    Very interesting, will give it a try soon, just yesterday I was thinking about googling for a solution for the slow start-up of the picture glance cards and the out of sync camera streams because it defeats the purpose for me. Sometimes guests were already in the house while the stream still showed them parking up the drive way :D

    I followed the instruction from this video to add RTSPtoWeb. My picture glance cards now load up very fast. But there's still a lag of between 7 and 10 seconds on the video stream itself. Does the addon suppose to fix stream-lag problems as well? The streams are mostly from POE Reolink cameras.

      I don't think that this platform works with MSE. The original WebRTC auto selects. I hope I'm not getting the two confused as I've played around with a number of WebRTC solutions now. The one I use currently supports auto switching to MSE when the connection allows it.

    Thanks for the clarification on this Addon. This definitely works in getting the image with less lag.
    I still have the same issue I had originally with Alex's build in that it opens the stream quickly, but if I experience any movement on the cameras (car driving past, people walking or birds crossing the path) the feed blanks out to a grey background and stays that way for a few minutes until any movement ceases (a person can actually see pixelation on the top of the feed while it's in the grey state. I'm assuming the feed is still active just trying to catch up again or something to that effect) .
    I was quite lucky in that when I initially installed home assistant, it pre found all my cameras running on my dvr, so I never had to sit battling to add it, but the latency is absolutely horrendous (sometimes I manage to see a 30 second delay at worst, but an average of 15-20 seconds isn't uncommon)
    I am currently using it with this anomaly where it blanks out and gives me a grey screen. Although annoying, it is still better than the native solution home assistant added.
    Maybe one day I'll figure out a hack and get it working properly, who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️
    Thanks again for the tutorial, at least now I can add feeds without having to decipher code in the "Custom" cards 🤣
    Edit. Thought I'd take a chance and post my code, so if anyone notices an error, and knows how to solve it, or tweak it, it would be most appreciated.

    With your guidance, thinking I followed okay with the HA logs running clean. Maybe it's because I'm accessing remotely (via Nabu Casa) and don't understand the connectivity, but the Picture Glance Card set to 'live' shows a black box... Yet changing it from live to auto (all w/o the pre-load option), the feed then refreshes a frame every ~10 seconds. Work in progress here, and thanks VM for getting it moving!

    I'm using frigate cards ... selected frigate in the frigate card as a stream provider ( not webrtc) and it works with a 2 seconds delay ..
    Tried the picture glance ... as per this video and compared the speed between 2 browsers side by side one running the rtsp to web and the other just frigate card with frigate as a camera provide and it seems they run the same .. .however what I`m not sure off .. is if I`m really running the webrtc addon because when I clcik on rtsptoWeb I see no cams stats ...
    Update: just realised the difference when I actually added the stream of the camera in the rtsp to webrtc add-on manually .. Huge difference but only in the add-on rtsptoweb UI .. when I add a picture glance in home assistant it still has latency of 2-3 seconds ... I`m just wondering why is this ?
    It would be nice to integrate this addon with frigate card where it would allow you to select the rtsp to webrtc but still keep frigate card.
    I find that if you select the rtsp stream in frigate and select frigate JSMpeg it`s just straming live stream which is really cool.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  2 роки тому +1

      Might be restating what you said here, but frigate doesn't know about RTSPtoWeb so it doesn't use that (as far as I can tell). RTSPtoWeb relies on the configured cameras in configuration.yaml and doesn't know about the others so I don't think they are using the same underlying streaming.
      There is also LL HLS that will work with the picture glance cards if you don't install both the RTSPtoWeb add-on AND the integration. That might be fast enough for some.

    This works wonders for one of my cams.. the garage cam that lets me see if my doors are closed and when I left lights on. I can switch the light on and off and see the change really quickly.
    Oddly, only one of my 8 unifi cams (connected to UDMP) work and one foscam.. does this work for Nest doorbell Gen1? I just get errors that say "Failed to start WebRTC Stream: RTSPtoWeb Server failure: stream channel codec not ready, possible stream offline: Internal Server Error"
    Weird that I cannot see any of the video streams from the RTSPtoWeb UI. The ones that work do not have the preload and snap up super fast.
    Thanks for your videos, they are really great and loaded with details.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  2 роки тому

      You won't be able to see any of the streams in the RTSPtoWeb UI until you actually view them via the add-on. You can manually add them of course to that interface. I'm not sure if this works with the Nest doorbell. Allan is using this with the Nest integration stuff but I don't know for sure if Gen1 is supported. You might want to jump into my Discord and ask in the camera channel.

    • @mostlychris

      It won't interfere with Frigate directly. However, you need to consider how many streams your cameras will allow at one time and how much capacity your network has. Try it out and see what happens. It's all about experimenting and figuring out the best solution for your environment.

      The URL that you are specifying in the camera cards is probably only reachable internally. That would be my first guess.

    Seems pretty hit or miss. I have 10 or so Wyze cams that I loaded RTSP firmware onto. They will load properly on a lovelace view using RTSPtoWeb about 30% of the time. If they don't load immediately when I click on a view tab, they won't ever load either which is kind of a pain.

    • @mostlychris
      @mostlychris  2 роки тому

      Is that an issue with the Wyze cams? What resolution are you running them at. It could be that you are overloading your device or your network.

      @@mostlychris I ended up having to change my home assistant installation from a raspberry pi 4 to loading it on Docker through my Synology NAS. The RTSPtoWeb integration works much better through Docker for my Wyze cams. Not sure why, but I'm happy with it now.

      Same experience here, sometimes it play, sometimes it won't. Also there seems to be a bug with high CPU loads after a while. Try rtsp-simple-server which does the same, but I found it lighter on resources and works every time. Using it with Wyze v2 and v3 cams with RTSP firmware.

    love the video but this is pretty much useless as you can only steam the cameras on LAN. I would have thought that HA is acting as a proxy in this situation and we are not streaming directly to the device (for example the Companion mobile app over cellular). did you find any workaround? obviously the last thing you want to do is to expose / forward the ports on the router. and of course without turning on VPN each time. Thanks!

    • @mostlychris

      There are some options to be able to reach your local network via things like Tailscale, Cloudflare Argo, etc. Those don't require opening up ports. If I have to stream like that, I just turn on tailscale to reach my network. Usually though, I just deal with the alerts and clips while away (using frigate and notifications).
