Dad should have his own channel! I could listen to his stories forever.your mom is a beautiful lady.
Ditto
Your mom’s smile when your dad was talking about singing and courting. Sweet love.
I was just going to comment on that. That sweet look brought tears to my eyes.
I love your mom's smile when your dad talked about singing. She may not talk a lot right now but she remembers your dad's wonderful stories. Your children will love to see these stories when they get older.
Imagine a home of 23 children……incredible. What an amazing insight into your parents life. So interesting ❤.
I want to tell you how much I have enjoyed listening to your parents tell their stories about their lives! It has been incredibly inspiring to hear you all sing. Thank you all for sharing your lives together. ❤️
Hi Grampa, I know your reading this, I love your stories and could listen to you all day, God bless you and Grandma!!
Thank you Mum and Dad. You moved my heart. I am an 70 year old woman from Sweden. Your familys videos has helped me a lot. I am so thankful for you telling us about your life, so different from mine. I would like to hear more from you, in the future. One thing we share is the loss of children. I have lost two sons. I also had difficulty crying. But I cried when I listened to you sharing your grief. Your wife makes beautiful quilts. I understand her difficulties crying. Thank you once again. Hope you and your wife are well. 🙏
Thank you Helen for sharing! Peace be on you and so sorry to hear about the loss of your sons. Blessings ❤️
Mr & Mrs Miller, You have a beautiful understanding of Gods Merciful Grace. I too have had similar losses & tragedies in my 73yrs. of life. It was only through our families deep faith in Our Lord that we were able to accept and continue through our earthly life, knowing that someday we will all be together again. GOD Bless You & Yours. You should be so very proud of your family. See you all next week! 🙏❤️🙏
Thanks for the complement even though we do not deserve it only the one that put us here in the first place deserves the credit yet if he lives in us we can all receive of his blessings
L
What a blessing to still have your parents in this realm! You look so much like your dad! Love hearing the stories your dad told!
Your parents are precious! I could listen to them both talk for hours.
This interview is so precious! Thank you Joas for thinking to do this. I do enjoy hearing your parents stories. My Mom is 88 and she always tells me her stories and when she's finished she will ask me if I have them memorized yet. Then she laughs. I tell her yes that I will be able to pass them on. Love your parents for as long as they live. God bless Leona too.
Ora and Orpha, I definitely enjoy hearing you share stories of your life! My dad was your cousin- Harley Hochstetler (Jerome’s). I honestly would love to visit you! 💕. My husband and I are no longer Amish- therefore I appreciate the connection you keep with your children, we don’t have that. I hope Orpha will continue to heal! Leona, blessings to you as you serve in love.
How precious Joas, thank you for sharing these years with your Mom an Dad for us... love, love this, a lot, brings back a lot of good memories...I remember your Mom being very active an a hard worker, an I know your Dad was a hard worker as well, God bless you them an your family.....safe travels to Israel...
Wow, it’s amazing that you sound just like your father, voice and some of your saying! Your blessed to have both of your parents, my father passed away 13 years ago at 69, I was 45! Bless you and your family! Love hearing stories! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
you are truly blessed to sit with your parents and talk about their lives. I envy you
I just love hearing your dad's stories! Something about him reminds me of my own dear father who loved telling stories also.
Your father and mother are beautiful examples of enduring love. Another comment said how Mrs. Orpha smiled at the mention of their courting days and I noticed that as well. I saw another video with your brother taping Mrs. Orpha when she was quilting a most beautiful quilt and she said that " I would not like to have this quilt". I've wondered why she felt that way? I love to make quilts and admire anyone who dedicates their time working on them. Give us more of Mr. Ora and Mrs. Orpha!!
Mom is very particular about her colors, and if they aren’t the way she likes them she would rather not own them :-)
@@MontanaHaven Thank you, I understand better now!
Dad, you are an amazing father and husband. May God bless you and yours until the day you go home. I would love to hear Leona'' stories of growing up Amish. Your Father's smile is so heartwarming! Patiently waiting for Episode 3!!
I think many of us admire the Amish and want to know more about them. I come to watch Montana Haven to escape life in the modern world. I’m 86 and I have many projects going, too. We are blessed to still be able to do many things.
Joas your parents are very lovely people. I enjoyed hearing their stories. Thank them for sharing.
Our pleasure!
How very special your parents are! You’re very blessed to have such a solid family. They’re a sweet couple and I would love to see more of them.
These are great folks. I could listen all day. God truly lives in them.
It is an honor to be able to listen to an elder speak !!! The only thing that could be better is to be able to sit with you sir in person!!! I thank you for sharing !!! What a wonderful God we have !!! Such a blessing that she is getting better and better !! Your moms quilt was absolutely beautiful!! She is so very gifted ! Thank you again so very very much !!! We all need the wisdom and love from our Christian elders !!! God bless !!! ❤
Love listening to your Parents beautiful stories. Such wonderful people and I am so glad that hey still have each other and their wonderful family.
Thank you for telling these incredible stories. The story of Vernon is amazing that he had such a longer life than what was expected and that he couldn't cry because his breathing was too taxed. He was so blessed to have parents like you❣️ Your family is a real testament to me seeing God's work carried out in your lives. It gives me much strength to live by God's Word while going through life's trials. Thank you so much❣️🤗🙏👑
I greatly appreciate your story. I can really relate to a lot to this lifestyle.
Come from a Mennonite background. My difference came in the healing part of Jesus teachings, which was not being taught, as being revalant today.
I greatly appreciate that you have kept the plain clothes. That is what we would like to do also, but desire to have the whole gospel teaching of Christ.
God bless❤ I got Jesus in my heart
The songs are a blessing ❤
We love visiting and chatting with you, Ora and Orpha. You are family to us. We miss you all! Looking forward to returning in May. Also looking forward to your next book! Sending love and blessings to you. ❤
Mr and Mrs. Miller, Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. You both are a blessing to your family and I pray God will keep you both healthy and happy for many many more years to come. Also it is such a blessing to have your daughter live there and help take care of you. She will have many jewels added to her heavenly crown because of it. Joas I am so enjoying watching your UA-cam channel. May God bless your entire family. TFS. Debbie from NC
Really enjoyed listening to your dad and mom sharing their lives with us ❤ You are so blessed to have such awesome parents!!!
God bless all of you always 🙏
Your parents are so cute, the way they look at each other and support each other. They remind me so very much of my parents. Mom broke her hip and was in the hospital. She had to take off her jewelry when they admitted her, and I was the keeper of the ring. I gave it back to her after her surgery, and she and dad had a little "wedding ceremony" and he put it back on her finger. They were married 65 years. We lost mom 7 years ago and dad just this last April. He was a Godly man like your dad. Having such wonderful parents is a great heritage and a precious gift from the Lord.
I live in northern Michigan (East Jordan) and drive for the Amish in our community. I’ve driven Albert and Laura Miller ( and others) to LeRoy several times and once took Laura and the girls to Middlebury, Indiana. I’ve mentioned to them that I watch Montana Haven on UA-cam. We were at Albert and Laura Miller’s store earlier today and my wife and I count them as our friends. I know that they are related to your family. God Bless you.
Your singing was heavenly! I loved hearing your Mom and Dad's stories! What a tragedy that they lost two children! Joas they raised you to be a wonderful man with your own wonderful family. I was raised on a farm in Michigan so I know how cold it gets in the winters there. We raised cattle and pigs and crops, oats, wheat, corn, and alfalfa hay. It was hard work as we had a large garden too. So, much of the food we ate we raised. Our family was larger too, there were 5 of us kids. We weren't Amish, my mom and us kids were Catholic but my dad was church of Christ. It was a great life, oh we also owned a few horses, grade at first, then registered Quarter Horses.
Your dad is a wonderful story teller! My grandmother also made quilts back in the day. I have 2 of them now. One quilt she made had the state of Idaho on it with a lot things on it that Idaho is known for, Potatoes, Rain, Corn, etc. Each item was in what you might call 3-D. For instance the corn was made with yellow fluff balls, leaves that felt and looked like the real thing, and strings that looked like corn silk. She did this because her husband had gone blind but could tell what each thing was. She entered that quilt in 2 different quilt show and won first and second place respectively. Think you for share more about your family. So sorry for the loss of your brother at such a young age.
What a blessing for you to have your parents with you. I lost my mom when she was 49 and then I lost my dad when he was 79. He was truly a blessing to have around. He served the Lord until he went with his Savior. ❤️🙏
Love the stories with the parents, God bless you all.
We love listening to your parents stories!!! They’re so inspiring! The love between them is so evident. Ora and Orpha ,we pray blessings over your lives and the remaining years before you get to join our Savior! ❤ We enjoy hearing your stories and look forward to your next book. -Lavon and Marla Miller
Your parents are precious! ❤️ I love hearing their stories just as I love hearing my parents & grandparents stories. Love hearing y'all sing too. Thank you for your service Ora, my grandfather served (US Army) in the Korean War too. Your mother's quilts beautiful such a treasure to whoever ever bought it. Such a blessing... God bless you all!
Your parents are such incredible God serving parents. You are all blessed to have these strong Christian leaders in your family.
I admire your faith!
And your dad is a wonderful story teller.
My dad was a great story teller and he left us 12 years ago, so I love spending time with your dad 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Your mother is a sweet kind soul 🙏🏻
Just watched this. I thank you for sharing your time and interesting history. I live in the middle of Kansas. My father was of German decent and my mother of Czech. I grew up the youngest of 6 and my mother was 43.5 years old when I was born. Grew up on a half section farm that was homesteaded by my great grandparents on my mothers side. I was the last of the 4th generation to grow up there. The farm is still in the family but no one has lived there since my parents had to leave due to health and mobility issues in December of 2006. My mother was over 30 when she and dad married June 12, 1946. Dad was 25 years old and was drafted into WWII and served in the Army Air Courps in England from August 1941 till after end. Shipped home in December 1945. Their 1st child Victor was stillborn in September of 1947. My oldest sister was born just days short of 1 year later. She was followed by next sister in June 1950, next boy in September 1952 then last boy in May 1954. I joined in June 1959. I was almost born in the wheat harvest field. Spent almost every birthday until I was 20 in the harvest field. My parents are both gone with my mom passing in December 2008 just less than 2 months shy of 93. Dad joined her end of August just 5 days less than 89. I loved farm life and was much a tomboy. Worked in the fields with my dad but also did all the laundry each week, cleaned the house and cooked with my mom. Hard work and common sense served me well as God blessed me with 3 stair steps sons. (2 of my sons are older than Jois and my youngest was born in 1981. I too have morned loss. My 1st grand baby only lived 55 minutes then went on the Jesus loving arms. I also have a miscarried grandchild. But I am blessed with 6 grands and a great grand daughter that was 1 year old in September. Must close as I have written a book here. God’s blessings on all of you each and every day.
Thanks for sharing!!❤️
Thank your parents for allowing us to know and understand them and their relationship to the Mennonite’s. I have always had a great interest in religion, even if it differs from my own view point. My grandfather lost both parents by age 5. He was born in 1901. Bless those who helped your mother and family after her loss. So happy your mom is better after her injury. Thank you Joas for caring that much! You and Priscilla are great examples for others. God, love, marriage and then a family make for beautiful lives. ❤ 📖 👩🏻❤️👨🏻👨👨👧👩👩👧👧👨👩👦👦👨👨👧👨👩👦👦
You are so blessed to have your beautiful parents with their love for you and each other’s. I would love to see your mom’s quilts. I really really enjoyed all of your Dad’s stories, so fun to hear about their lives. God will take care of them while you are gone, I am sure they will miss you as well.
Thanks for all you have shared. God’s best to you all and to your parents too❤️🙏🤗

Your Dad is extremely awesome Man ❤
I enjoyed the songs ! Songs i heard on cassettes back in the 70 s n 80 s. These stories are priceless! I gave my parents books to record stories probably 15 years ago but not sure they are getting it done so this gives me an idea to video them sometime during storytelling to preserve for future generations! God bless Ora & Orpha and Leona as well.
You have lovely parents , I love to listen to the old story , it makes me think about my mom God rest her soul , she was born in 1921 she lived during the depression time her mom Olive loss a few children because of not having the right food . I love that you share your parents' stories. One day they won't be here and it'll be beautiful to look back on all their stories that are on video. I loved the singing!
Thank you for sharing a part of your life with us, I thought you did a great job especially about how you met. Your service to our country is very much admired and appreciated. It is very heartwarming to me that you all have each other to share wisdom, stories, experiences and time to enjoy and be with each other. Cherished moments what a blessing. 200 chickens you're a busy man, but obviously keeps you strong and healthy. I would love to see photos of some of your quilts Mrs. Miller what a special gift and a lot of work. I sent a prayer up for you both God Bless and stay warm!!! This is an extremely cold week that's coming, but thankful for a wonderful October.
This video was priceless. Your parents are so precious, Thank you for sharing them with us. Loved the singing. Made my heart so happy. 🤗
Your history is so interesting. Keep telling your stories and may Yeshua bless you all richly❣️🥰💕🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕
Your parents testimony of love and facing such adversity simply just brings us closer to God. As if he had this plan all along. We are in the audience as listeners and I cannot express enough how this wonderful impact is on our hearts and lives. You include us, just as God would. With respect and great admiration we wholeheartedly Thank You for sharing your lives and especially sharing your parents lives.
Respectfully, Julie
So sorry for Leona’s loss of her husband. I know her being with your parents is a huge blessing for them. I’m guessing that being close to her parents has helped her with her grief as well. That’s what family is for. What a courageous young woman she was for standing with her husband as he went through his illness. So sorry for your parents loss of their young son, and all the anguish they went through seeing him get better and then having to see him go. How amazing that the neighbor had the breathing machine that helped him. Vernon definitely had a special place in God’s heart from the beginning. We’ll be amazed one day when we get there and get our answers.
It is so special to hear your family praisesof the Lord in song together. It just lifts me up every time.
Praising God as a family strengthens the family and their faith.
I love your dads comment about “sneaking a look with his eyes”. Bless his heart. ❤️ Looking forward to his next book. Like my dad says, “I have to stay busy with projects or I’ll just sit here and get old!”
Beautiful loving family.
Your comment in regards to sneaking a look yes I will never forget her weak and guilty yet. Understanding smile that smile has helped to keep us together to this day
God bless you both! Loved the music. A song in your heart for Jesus is what keeps you hopeful through so many hardships. Mr. Miller, I’ve ordered your book and look forward to hearing your wisdom. My grandparents on my dad’s side both were raised in Russian Mennonite Brethren families in California. I have many precious memories of my grandparents speaking low German to each other. Grandma was the most amazing cook. I can still see her hands kneading bread, and rolling out noodles. Her sweibachs were the best! Gramps would crack walnuts for hours to get the meats out for Grandma’s baking. They both grew the most beautiful gardens. Grandma canned so many delicious foods. Her apricot jam was legendary. Gramps could build anything, and lead the building of their church in his retirement. Their prayers for us are still a comfort, as we remember them. My grandma was in a quartet and sang at their church. I thank the Lord for my heritage and Godly grandparents, and now my parents pray faithfully for my children and grandchildren. Thankful for their example and love for us.
Thank you Mr and Mrs Miller. I enjoyed today's episode even more than the first one. You are very kind to share stories about your life. I look forward to hearing more stories.
You are so much like your father, it’s just amazing to see. I love him and her and adore the videos they are in. I will buy his book
Such a precious Dad!
God bless your parents!
Thanks for sharing your stories. It’s very special to see the love between the two of you! And hugs to your daughter Leona! God bless you big time for honoring your parents💕
Thank you for sharing your fathers story, I can't imagine the pain of losing a child, so sad.
The harsh reality of living in those days as your parents did! My Dad delivered me when I was born prematurely in remote area. He delivered my twin brothers also but they passed away within 12 hours! There’s so many stories like this that our parents & grandparents went through, even some of us! God bless your folks, yourself and your wife and children❤️🙏🏽
Thank you for sharing. Love your UA-cam handle as well!
I'm new to watching your channel. I want to become Amish because I love the family unity. I like how you support your wives and how you raise the children. I live in California.
You can follow Christ wherever you are! Amish don’t have it all together either! Blessings!
Oh I just love the singing
you have still that gift to talk to your parents, enjoy every day where you can do this, god bless you all.
This was a lovely vlog. Joas, your parents are interesting and wonderful. You are so lucky to still have them. Both of my dear parents are gone now, and I miss them so much. I miss just sitting with them, hearing their voices, listening to them talk, and talking with them, just as you did in this vlog with your parents. My mother was a master at knitting, crocheting, and sewing. She was a great cook. She also had a beautiful garden. My father was strong and was a craftsman. He was a painter by trade. He painted new apartments for me on more than one occasion. He refinished furniture. He planted and tended to vegetables in their garden. He was interested in history, and both he and my mother loved books and reading. They were people of faith. Your vlog brought up my memories of them.
You brought back some great and sad memories of my childhood and growing up! My dad was a immigrant from Holland and came to America when he was 7! He was born in 1894! He served in WW1 in France! He didn't marry until he 45. I was born when he'd turned 58, youngest of 6! They spoke low German at home and learned English at school! He always had a accent to the day he passed at 91 just short of his 92nd birthday!
Wow incredible story!
Love the stories!! We need the stories of our elders so we can learn and prepare for life. How we live now is ridiculously easy compared to how the way they lived. I so appreciate his service to our country. Thank you for sharing your life with us. We love your son and his family and love watching him build his cabin. I love hearing how dad taught him things with the cabin build or how he pioneered the window slides. SOO appreciate you all. My son and his 5 children live in Anchorage and we live in UT so we miss them terribly. So seeing the AK countryside makes my heart happy. Thank you all.
🙏🏼❤️❤️
You are such a blessed Family I love listening to your parents talk . To live threw the death of 2 children must have been so hard on them my father and mother have passed on but I miss them so much Blessings
When you spoke of moving to Alaska, that the hardest part was leaving your aging parents, I could really relate to that. I'm from Canada and married an American 6 years ago. My Mom went to be with Jesus 1 year ago, after battling Alzheimer's for 7 years. That was a really difficult time in my life.
🙏🏼🤗❤️
How wonderful to hear and see your beautiful family........We know the goodness of our God our Father as he is faithful toward us his children....thank you Ora and Orpha for sharing your lives with us.....Praise the Lord now and forever.....love in Christ Sherril....
I enjoyed this immensely. What precious people! I’m praying for Orpha to get stronger and stronger. I so enjoyed the stories and your father is such a captivating story teller. His memory is incredible; even specific dates and details. I was so moved by the story of Vernon. God granted a little more time. What a blessing.
What a beautiful family ! Your channel" Montana Haven" is a breath of fresh air ! I look forward to all your videos.
Wow, what a great conversation. Your parents are beautiful people, I enjoyed getting to know them. I raised my kids in South Bend/Mishawaka, very close to where they grew up. I felt so sad that they had to experience the loss of a child.
Love listening to the stories
