The problem with modern tennis games is that they value animation over gameplay. Tennis Elbow truly is the best tennis game of the century, other good ones are Mario Tennis, Super Tennis (SNES), Top Spin 3 and Super Blast Tennis, all of them require tweaking of settings to get it right. I’ve played just about every tennis game in existence, and the key problem is that net play is completely overpowered while baseline play is underpowered. All of them have strengths and weaknesses but if you tweak Twnnis Elbow on Tour mode to have juuuust the right settings and difficulty for the CPU, you’ll get quite a lot of hours out of it. I would play it to relax and watch some shows almost every afternoon for about 5 years.

The most annoying thing about this game for me is that it's so unforgiving when you don't hit a shot with the right power. I lose games on career mainly just due to the fact that the ball constantly goes out of bounds because I hit it with the slightest wrong amount of power. So frustrating.
Push back on the stick it will slowly it down. Or is this wrong?

I agree with all of this, I only picked up AO Tennis 2 recently and Its really is the best current tennis game available..
Tennis World Tour 2 and its auto swing mechanic is so incredibly bad..
Tennis has one thing, hit the ball with the racquet, and they took that away..
When I play tennis I want my player to swing when I press a button, not to swing on his own accord and my timing input is the only thing that matters.
AO Tennis 2 will kind of begin a swing the same sort of way but still gives the player more of the feeling that they have carried out this action themselves, as well as very much allowing for more movement and positioning on the way to the swing..
Tennis World Tour 2 is disgustingly restrictive and It saddens me that the Top Spin team made it…
My 3 favorite sports are , Football(Soccer), Boxing and Tennis. We have a couple soccer games i can play like Fifa or Pes, but Boxing and Tennis doesn’t get much attention until recently.
Is it better on switch compared to PS4? It feels broken on PS4, too often it will not respond when I hit a ball ( character doesn’t even move ) , the aiming spot disappears ... very frustrating.
Umm...don't think they went "back to the drawing board" just to improve a few things...Sketchup is not expensive to use...
is there any replay with some camera angel and camera tracking/following the ball? also other tennis games like Tennis Elbow? TE is not good annimation
It bothers me that all non-flat shots appear to have weird swerves. It's almost like the ball is being pulled by magnets.

I agree. The simulation of sound and ball physics feel amazing. You can even request a number of Hawk-Eye and also react negatively or respectfuly at the end of each point. The only flaw that i really felt was (as everyone says) the incapability of reaching some hard balls, or the player just staying instead of hitting it, sometimes. But at the end, the sensation is pretty authentic, as there's a certain difficulty in each strike (kind of like in real tennis). There are a lot of unforced errors until you learn how to hit it correctly, at the right time, with the right power, and at the right direction, EVERYTIME. It feels like real tennis. We only need another more polished sequel.

Just tried AO2 on PC apart from above commentary i must commend for dev who kept a lot of score, lineman and challenge system intact. First I dived in career mode and try to get used to it.
Took me likes 1 - 2 hours. I will break down my POV with this game with categories.
- Movement to return the ball
Just like in IRL tennis match you need to run or stand in most strategic position on court to able to rush to ball that coming from any direction. Mostly center of court or center of left/right back zone. Which you can make a decision by looking at direction or movement of opponent that will return the ball to you (If you can't stand or find that position you really need strong leg works to rush to ball in time to do a perfect stroke without unforced error)
- Play style and BOT decision
I just learned that opponent bot studying with my play style after awhile. I keep hitting ball to left or right in the corner of court till opponent losing their timing and using sharp volley or smash to prevent them from return the ball. But in next match bot trying to do the same and even counter me with LOB or slice shot. (IRL I also using that play style and rarely using LOB or drop ball because I got very high chance to make unforced error with that kind of shot)
- Unforced Error
I really love this kind of stuff. IRL match I make unforced error alot exp.
Return the ball with wrong part of the racket (LOL) make the ball go out of the court or hit the net.
Serving with incorrect stroke movement and make the ball fly in another direction or even hit the net (happen a lot in slice and top spin serve).
So this system make me having fun with match in game.
That's all my part that i got from the game within 1 - 2 hours feel free to correct my grammar or whatever is incorrect with these comment. :)

TopSpin 4 still remains the best tennis game ever! A bit of tweaks and additions here &there and there you are! It had the best gameplay. It seemed realistic!

Smahs court tennis 2 will always be my favorite tennis game, the game play was solid. And the unlock able characters was fun.

Honestly most of the game play issues you mention are because you're picking the wrong location to stand and return balls from. Also, diving is in the game. Just doesnt happen to often.

The player movement remains poor despite numerous updates , the volley animations are a joke , and the rallies are extremely repetitive. The one part I agree with is that its the best tennis game but thats just because theres only 1 other and its even worse.
In my opinion I could easily do with the graphics. It is just right - not great but just right. I see more fluidity in the movement. What I miss from Top Spin 4 the most, aside from literally EVERYTHING, is the character customization - the points and coaching system as well as the character's personality and style. Yet that would be nothing without the gameplay mechanics and its fluidity. Sure, sometimes Andy Murray literally teleported towards the ball and things like that but the overall experience was very, very consistent. I'm just rambling at this point. Just remaster Top Spin 4, thanks.

I haven't played this, but I have played Madden, and if you think that it's rubbish and you are as into tennis as you are into football then you will find that this game is alot further away from tennis than Madden is from football!

Career mode is honestly the most fun I’ve ever had playing a tennis game. The atmosphere is remarkable. It is a couple wonky animations but there are always several that are lifelike in its beauty. And the soundtrack is simple amazing. Why aren’t the artists names attatched to the songs? If I was the artist that would be mandatory,.
The AI is the best I’ve ever seen in a tennis game. The third time will be the charm for this game and probably a masterpiece. They honestly need more licensed players and venues (especially the slams). And commentary.

Hard times to be a sports gamer...I mean, I'm upset 'cause if you want something deeper and simlike style everything feels pretty poor...I would like to have, like simracing do have, options like Assetto Corsa or Iracing but in tennis and NFL...for example, FIFA machanics are trash, NBA has become a cassino, Madden no mather what they say, it's still glitchy and running and tackling it's feel just so wrong.. anyway good video!

just from watching movement has no weight looks like players are skating not running, shots are twitchy (especially slice) it seems hard for devs to chain fluid body movement with a swing,also every player has generic forehand/backhand (just some animations appear different) it's a Virtua Tennis on steroids bscly..faces are god damn awfull to be blunt,on some ps3 shit..lack of licensed gear/tournaments/players..waste of assets on dumb story stuff they took from NBA games..like theres a lot of stuff that is wrong with this game,dare i say Top Spin 1 was better in almost 90% stuff that you want to see from tennis game

5:43 2 to 3 minutes to load a match?? Holy shit that alone makes me not buy this game
it's a buggy broken mess. the ai is unreal. you can hit a ball deep, then a drop shot at the net, but it still will be able to run up and get it.. other times, if the ai is out of position, it will teleport to the shot to make sure it gets the ball back. I'm not kidding. also, it's hell bent on not losing 6-0. it will do whatever it can to ensure it wins the next game. I've seen this time and time again.. let it win the game, and the next game is easy to win for 6-1. there's a pattern to the AI where all the characters basically play the same. run up to the net, and it will pretty much always lob you.. to a ridiculous amount.. if it goes far to the right or left, it will hit up the line this arched shot, which is impossible to hit.. anything to win. I'm playing on medium difficulty.. not hard.. it's an absolute mess and needs fixed. why is it so hard to make a good tennis game these days?

It almost seems as tennis as a videogame culture is dead!! I mean, neither ao tennis 2 or tennis world tour 2 does deliver more than topspin 4 did all those years ago, and it’s a shame. I would like a big studio to make a new tennis sim, because these new titles a dreadful! Sure, some graphics are crisp but animations and overall presentation is really bad for a tennis title in 2021! And they expect us to swallow that bait and pay full price for indie titles! No thanks

This tennis game is awful, gameplay sucks big time! Lots of unwarranted faults, even for a veteran tennis player (in real life *and* on PC), it is impossible to master the moves, and AI is always perfect! Come on...
This is discrimination on the face, Simona Halep does not configure anywhere in AO Tennis or in AO Tennis 2
