around me got such a laugh at my expense.
