My parents have surroundsound speakers at their house, my dad used to CRANK the volume when this came on at the beginning of movies. The whole entire house would shake, and my mom and I would scream at him to stop 😂😂. He doesn't do it anymore for obvious reasons.
noelle elizabeth 🤣
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😅🤣😅🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
Is it because hes now dead.
Quattro 4 - Crawl back into your corner you piece of filth of a human being. I have spoken.
one good thing about this deep note is that it shows the audience what the current sound system is capable of doing in terms of the frequency range because the sound system demonstrates you the deep bass. It also prepares you to the volume level.
That's essentially its purpose. But in such a cool way!
After 40 years... Goodbye, THX and Razer. We'll missed you for me, Esteban Santibanez!
Every time someone says “thx” instead of “thanks,” I imagine this sound
Lol Omg 😂
Underrated comment
I died 😂
I send them the link to a THX video and they are confused-
@@awesomebloxyofficial simply uncultured
My daughter has autism and she is OBSESSED with listening to this sound over and over again. It’s relaxing to her for some reason so this is in the background of my life everyday 😂🎶
Got autism too and I found the deep note (and THX in general) to be straight up terrifying
I have autism as well and I find the Deep Note to encapsulate so many different sounds at once in a very satisfying and complete way. Hope this helps you better relate to your daughter.
when i was a kid and i heard it for the first time i just sat there with the biggest grin on my face I looked over at my dad and he had the same expression lol. by far the coolest sound ive ever heard
meseyc we'll i was relaxing that day when I was watching a movie called The Incredibles
Well, now I know who to thank for all the nightmares this gave me as a kid.
Sarah Barker SAME
Yes
Sarah Barker 😂😂
Same Sarah. Same.
Yep, us too.
Honestly the deep note feels amazing to me.
Aiden Mahoney me too
@@jerze103rd3 THX FOR WATCIING!
I love the THX Deep Note, it's one of the best and recognizable sounds I've ever heard!!! The newer version sounds MUCH cooler. :)
So, you are scared shitless of it, but in a good way?
Pokemario Fan I'm not scared of it. It just sounds a bit creepy in the beginning. :)
BryceFourn 2001 No way
Pokemario Fan IKR? I remember seeing the THX logo on the old Disney DVDs. :) *****
BryceFourn 2001 That was where i fist saw it, sitting in the living room of my babysitter, watching Snow White
The 40th Anniversary of THX really deserves me as I never forget of that Deep Note as he composed it the most important chime that the audience heard back in 1983…
As a little kid , I would call this " scary letters ! " My parents would have to fast forward through movies when we watched them at home .. but now that I'm much older I find it nostalgic and interesting ^^
Exactly it's scary but at the same time I miss it UwU
THX for this good documentary
I was so scared of this sound during my childhood that I still just naturally get intensely nervous chills every time I hear it.
Also, as a kid I thought I was the only kid in the world who was terrified of this! Nice to know I wasn't the only one
haha, same
it just gives me goosebumps and unnerves me now, but whenever i'd watch disney dvds, i'd always have to mute the tv and hide behind the couch
You and me both
Check your testosterone levels.
SAMEEEE the goosebumps I get r just the worst 😭💀
I love the sound.
As it peaks at full volume, you can't help but grin like a high teenager as the deep bass moves through your entire body.
proud to call this man a member of my family
am i the only one who thinks the THX sound sounds cool
It's the most awesome, incredible sound a machine has ever created.
No, it sounds REALLY cool
Nope
You must be crazy to think you're the only one.
I think people finding it cool is the whole reason it was used to advertise THX and why this video was made.
Ah yes, so this is the man who's responsible for my childhood PTSD
if it makes up for it, he's really nice
@@THXLtd
Okay...
You get a pass,
but remember, the audience is listening! 🧐
Remember trying to set up a movie in the middle of the night while everyone sleeps and forgetting to turn the volume down first. Lol now that's a crescendo
Andy Moorer: Creator of the #1 Nightmare for kids =3
+Yushiro Gowa That's right.
+Yushiro Gowa no.. this sound would always give me boners back in the days.. oh sweet nfsu2 how i miss you
O_O
+MrCojasviM THX GAME
o.o
I absolutely love the history of this particular note. I still remember back in the days everyone stayed so quiet when the THX intro came on. Marvelous!
I think it's great that this became a meme..... the deep note I mean.
Has it really? I feel like its just more nostalgic but it really hasnt become a mainstream meme
y r y'all salty they called it a meme
... THIS IS NO MEME!!! Reee!!!
This man is a synthesizer pioneer and the object of my nightmares since 2008
When I was a kid I played this in the middle of the night on full blast on my living room tv and ran straight to my room. Let’s just say my parents weren’t too happy
Whoa! That sure was loud, even if there are neighbors next door.
For me, the Deep Note went from being childhood fear to personal intrigue.
I am 44 years old. I still remember to this day the first time I heard the THX Deep Note before a movie. I don't remember what movie it was for. It was sometime in the mid 80's. And it changed my life. I almost, not totally, but almost didn't care about the movie coming up. I wanted to hear that again. Over the years I remember hearing it referred to as the THZ zoom or air raid. I am just now finding out that it is called the deep note. All that aside, to this day, I still get excited when that comes on. It is transcendent, and will always be one of the coolest sounds I have ever heard in my life.
It was a surprise to me to see all the people who are/were scared of it. It never struck as being scary, and until I saw these comments I would've never thought that. I wonder what causes that difference in how people experience it.
DattMougherty _ probably the way you heard it first. If it was on very loud speakers like in the movies it might have scared one because of its sudden appearance. It also has some similarities with fire alarms and other loud sirens. I used to get scared if there was a fire drill at school because of the sudden siren, but these days i love the sound because it holds alot of feelings. Kinda weird how sound works on people.
i remember when i first saw it was when i was around 4 or 5 and me and my family were watching the incredibles on our new surround sound system. the dvd we had of the incredibles had the 'cavalcade' logo on it which is probably one of the worst offenders in the thx line of logos. it didnt help that my dad decided to turn up the volume mid way through the logo, and ever since then i was scared of it.
now though, it really just unsettles me and gives me goosebumps, but the deep note is cool
fuck disney for putting it at the start of most of their home video releases between the 90's to 2007 though
DattMougherty _ maybe it’s because it sounds like a fucking ww2 bombing and a air raid siren
The first time I heard it, it scared me. But I didn't develop some phobia, later, I just got nervous when I heard it but the kind of nervous you get when someone tickles you. I liked it ever since! (I don't get nervous anymore, I just enjoy it, in case you were wondering)
The sound resembles the same sound you would hear before a jumpscare
I always got chills hearing this as a kid, so epic! Not part of the frightened club, I didn’t realize some people were frightened of this until I read the comments, so interesting.
Abe Simpson: Turn it up, turn it up...
The Audience _Was_ Listening
People this is what heaven sounds like and it is a constant note.
The rising tone activates the fight or flight instinct. That’s why most people feel on edge when listening to that sound.
Can you explain why?
I love THX Deep Note when I was a little kid. :)
Jason Runkle YOU DO?!
Joshua Roeser Its so epic! how can you be scared of it?
THX Giving people nightmares since 1981 or 1983
Andrew James 1983
How about 2007?
I use the THX intro as one of my tests whenever I deploy a surround system, never fails to impress.
Man, this guy is good.
This is the audio version of the Windows 7 start up screen.
Am I the only guy here who loved this as a kid rather than being scared by it...
Someone would say yes but I loved THX so much as a young kid.
It's scary to listen to the thx sound in da middle of the night
1 person won't sleep tonight. -Mickey Mouse
Gave me goosebumps before playing medal of honor when I was a kid
This still makes me cry
Istg same. This gives me the worst goosebumps and makes me cry. 😭💀
I’m surprised to find out people were scared of this sound. I always assumed everyone thought it was just a powerful and epic sound.
There's a reason LOL ! it came from a horror movie ! they ripped this off !
Thanks for giving me and a bunch of kids nightmares
Oh Andy, you have made a masterpiece. This sound is so synonymous with THX and it is the perfect sound for it. No other sound effect can replace the Deep Note.
HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY THX!!!
😂🎉
this sound always scared me as a kid. and I honestly cant hear it to this day, it still scares me
I definitely have THXphobia and I've had it since I was a little infant. Every detail about it terrified me and scared me to death. I too would run out of the room, except I would also close my eyes and ears, Scream, squeal, and shake really badly. one thing in particular was TEX the robot making an appearance; even for a second. I still get deeply disturbed by every detail of that robot! I hope I'm not the only one!
i used to get scared by it, but one day i just sat down and watched the deep note unfold on one of my dvds and kinda just got over my fears. still gives me nervous chills but i'm pretty ok with it now.
moral of the story : face your fears
Don't worry you are not the only one, that logo scared me ever since I first heard it in the movie theater when I was little in the early 2000s (like around 2001 or 2002)
Same here. I avoided movie theaters until sometime after 2000 because I thought it would be there to traumatize me.
TEX terrified me as a kid so much.
Ok you're lying now to get liikes
Bring it back
BRING IT BACK PLZ
BRING IT BACK
WE NEED MORE TEX THE ROBOT
WE NEED MORE THX SOUND SYSTEM STUFF
PLEASE GEORGE LUCAS PLEASE
I was scared of this. I used to get out of my bedroom when i was watching the jungle book VHS so i would not hear it but now I'm not scared of it anymore☺
THX Ltd I like all your different deep notes and they sound so great and I will always listen to it
This used to scare me when I was a kid, and now it’s mesmerizing and nostalgic
I’m still rocking my THX Certified Logitech Z 5300e and Klipsch Pro Medias. Got one in the living room and one in my office. I’ll never give them up. Perfect sound in my opinion.
Well, you just mastered the art of traumatizing children.
Finally I got some deeper explanation about those particular ambivalent feels, I first had as a child, when I watched my very first VHS cassette of the movie "Independence Day", that I could afford, by saving some pocket money. Very well crafted, Mr. Moorer.
Not gonna lie. I found that really satisfying to hear as a kid.
I was so very scared as a kid when this sound came on
I love this sound!
Andy Moore was the director for THX
I love how the beatles' song a day in the life inspired this sound. Cheers to the geniuses that brought color to our lives or in my case trauma to my childhood lol.
You guys didn't explain how it is made the chord & didnt even play it at the end smh
it's just octaves and fifths stacked around 3 octaves and the highest note is somewhere between a small and a big third
so it's basically a D (in some versions E) major chord that is also kind of a minor chord at the same time but actually none of either really, which imo is possibly the real reason it sounds so weird
here's the sheet music

Yeah…this just talked about the sound without actually explaining the sound…lol
This is so amazing. Very great work!
the deep note is like welcome to hell I am scared of the deep note
Vincent Munoz this is hell
Istg same
I wish this was one of my childhood nightmares...
Dark and mysterious in the sense that it'll probably scare you away instead of captivate you.
I actually love this sound, It didn't scare me as a kid, I've always loved it.
I like the deep note too because it is great.
It’s more deafening then it was scary to me
you alien
The orchestral crescendo during The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" served as this jingle's inspiration.
This makes me so happy and tantalizes my brain. 😁
I love Deep Note, but living in the UK I never hear it anymore in cinemas. I miss Deep Note. I would love to hear it in an Atmos studio.
THX you for unforgettable childhood sound or should it just say
hhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmahammaamammmmmmmfhMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmm

"The sound of Terror".....
Happy 40th birthday THX 🎂 🥳 🎉
Coolest sound EVER
I used to get freaked out with that sound when I was a kid. 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the behind-the-scenes about this iconic sound!
BTW, starting at 2:39: DIY Perks, anyone?
The audience is listening.
The audience are no longer listening.
Now that I’m looking back at it I actually appreciate how he made the deep note and I’m no longer afraid of it
The Deep Note, the THX sound trademark, is known for giving children nightmares when the trailer appeared on Disney's children's DVD's. These THX trailers, especially the Eclipse trailer, makes this one a candidate to the loudest cinema trailers ever, along with DTS "The Digital Experience" trailer. Despite that, the Deep Note is a cool and epic sound you'll hear in the THX Theater.
Am I the only one who liked this sound as a kid because IK it meant a good movie was coming?
Very cool.
The origin of the thx sound appears in the 1979 movie When a Stranger Calls at about 12 and a half minutes into the movie
I noticed this to👍👍
when do they say about the THX logo giving children nightmares, or they discover that the THX logo is the King of the scary movie logos
My 2001 VHS release of The Princess Diaries had the original iconic THX Deep Note sound (Broadway variation) intact
I can't believe that no sound engineer youtuber made a 20 minutes long video about why this sound is a meme.
I really appreciating for this sound system THX ALWAYS BEST😎😎😎😎
I always thought this sound was pretty neat
Can someone please make shortcuts if the deep note plays, make them after the deep note plays
you just inspired me to generate sawtooth waves to make a harmony of voices
I have recreated that magnificent sound effect with my synthesizer.
Wow the THX logo sounds pretty loud but I love it with Dr Andy moorer
Its Dr Andy mooner
I don't know.
Was It really that loud in the cinemas?
Function over form but the form is essential to the function.
Spine tingling stuff.
Now this background sound come from behind me with headphone
I am curious if Dr. Moorer had heard of electronic music pioneers Paul Beaver and Bernie Krause. They came up with the sweeping-oscillators-into-a-chord motif back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. A 1970 album of theirs, "In A Wild Sanctuary", had a song called "Spaced" that used that sonic effect at the end of the song. Could that be considered "prior art"?
Gary Rydstrom is a Sound Design God.
Well we found the crew who scared us
THX the audience is now deff
THX
Whatever happened to THX Certification??? I used to pick the Laserdiscs with that as I knew they would have incredible sound quality?
THX Certification is still around and it's on so much more than laserdiscs now

The Deep Note: Scientifically Satisfying.
THX deep note is gotta be one part in The THX sound system that works in a part of 3.1 mix of surround sound no joke
Now that was interesting.
