Looking 8 years back, this album got me through my first year of college, numbing depression and a general miasma I totally forgot about. Thanks. Haven't heard this in like 6 years, don't feel as positively as once felt but still Orange Julius hits the same.
just had this same realization today, with the same time frame. winter of 2015/16 in college and winter of 2023/24 here now. crazy how we can associate music with specific time, and then recall the feelings we felt at the time. wild brain stuff going on.
@@bulpz shit's the best feeling. i associate all the specific moments throughout my life with the music/movies/places i experienced. even with the seasons like you've mentioned.
Oh okay yeah, I'll just go and deny myself of the right to free speech because you took one comment far too seriously. I wonder how you're going to feel when I say that Carlos here is literally bae and I can not even omg qt.
It's funny because I'm an English Literature student and so many things I say are out of sarcasm... But this guy, there's nothing we can do about this guy... They got him.
***** Why is it depressing? I can type however I want, people so focused on the way I type is depressing because It's the least important thing in comparison to world issues etc.
I saw them in 2011 or 12 when they opened for Brand New. By far the best band I'd ever experienced as an opener, they opened for my long time favorite band ever. I was in my mid 30s then.
I feel that but coming from someone who felt the same way when it came out: their music got worse when they let some producer tell them to extend their songs. ST and Never Hungover Again are great and everything else is mid. Cody was such a letdown of an album, people just wanted another one of these albums with higher production quality, not longer songs. Short and sweet is what they did best.
Look at this album cover. I can see myself and all my childhood friends in those boys. Some already gone... I think the one looking into the camera must be me. But I'm sure they did too. Thanks for the great music while I was here anyways, cheers!
Here at 30 yesrs old and still feeling as fresh and potent as i did when it hit brand new at 19 or w.e.PSA to the youth: this shit just grows with time! Live it up
This became an instant favourite, I've listened to it a bare minimum of once a month for the last 9 years.. I just remember hearing their name around a few times when they were first starting to gain attention outside California and being like, "I'll probably like this." And then seeking them out and hearing Derailed for the first time and feeling like I did when first discovering like Jawbreaker or whatever.
[Verse 1] Stretching out cheap cotton over your thick skull Oh, I do feel awful on the way to school Can you picture my reaction to the word up on the wall? Is there really something wrong with me? [Verse 2] Stretching out cheap cotton over your thick skull I'm down here under the pavement so inept Until I grab that pen beside you Jam it into your eye See, now you're my kind of man Now you're a stand-up kind of guy [Verse 3] I am dying of embarrassment I'm dying of this hatred I can't rest until you know this bitterness that I have tasted Such humiliation for the first and only time I'm obsessed with your self-righteousness Cut in half by your smile [Chorus] Into the night You're getting harder to believe in You're a cold and quiet paradise Transfixed just by your breathing Into the night And you're the one thing I don't hate You're a cold and quiet paradise My only true escape into the night [Outro] Oh, oh-oh Oh, oh-oh Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh Oh, oh-oh Oh, oh-oh Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
So today I saw that Joyce Manor was doing a 10 year tour, insta bought it. Was so let down it's for "never hungover again" it's a fine album but nothing beats this
Chase Masterof Theuniverse tbh I lost respect for them when I saw that but I saw them headlining for Jeff rosendgock and holy were their fans wild I guess they didn’t feel like stopping in a big venue no stage diving but plenty of crowd surfing
The two singles they've released are incredible, so stoked for the new album. My band just put out an EP that fans of these guys would like so we'd love if you guys checked it out! It's on our channel but also on spotify and itunes and all that jazz, thanks!
I was at the lowest part of my life when i found this album, i remember i painting my new rental house fucked up on pill and alcohol. I was in my late teens / early 20's and wanted to kill myself. This album helped alot. Thank you Joyce Manor and Rusty for the upload. It's depressing but but somehow uplifting hearing this at the same time.
+Lee Strain wait wut someone else listens to Johnny Foreigner? Finally. They are my favorite! This band certainly has the same unpredictable guitar that Alexei loves and the constant tempo change. This is my very first listen to this band though.

+Jason Taylor Excellent advice, sir.

I mean they're no Dead Kennedy's but I see your point.
and dead kennedys are no insert better band here

o shit it me two years ago
Now 6 years. Shit ain't changed homie you a real one 💯
Yeah, that one and literally every other song.
Just scream along to these and your mood improves significantly. Scientifically proven.
ha ha ha ha ha ..
who needs science when you can listen to this
You aint wrong
Their first three albums (especially this one) are literally some of the greatest albums ever.
and you can combine them together and get a full album worth of run time hehe
um… and their 4th album. you can’t forget Cody.
I can't get over all of the feels I am experiencing at this album. New favourite band. I literally cannot even.

This is my favorite album of all time.
Joyce Manor > The Beatles
One of them to man
The emptional depth breadth and scope of this album all while trimming any and all traces of excess...a maninline of feeling
Call out will most likely ALWAYS be in my top 5 JM songs
I AM THE EMBODIMENT OF ANGST AND I CAN SAY THAT I APPROVE OF THIS BAND
Thanks I really needed your affirmation
did u mean to say this cuz damn f'n brilliant.
Constant Headache is simply beautiful. Love the rest of album tho, can't wait to hear new music from these guys!
Youre going to be disappointed.

Sooo emo

in the cool, hot way. not the homophobic way, right?
This album is so good but its too short imo 🤘🏼🎸🥁🖤🖤 When We Were Young 2023 brought me here

another banger by Joyce Manor uncovered ten years later

It's aged super well lol

Memories of riding my bicycle with this album in my ear. Best times
Never gonna get tired of this album
years of therapy: thousands of dollars
screaming the lyrics to the album: free

i still sing along to this entire album
Don't ever ask me how I spent the only part of my life I liked, all locked away inside a bedroom
This has a new meaning these days...
2023 listening to this good stuff
2018 still banging this album, it's literally my #1
Just saw them live last night. Absolutely amazing

And Berry being the biggest punk crush I've had since Tom DeLong or, much later, Toby Foster
Get to see them and modern baseball in june, and in may it's the front bottoms
Seeing the same pair in Cincy this June.
+CrummyTV see ya there them man gonna be a good one
Was it tonight? Because I just got home from their show in St. Louis

2011 was the year
[Verse 1]
Stretching out cheap cotton over your thick skull
Oh, I do feel awful on the way to school
Can you picture my reaction to the word up on the wall?
Is there really something wrong with me?
[Verse 2]
Stretching out cheap cotton over your thick skull
I'm down here under the pavement so inept
Until I grab that pen beside you
Jam it into your eye
See, now you're my kind of man
Now you're a stand-up kind of guy
[Verse 3]
I am dying of embarrassment
I'm dying of this hatred
I can't rest until you know this bitterness that I have tasted
Such humiliation for the first and only time
I'm obsessed with your self-righteousness
Cut in half by your smile
[Chorus]
Into the night
You're getting harder to believe in
You're a cold and quiet paradise
Transfixed just by your breathing
Into the night
And you're the one thing I don't hate
You're a cold and quiet paradise
My only true escape into the night
[Outro]
Oh, oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh
Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
Love this whole album idk why they lost this sound.
this bands rawness reminds me of The Cribs

I get to go see these guys in a week and I'm so so so stoked

I cannot believe I caught them playing this album 10 years ago. Where does the time go?
Same here 🥲
love this album when im skating
is this a pop punk classic?
yes.
This is very good. Much better than most.
New find for me - been away for a while. 💌
I listen to this album everyday lol to clean to shower and when I'm in a bum mood :P I just let the whole album play through :)
Constant Headache is the bestest song evarr!
An incredibly solid album, reminds me of door county and a certain someone up there.
I don't understand how a band that calls themselves punk is gonna get pissed and threaten to stop the show when their fans dance too hard.
Chase Masterof Theuniverse tbh I lost respect for them when I saw that but I saw them headlining for Jeff rosendgock and holy were their fans wild I guess they didn’t feel like stopping in a big venue no stage diving but plenty of crowd surfing
all barry believed was that fans shouldn't have to leave his shows in ambulances and frankly he was right.
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SHIT
Great shit!
what is this beautiful new punk in my ears.

when u felling sad but still want to skate 80% better
Say them play a floor show at the Gilman in 2011. Perfection.
This album has so many feels that go along with it.

I'd really appreciate some time stamps in the description.
the pic of the album so good, are they?
Yes
Aw yeah, this some good stuff right here
they should make longer albums
Their little to no talent limit them.
Deep Frigid Winter
i like to think of it as short and sweet. like breaking your tooth on a jawbreaker. the feelings linger long after it's done

constant headache is such a good song, fuck
famous friend sounds a bit like the pepper-ann opening to me at some parts. I like that
They need to go on a tour fucking ASAP!!
I think the vocalist was just jealous that punk and hardcore shows are more fun with nonstop moshing and stage diving and knows they can't compete
That's got to be the funniest thing I've ever read.
Eddy Marquez Glad you enjoyed it!
+Benjamin H. Nobi mad that the person hurt somebody and didn't even care
You should buy the cd, regardless
hardhitting, pretty solid
+PC Disciple MORRISSEY!
