I started calling them soft when we played Michigan and Cam Brown got into it with the Michigan player in the end zone and ripped his helmet off. Denzel Burke was standing right there when the Michigan linemen came and confronted Cam, and he didn't help him. Plus, it took forever for the rest of our guys to come and help out.
Ohio State fans are Lucky that the team is basicly elite every year and forever. Most fan bases don't have that. You take it for granted
I always think your analysis is spot on and I’m thankful for it. Keep up the great work.
If anyone is soft it is this fanbase giving Jims BS the light of day because he stole some wins. Thank you Birm for saying it! They would never have survived Cooper.
So many people are now vicariously coaching the Buckeyes.. hope they are getting paid!
Whoever made a comment about prayer before and after a game indicating them being soft is clueless. There are greater forces than football and it takes greater strength to take a public stance about your beliefs than to make a comment under the guise of a social media name or as a person selling your product of a blog. Prayer to your God is always good. Criticizing someone you have never met is almost always wrong and weak.
ALL WE CAN DO IS HOPE GO BUCKEYES I'LL ALWAYS LOVE MY BUCKEYES BUT THIS SATURDAY IS A PROVE IT GAME FOR THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF THANKS GUYS!
I was a jr at osu in 2002 when Chris Gamble intercepted penn state and returned it for a touchdown. It is the single most memorable play in my time as an OSU fan, and it was the most electric I've ever seen the shoe. The energy was more nervous-excited for Michigan than anything, I think the fans remembered too many perfect seasons ruined by Michigan under Cooper and were terrified of it happening again.
Birm, 0 punts in the 4th qtr of your last 5 “matchup” games is soft. 2 yards per carry in your last two games is soft. 8 plays of 25 yards or more against Oregon is soft. The opposing team dictates how Ohio State plays, Ohio State doesn’t dictate it. They are 100% soft.
Quit your whining, OSU will be fine. Not too many teams can lose their LT and keep winning. If you didn't think the run game would be affected for a couple of weeks than you're slow
@@rightfulone2597IU ran for 6.5 per carry and had 5 rushing TDs against Nebraska. Stop making excuses for them. You think IU has athletes like Ohio State? They’re soft. It’s time to admit it. It’s Day’s culture.
@bgeorge3073 Only a casual would compare what one team does to a team...to another. You just exposed yourself. Let me ask you something, Alabama beat Georgia, Vanderbilt beat Alabama...you think Vanderbilt is better than Georgia? By you're compare the win theory you do. Nebraska played up to OSU, OSU overlooked them and it almost cost them. Quit whining about what another team did.
@@rightfulone2597 well if they overlooked them with 2 weeks off and following a loss I think that’s more concerning than anything else I’ve said.
@bgeorge3073 Who had 2 weeks off? They had one week off. And they are 18-22 year old kids. It happens. After the Oregon game everyone was gassing them up for only losing by 1 on the road and having a chance to win...this week they had been getting torn apart for that game. If they don't respond Saturday I'll agree with you in this very thread. They won last week and let's see how they respond to another top 5 match up on the road before we call them soft. Every team in the country has looked shaky at some point. Oregon barely beat Idaho. Let's not forget
Great teams have multiple ways of winning games. When Plan A doesn't work, they follow equally potent Plan B. When Plans A and B don't work, they follow equally potent Plan C. I hope OSU proves itself to be a great team Saturday afternoon.
I don't think we are "soft" but we don't play with aggression. Our play calling isn't aggressive, our defense isn't aggressive. We have great talent, but we need a few hard-core pipe hitters to get medieval out there.
If people are calling them soft for praying that's BS. When they are getting called soft for constantly getting pushed around in the trenches, and can't hold their own against equal talent I dont have a problem with it. "No wild card guys on this team with shank-ability" Birm knows he says it all the time
If there not soft than what are we lacking ?
They’re not soft because they’re praying or because Jim Harbaugh says so, They’re soft bc 3rd and short has been problematic for them for 3.5 years. I would love to see them lean into it and spread teams out with 4 wr but that’s a bigger pipe dream than getting the defensive ends out of wide nine
I’ve given up on the Buckeyes this year. We have no offensive and defensive lines. We are not winning the national championship and I doubt we will even make it to the BIG10 Championship game because I don’t think we are gonna beat Penn State or Indiana
I don't get the "soft" comments either .. but why then does Ryan Day stubbornly try to run up the middle on 3rd and 1, in the face of the strength of the Nebraska (and other) team, to prove a point of being a "tough team"? Do what you do best! Be innovative, make the other team look silly, and score TD's!
From a Psychiatrist point of view anyone who goes into anyCOMPETITION must prepare for one reality either a win or a loss( no ties/draws in this case). If you expect anything else then your mental capacity maybe misplaced… You hope to win but you can also lose.
The narrative that the team is soft is stupid. My opinion is that there's too many players that try to make the spectacular play (looking at you D-line) instead of just doing their job. Fill gaps, keep your leverage, and win your responsibility. Do that and there's no reason this team would be struggling.
Why are you guys staying in Bedford PA? I would stay in Foxburg PA and visit Emlenton PA they have a great Brew House awesome food.
Will is osu mvp
1-7 top 10 games, we will just keep enjoying that clemson game. no revenge agaisnt oregon- no revenge agains TCUN what do you expect from this fan base?
We say they are soft because they consistently lose in the 4th quarter. They have forced ZERO punts in the 4th quarter to top ranked teams. They can't run the ball against good defenses. The defense doesn't show up against better ranked teams.
Personally, my definition of soft is tightening up in big games. That’s why Ryan has the label he has right now. The only thing that will change that is winning everything this year and surviving the gauntlet it’ll take to do so.
All anyone wants is honest media period. You should be able to critique coaches who aren’t living up to 10 million per year!!!
Unfortunate to hear birm apologize for telling the truth earlier in the week. I don’t know if the coaches got to him or what, but what he said is true. No way around it. Having to coddle coaches who can’t do their jobs, or players that under perform goes against the whole soft monologue we just heard. The prayer thing being an issue is stupid.
Speak your mind, who cares what these drones say. I am here because I want to hear your opinion. Don't let the drones shape your thoughts.
The absurdity of the "soft" talk is only matched with the fact that for years their interior lines have been handled by other quality teams and we (meaning the media mostly) let Ryan Day change the argument to toughness when no one ever questioned their toughness but questioned their physicality or overall talent. Their line play vs run & pass tbh has cost them probably 2-3 national championships in the last few years without any advancement to date. It's driving me mad!
Also remember we will get everybody best so there should be no world where Chip and Ryan are not preparing for list competition needs to never happen again this season Vandy beat Bama Boise almost beat Oregon we are any CFB anybody can beat anybody if you are making millions act like it show it on the field
Is that a Floyd of Rosedale on Austin's mantel? Story time?
That's the Birm i know,straw-manning and insulting the fanbase. This team IS football soft and i'd have no problem telling any of them that. Birm's idea of tough is whether or not a 22 year old football player would fight someone from the fanbase. A perversion of masculinity. No surprise. That any of them would act that way is PROOF of soft character, not evidence of toughness.
You are way too easy on Coach Day,straw man after straw man argument notwithstanding.
That’s probably the best way to word it. Football soft. Birm called it out and was a truth teller this week. Now he’s backtracking and for what reason I do not know. We’ve all seen their performances in big games where they come up short. They all look the same. They are beaten physically. So idk why he needs to backtrack but it’s sad
It’s funny for the last three years all we hear is Buckeye fans are complaining but what is it to be happy for we haven’t won a big game in three years this is college football and a team like Ohio state only has two or three big games a year and yet for the last three years Day can’t win any of them he was only tough for Lou Holtz so yeah if an outsider or even a fan looks at us we are a joke and we are soft Will and Caleb just got here and are the only guys accountable in loses and in small victories like last Saturday we gotta stop spoiling these coaches media and players this really is a put up or shut up year all the crying shit can be left in the past with scUM Natty
This is not a knock, but what is it that we’ve seen from Will Howard that’s more than what we expected? To be clear, I think Wil has looked really good this year, but I haven’t necessarily seen anything different than what we saw on tape at Kansas State. Maybe more consistency due to his surrounding cast. Frankly, I think his running is being limited to what we saw on tape either due to a nagging injury or coaching decisions. I do think we might see one or two above and beyond things this weekend because of how personal this game is for him.
i hope we win , but - BUT likely, they will choke on each other's vomit and end 9:7 by end.
This episode was terrible. Nobody has a problem with the players praying, the problem was the timing. It’s disrespectful to the university and gets to the root of the problem. This team isn’t a team. It’s a bunch of talented players who have a coach who can’t put it together. Ryan day needs to go yesterday. This team under urban was a well oiled machine who didn’t beat teams, they demoralized them. The excuses in this episode “oh we don’t think of them as human beings”. Get over yourself. Of course we do, we just have a high level of expectations that haven’t been met since Ryan took over. He has a job and he isn’t doing it to the level he needs!
And got demolished by Iowa and Purdue. Lost to a backup QB at MSU and was shutout against Clemson.
@ and ryan day has done similar things too. Difference is, Day can’t motivate anyone. When the chips are down he rolls over and gets ho hum and it reflects on the players. Just listen to Zach Boren talk about this team. It tells you all you need to know about the leadership on this team

The soft comments should be about the prayer circle but how they play on the field. Both lines play soft and I believe it comes from coaching and on the oline is recruiting, they recruit more finesse players instead of the old slobber knocker linemen
When people say they're soft or not tough, they mean it's not a physical team. Day's teams stink at running the ball, especially between the tackles and it's not a new thing. This is who he is and some of us said that's what we would eventually get as the program became more and more Day's program. There are plenty of knowledgeable football people who have identified this as an issue of the Day era. And that's not OSU's historical DNA.
