I can't over the fact that people say that Voilà was typical french but never talk about this song, that is really french music, amazing lyrics almost mike poetry, incredible charm on stage and an amazing performance with incredible voice

In my opinion, this was really the best song that has represented France in the 2000's ! It reminds me of great singers in the 20th century, especially Edith Piaf and singers of the 50's. It's a real "chanson française" that embodies French authentic culture, language, Parisian lifestyle and romantism !
True. She's more than a great singer and performer. She's in another world. She's truly exceptionnal. I have goosebumps and tremors. It's 2024 and she's still there.
Imagine it's 9 pm, and you just walked out of a stereotypical French cafe. It's a bit windy, and you can't tell if it's snowing or if its raining--it's a bit slushy. Your scarf blows against your face in the frigid wind, and somebody follows you, a bit dashing, yet awkward. You see through their eyes, and recognize it's someone familiar, a lost affection. Still wrapped in their pea coat, you take their hand, and start slow-dancing across the cobblestones, trying not to slip on the ice. You think about how you two came to this moment, and how beautiful, yet ephemeral it is. So perfect, and cinematic, yet you don't know what will happen in the morning. That's what Et s'il fallait le faire is for me--a cinematic song, thrown into the depths of emotion and sophistication. One of my two favorites from 2009 (along with Bistra voda), and definitely among France's best.
THIS IS AN ICONIC LEGENDARY CLASSY PERFORMANCE. I GET CHILLS EVERYTIME I WATCH THIS. She would never do it again but i'd love to see her back. 2009 was very competitive.
But still, Kaas is on another level. I think she competed in the wrong year. No chance against Rybak. 2010 or 2011 she would have had decent chances to win.
This is how France should do it. No silly gimmicks, just an immeasurably great singer with a superb voice and a song which is transcendent, touching and intriguing! Absolutely marvellous! I cannot praise it enough! It's simplicity and class is evident in abundance. Absolutely screams winner to me and that is indeed what it is to me, the winner of 2009!! 😍
I never get tired of this song, I keep coming back year after year. This is a masterclass in singing, in stage presence and emotion. Simply outstanding.
Born in 1992, followed Eurovision for as long as I remember but this performance is the reason why I am such a Eurovision fan now. I have never been so proud of my country. I was hypnotised by this performance and proud that she made it to top 10, even if I wanted her to win. A timeless masterpiece, I can’t help but watching it again and again. This song is so special to me, it was my mum’s favorite. Thank you Patricia for blessing France and the entire Europe with your talent, grace, emotion, and elegance.
This performance is so artstic and alluring. It reflects the French culture and with that performance France retrieved its old prestige in Eurovision. This is not dated or obsolete. Otherwuse it is so french, genuine with such quality. Commendable effort for France
One of my favourite Eurovision entries of all time - it’s so authentically French, timeless but evocative. I’d loved her to win or place higher. So pleased France sent a not dissimilar entry this year and that it almost won.
This one is definitely a show stopper. It's like the whole arena was silent the entire song because they were captivated, and it seems like they were all cheering for her at the end
Patricia Kaas is quite beloved in Russia. Probably the most famous French singers out there (Lara Fabian is famous as well, bit she is Canadian-Begian). So, for the audience it wasn't just another unknown contestant singing, but a chance to see an international star on the big stage. No suprise that Russia gave France the highest score of all the countries that year. Such a great song, indeed.
Lyrics: & If I had to do it I would stop the earth I would switch off the light So you stay asleep If I had , to please you , To make inverse winds blow , In a lifeless desert I would find the sea .. & If I had to do it I would stop the rain It would go back For the rest of our lives If I had , to please you , To listen to you every night When you speak about love , I would speak about it too .. So you still watch Deep inside my eyes So you still see there The greatest of the great fires & So your hand sticks To my skin , wherever it wants One day if you fly away I will follow you , if I can .. & If I had to do it , I would keep the winter away With big blows of spring & Long clear mornings If I had to , to please you I would stop the time So all your words of yesterday Stay mines now So I still watch The blue of your eyes So your two hands still Get lost in my hair I would make everything greater & If it's too much or not enough , I would be wrong all the time If that's what you want I really want to give it all If only you believe in it My heart really wants to bleed If only you see it Until I'm nothing But the shadow of your nights Until I'm nothing But a shadow that follows you . & If I had to do it ..
She nailed this performance. The vocals were on point, the staging was so minimal that it made it even better. But the ending, that spin into the bow….ugh perfection!!
@@noahbowie5985 I adore Andrew Lloyd Weber but that song was too mediocre for him. The performer and the presentation was nothing impressive either. For me 2009 was the only year in this century when the UK was overrated in Eurovision.
I am Portuguese, I thought Salvador was fenomenal and I think Amina had the best Eurovision song ever in 1991 but I just discovered this gem (I skipped most of 2000's Eurovision trash) and I was totally possessed and then transported to another dimension. I get goosebumps, I cry, I feel overwhelmed every single time I watch this masterpiece of masterpieces. And when I thought my heart had surrendered totally, this Woman then ends with the most enthralling moves and makes my heart explode with so much emotion. It's so intimate and yet so out of this world. Merci la France, merci Patricia, vous etes simplement SUPERBE!

This was much, much further than a regular Eurovision song competing with other Eurovision entries. This is pure art. Very nice from Patricia to host the Eurosong on her performance :) Viva la Diva!! Viva Patricia Kaas!! ❣❣❣
That's gonna be a tough battle, France has blessed us with many incerdibly good Eurovision songs, especially during the last millennium. But you're right, this one is certainly among them :)
This is one of my favourite French song, making me feel very emotional though I don't understand a word. I see and feel the passion in her eyes and voice...what an amazing performance! The song would have deserved to be the winner. Bravo Patricia!
@ muusicisart - This song tells about a woman who's expressing her deep love to her partner (husband, boyfriend... his status isn't mentionned). She feels that he's slowly leaving the relation between them. It's not clear: no proof, no real piece of evidence. It's subtle, only implicit. She only feels it. His eyes are telling the truth she has guessed. Thus she poetically explains that if she had the power she could do amazing awsome things & be much more committed in their bond only to make him stay with her and still love her. Her only goal is to make this love last much longer. This song is a very deep poetical declaration of love with all the beauty of a honest feeling. Actually, what she sings can be summed up this way: "I feel something... but I will do my best to let U know how much I love U & will stay determined to make this feeling between us stay true." The main idea of this song is implicit. This si why, I think, lyrics are so beautiful: the meaning of words has to be grasped intuitively and guessed. I'm French. This song is really good: music and lyrics that convey so much deep emotion. Moreover, the fact that Patricia Kaas performed it on stage made the whole thing be iconic. The end of the performance when she's dancing and salutes the audience gracefully is just... perfect. Pure elegance.
Just, WOOW! Still gives me shivers! The voice, the melody and instrumetal, the classy dance at the end, the massive french vibes, the ENDING and just Patricia herself is just TOP TIER! Just an overall astonishing art piece!
Without no doubt personally the best entry in the Eurovision Songcontest ever ! The insecure move to the microphone and husky voice to capture an atmosphere so close to Edith Piaf makes this performance the best ever. Eurovision never sounded as good as this !
Le talent de Patricia Kaas surpasse facilement tout concours! Évidemment, elle n'était là que pour nous donner le privilège de la voir et l'écouter 🖤🖤🖤
She didn’t simply sing, she lived through this song. Probably, the most sensual performance in the history of the contest.

Lyrics:
& If I had to do it
I would stop the earth
I would switch off the light
So you stay asleep
If I had , to please you ,
To make inverse winds blow ,
In a lifeless desert
I would find the sea ..
& If I had to do it
I would stop the rain
It would go back
For the rest of our lives
If I had , to please you ,
To listen to you every night
When you speak about love ,
I would speak about it too ..
So you still watch
Deep inside my eyes
So you still see there
The greatest of the great fires
& So your hand sticks
To my skin , wherever it wants
One day if you fly away
I will follow you , if I can ..
& If I had to do it ,
I would keep the winter away
With big blows of spring
& Long clear mornings
If I had to , to please you
I would stop the time
So all your words of yesterday
Stay mines now
So I still watch
The blue of your eyes
So your two hands still
Get lost in my hair
I would make everything greater
& If it's too much or not enough ,
I would be wrong all the time
If that's what you want
I really want to give it all
If only you believe in it
My heart really wants to bleed
If only you see it
Until I'm nothing
But the shadow of your nights
Until I'm nothing
But a shadow that follows you .
& If I had to do it ..
