The Rogers of Samoa

- An intimate glimpse of the first visible group of transgender men in the Pacific Islands - the Rogers of Samoa.
From the loneliness of family rejection and homelessness to the camaraderie of church, cooking, and dance, their stories reveal the challenges and possibilities of life in an island society rooted in culture and tradition.
Dedicated in loving memory to To'oto'oali'i (Roger) Stanley (1976-2018)

Kalofa e. I used to hate these people whenever I see them behaving like this (it's due to being selfish, prejudiced and and not trying to understand others). But the more I hear them speak about their feelings and how they were treated, even by their own families because of what they are. I tend to understand that God make each and everyone of us differently. God knows about each of us even before we were born. So who are we to imply "why are you different than the rest of us?" Only God has the answer for you!
Faatoiaboy, I use to feel the same way. Now I have lots of fa’afafine friends weather is a male or female. Just a warning though if you do not know or didn’t know, do not pick a fight with the Polynesian gay community. Other than that they are cool and down to earth.
Well said luv!!
And after I passed the test & my grandpa passed away, my grandma saved all my grandpa's undies for me. Funny when you hear it but the acceptance and love behind that action would've meant so much to Ice.
Need more stories from the Rogers how their family reacted when they tried to free themselves. Very brave people. Keep it up Rogers
Brave? Good grief...
@@KILLEMALLTWICE I assume the only "correct" way to live is how you live, right?
My heart swells with pride when I see stories like this from the Pacific 🥰 everyone needs to live their truth and knowing there is this support in Samoa makes me a very proud Samoan 🇼🇸
So sad to hear that.. wow
Tuff times don't last, tuff people do. A very inspiring story. Love & Peace to you all.
Wow this is such a beautiful story, it gave me tears😢😢 and a belly full of laughter 😂😂😂. These people needs our acceptance, love and respect, after all we are all one big family 😁😁. Ofa atu from Tonga
The story at 5:19 really pierced my heart. I hope us as Pacific Islanders can rise up when our loved ones are feeling alone in LGBTQ community and be a beacon of light and hope for them to lean on. They are human, they want love and respect. Please people give that love to your family friends struggling with thoughts of suicide or depression before it comes too late.
Thank you so much for your words. I'm not a fa'atama but a fafafine and I absolutely will forever support them
I love this so much! My baby sister is a fafafine and she is the biggest blessing in my families life! The Lord created everyone, who are we to judge! Absolutely loved this😍❤️
I love this documentary! We have lots of documentaries about the trans women but not enough trans men. They exist but there are kind of forgotten! God Bless all of us. We are his creation.
This made me happy, the couple made me laugh, that classic samoan humour and story telling...kia manuia from this raro girl
It's great to see the experiences of the fa'atama highlighted in this short doco, because we don't get to hear enough of their stories.
I thought there was something wrong with me as a kid but then I found this! It made better understand myself and fell less alone.
Thank you for sharing your inspirational stories, it's really changes the prospective of how we proceives our selves as individuals and as human being in our families and our community. Thank you ❤️ freedom of speech
Love this for our 🏳️🌈 LGBT community especially in our pacific islands 💗💗💗 moving in the right direction ! Thank you for sharing this.
I thought this was about roger tuivasa-sheck😂
We live in this world where people are made to feel like they have to fit into a certain category of what’s accepted and what’s not, and life shouldn’t have to be like that. People should be accepted for who they are, no labels. Some people are born a certain gender, and feel the opposite of who they are. Unless you’ve done something wrong towards someone else, or committed a serious act of hate, then that’s where consequences of your actions should come in.
Thank you for sharing your story♥️
How beautiful are each of you♥️ Gods blessings upon all of you, can’t wait to see more of the Rodgers do good things in Samoa. Just be you!

Well done Rogers! We are all humans trying to make it in this world
This is so cool. You never hear much stories about the girls who transitioned over to men, it's always the other way round. It's good to give them some spot light.
Loved this ❤️ I support these beautiful souls 🙌🏼
Beautifully told. Good on the Rogers! So sad to hear stories of families not accepting their own children.
does anybody know what the song is in the beginning?
Can someone please tell me the song and the person singing it on 8:35.
Congratulations to Ice and his Beautiful Bride!

I am glad they found their purpose & are happy :)
Nice video.
I truly did not know anything about the existence of transgender men/the Rogers in Samoa until I watched this documentary. Thanks Coconet TV for creating/sharing this documentary. I wish both the fa'afafine/transgender women community and the transgender men/the Rogers community all the best with their daily lives, and their goals and dreams (collectively and individually).
Much ofas.. A stud muffin hail from Tonga.. Love is love.. Enjoyed this
3:03 I went school with you and we were best friends. I don't know if you still remember me?
How can I support The Rogers? Are they online anywhere? Their story is very nice. 🎉
I wish this was longer. Dang man.
Damn didnt expect this in somoa, what about Tonga?
We all have agency to chose. I have an aunty who is transgender and I adore her, because she's who she is. She's funny and caring. I love her for who she is. I can't judge what I cannot understand. I adore transmen or transwomen. They have their own unique way to present themselves in who they chose to be. Don't let others chose for you. Do what makes you feel comfortable and be yourself.
An aunt born male or female?
This makes me so very sad. Live and let live people. Everyone deserves to be happy and as long as they are not hurting others, let people lead their lives in peace
First time seeing this. You go girl, Ice so proud of you..
Pena que não está dublado em português. Gostaria muito de entender melhor o quê as pessoas falam.
This is sooooo beautiful
This is why I love my people they laugh through anything lool
My heart goes out to my fellow people who have to go through hardships and adversity just to be themselves. I always told myself if my son or daughter were to turn out gay or trans I would love and support them no matter what. We are all human beings in the end.
Love you guys so much !! 🤗🤩😍
How great and happy to see mah good friend Vannilla Heather from Leiififi Secondary much love and respect for you uso much love from Pita Sefo
