- Need a way to block a larger opening? Need a baby gate?
Building a rolling baby gate is not hard. Check out this video as Steve builds a baby gate for his large doorway. This gate is designed so that it can easily be rolled out of the way when not in use, as to not block traffic flow in your home.

As the boys got bigger and smarter, one of them figured out how to pull the pin that locks the gate. I changed the pin idea to a bolt. I placed an insert nut in the hole and then used a bolt that screws into the insert nut to lock the gate shut. I think it will be quite awhile before the boys figure out/have the ability to unscrew the bolt (LOL). Here is a link to an insert nut similar to the one that I used.

its your fault if your kids are smart ;-)
By then, the boys will easily be climbing over it.
Excellent job. Thanks for sharing. I personally would have put slats vertically to prevent climbing. But very nice. Looks great.
Yep, that would have been harder to climb. Our boys never climbed over!
The first diy gate video I came across with actual directions and not over manufactured. Thank you!

ABSOLUTELY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR, FOR MY DOGS! THANKS IT'S PERFECT!
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for!!!!! The shiplap look and rolling ease for my dogs on my front porch opening!! Thank you so much for this great rolling gate!
Great! I hope it works out for you.
This is great! We would have to make ours taller and the boards would have to be really close together as our boys would be climbing over it 😬
Been looking for something like this for a long time!! Now we can seperate wider spaces! Love it
Looks good
Thank you! Just built a rudimentary version of this for our lab puppy! We were racking our brains on how to secure the gate, the L bracket idea is amazing!!!!! Thanks again!
You’re welcome! I am glad it worked out.
What a brilliant, and CUTE! IDEA! GREAT JOB DAD!
Thanks so much! We have been getting a ton of use out of this baby gate. Please subscribe to see more of my projects!
Thank you for making this diy video! I made a taller one for my dogs. It works perfectly!
This is an excellent idea. We have a very similar opening to our kitchen and this would work perfectly 👌
Thants 🎉good job 😊
Perfect doggy gate
It is a good solution for doggie gate too! I'll make mine taller for my dog is tall. Thanks for good simple idea, I like not having to worry about hinges! This could be done even on regular width doorways too! Love the idea!
Great! Good job with your gate.
Excellent design, thanks for sharing
Exactly what I was looking for thank you so much!
Good luck with your gate!
Excellent idea! Thank you. Going to work on this next weekend!
Good luck with your gate!
Doing this for my dogs
Good luck!
Thank you for sharing!
Great idea
Horizonal running boards that low is not going to hold them through my experiences....I like the idea and diy design though! I would just make it taller with vertical planks to not create a ladder for them. My 1 year old would be over that in a min. Dude thinks he is going to Ninja warrior and/or prepping for shtf
Looks great! Wish I could do this but my lil 1 year old is a climber.
Brilliant
Thanks!
This is perfect!!!!!!
Thank you!
Great video
Thanks!
Genius
very creative and really smart idea, thanks for sharing !
Very well done thank you
Thanks!
Thank you for your idea 👍🏾
Could you please share a link to those L/U brackets you have used there please
?
I wonder if smaller horizontal mounted casters would work instead of weather stripping with screw.
Possibly. Give it a try!
Ok I love this!!!! But I need one for an outdoor space to keep my grandkids from falling down the stairs. I want to know how to split it and make two that lock in the middle so when coming and going you can unlock half and go through then lock it up... I guess I need to brainstorm how to attach it to the porch railing???? Any idea?? Thanks
Love it, thanks
Thanks! I am glad you like the baby gate! Please subscribe to my channel to see my other projects!!
I sure did, thanks
this is great
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! I'g going to make this exact gate for my dog so he doesn't constantely come into the kitchen and beg for people food every time I'm cooking! :)
Hi! just built my gate. It turned out amazing! It's identical to yours except I made mine with 7 boards instead of 4 because I wanted it taller. It works great, too! Thanks again! :)
Awesome!! I am glad my video helped you with your gate! Our gate gets a lot of use. Please subscribe!
You could also design this gate to work for dogs as well.
👏👏👏
What about using barn door roller guide for the top instead of the L arm bracket?
That could work, although I don’t think you need something that beefy.
Great
Thanks! Please subscribe!
My gate wants to lean toward the wall at the top and “walk” out at the bottom every time I use it. It won’t vertically straight. Any ideas?
Where I have the brackets on the wall to create a guide for the gate, I used foam weatherstripping to create a spacer so that the top does not lean toward the wall. I don’t have an issue with the bottom kicking out. Maybe try a different wheel that has more grip to it. Good luck.
Do they climb up it?
It took a very long time for one to figure out how to climb it, the second boy never did.
Looks like in just a few months they will easily climb it
8 months later and they haven't climbed it yet! Maybe lucky!
The horizontal boards would provide climb over assistance.
Is there a place you list all the items needed
Sorry, I don’t have a list for this.
could you make one for us?
Sorry, that’s not my business.
It looks like a baby ladder 😂 have they figured that out, yet?
It took them years to figure it out. They figured out how to unlock it way quicker than climbing over it!!
How long before the allen wrench was lost? Lol
They figured out how to remove the Allen wrench. I changed to a bolt that you screw in. They still haven’t figured that one out, lol
They will be climbing that thing in less than 2 months
They never figured it out!
Tie a string to Allen wrench to the l bracket so it doesn’t disappear lol
I later switched it to a bolt that I screw in, instead of an Allen wrench, once the boys figured how to pull the Allen wrench out.
They will climb that in no time.
2 years later and they never figured it out.
I heard very good opinions about the Woodglut plans.
