The main condition comes from the definition of |x|. Whatever value is inside the mod | |. The definition tells us that we have to take 2 conditions i.e x >=0 or x < 0. In the example, |x-3|, since x-3 is inside the mod, we have to take 2 conditions i.e x-3 >= 0 or x-3
