    Nice collection! I used to have problems with my butane lighters as well, but then I learned that you have to bleed them out before re-filling them. You do that by pressing down the filling nozzle on the lighter with something like a toothpick. You do this until it stops hissing. Then you can fill it again. It's air that prevents the butane from entering the lighter.
    Hope it helps.

    Cool video. I bought one of my brothers a Zippo with New Zealand embossed on it before he moved over to Australia last year.
    They're one of those things that are great as gifts or to mark an occasion. You can look at them years later and still recall the story behind them.

    I remember those Zippo Car tins/lighters. While I was going to school in Detroit, I worked at a local tobacconist for several years between 2000-2005, and one year for an annual classic car event called the Woodward Dream Cruise on Woodward Ave, Zippo sent a rep out to our shop, and he pulled onto the lot driving the actual Zippo Car and parked it out front of the store for everyone to look at and take pictures, etc. We nearly emptied the 2 Zippo display cases full of Zippo lighters before the day was up. Smart company, legendary lighters.

      An amazingly simple, but well thought out device with a service program that can't be matched. In theory, you never need to buy another one, but it's no fun having just one!

      Absolutely. I know guys who are always on the lookout for Zippo stuff, especially vintage. Made in USA - Lifetime Warranty. Not too many products that offer those two things anymore.

    @Matches860 Yes, some lighters need a special adapter, but those usually comes with the can of butane? Well, they do over here at least.
    The strange thing is that 95% of my lighters can be filled with the standard nozzle on the can.
    Well, hope you'll be able to sort it out, and thanks for sharing your collection.

    Nice display. Those old cigarette promotional lighters from the 1950's and 60's are still so cool to see. I remember them well. Thanks for sharing.

    @thepipelounge Thanks for watching! That lighter is my favorite, but it never leaves the house...I lost it for several hours at work one day right after I got it.

    I had a permanent match lighter like yours which was purchased at a store called "Pier One Imports" in the late 60's early 70's. Mine had a peace sign on it. I don't have it anymore...and I can't remember if it had cotton inside of it or not. I always had trouble getting it to light. Very cool to see one of these again!

    Nothing like a Zippo. I use butane lighter for cigars and haven't had much problem. I like car zippo. I remember when those came out.

    Very nice collection. All my lighters are fill 'er up yourself butane & one needs an adapter to fill it. It came with my can of butane & its a little silicone circular ring of different sized adapters. Maybe that's what you need in order to fill some of those.

  • @Matches860
    @Matches860  13 років тому

    @41DegreesSouth Good point! A plain Zippo tends to get lost in the shuffle.

  • @Matches860
    @Matches860  13 років тому

    @Flieger671 I agree! I tried & was able to purge the lighter, but it still won't fill. I could have a bad can, or as someone suggested, I need a special adapter.

    Hi John...I know this video is from 2011 and probably in the meanwhile you got your answer about how to work your "permanent matches"...but I can't see an answer to that in the comments so...here I am...
    It seems to me that the "needle" that you take off from the upper part is simply a flint that you have to use like you use matches along the inside of the carved line on the side to get sparkles to start a fire...no lighter fluid or anything else required...
    Thank you for sharing your videos and your nice collection...

    • @Matches860
      @Matches860  7 років тому +2

      The inside has a cotton wadding to take lighter fluid which keeps the "match" moist. It works well!

    matches you have to bleed the butane lighters basically you push the insert pin and it let's out all the air inside that's why butane won't fill in In the tank its filled with 100% air

    • @Matches860
      @Matches860  7 років тому

      My can of fuel does not mention pushing down the nozzle. Found a small tool to fit it that little hole to push the little pin...that's a waste of time LOL

    • @SoCal9705
      @SoCal9705 6 років тому

      Try using a T pin is best. I had the same issue, you can get air lock and the lighter doesn't work, but if you invert it (and i like to tap it to get any air bubbles in the tank rise to the top) then release that valve with the pin and you should hear air passing out. When it sprays you're into the butane so stop. Let it dry out a minute before lighting , and it should work fine. You have to do this even after filling with butane bc it seems some air gets in there. I was surprised you don't have a Colibri like i do, which i like.

    I just came across this video of your's, I have one of the Winston select lighters myself. I also have a Winston select Schrade folding belt knife. I suppose it made it feel like smoking cigs was not so bad if you got free stuff. Ha Ha Ha

    • @Matches860
      @Matches860  6 років тому +1

      I would have loved the knife! Those lighters are actually cheap knockoffs, but nobody knows the difference when you're using them.

    • @backwoodspiper1705
