What you experienced actually happened. On November 29, 1966, the Daniel J. Morrell broke apart during a storm on Lake Huron. It was night, too. There was only one survivor. The back half of the ship, where the engine was like on this ship, continued on for about 5 miles before it sank.
Same sinking of the edmund fitzgerald
What ship do you talk about?
@@willblanc131 idc
That is really cool to know..
@@sonnyj4923 I hate you no one cares about you I don't care about you that's just plain rude
The way the ship sank is similar to the way the Daniel J Morrell (or the Danny J as I so elegantly call her) in November of 1966. Its also 100% similar to how another freighter called the Michipicoten split in half on her way to be scrapped. There's actually photos of this sinking
the ship shown in the video is different
They look like they are built by a similar or the same company kinda surprisingly how these freighters are getting more recognition from other UA-camrs
Very similar, just like the Carl D. Bradley as well.
Those old Lakers built in the early 40s didn't hold up well in extreme cold and heavy storms
Or the uss Pennsylvania I believe its name was.
That's actually something that used to happen to old freighters. When they ride rough seas, the inconsistent stress on the hull causes them to break like that. Happened plenty back in the day.
Yep, back at the turn of the century the ships on the Great Lakes were starting to break the 600-foot mark, they were the largest freighters in the world at the time. Unfortunately, they were too big for their own good. The problem was that the steel technology at the time was not up to the task of supporting such a large ship and was too brittle. Waves on the Great Lakes are very different from waves on the ocean. On the lakes, waves build up steeper and closer together, though not as large as ocean waves, while on the ocean waves are further apart and not quite as steep, more like swells. This means that on the lakes, since the waves are so close together, a large enough ship can be suspended momentarily between two waves. The stress on the hull when this happens is unbelievable, and eventually the hull will break. After all these 600' ships started sinking in inclement weather the engineers managed to figure out what was happening. They then started to build ships with flexible steel, so that the ships would bend with the waves. This gave rise to the saying "If they don't bend, they break."
I work on the Lakers, and it really is incredible watching them in rough seas. You stand at the stern and watch the bow spring up and down like a diving board, or go down into the tunnel and watch the lights dance on the walls. Its scary as hell, but again, that's what they're built to do.
If you're curious the ships ive worked on are the Dorothy Ann Pathfinder, Edgar B Speer, Paul R Tregurtha, and Joseph L Block.

that ship wasn't old though at least I thought because a had an in a color picture

Its actually Edmund not edmand
Fun fact about the Irvin: It holds the current Great Lakes cargo record for fastest time to ever unload cargo with overhead Hulett unloaders (basically giant cranes with buckets to scoop out the cargo). It unloaded 13,800-some tons of iron ore in just under 3 hours.
I’m pretty sure the Edmund fitz held the record
@@minnesotarailfan11 Nope. It was the Irvin. The Edmund Fitzgerald did, at one time, hold many records but not that particular one.
As someone that's personally been on the ship many many times and taken multiple tours I would have to say that is very accurate to scale and the amount of detail down to the specific colors of everything including the walls the floors, and random instrumentations recreated to their exact location's I cannot explain to you how precisely accurate this is.

The middle split is what tends to get those Great Lake cargo ships, the waves get too big and it snaps. That's what happened to the Edmund Fitzgerald. When that happens, rarely anyone survives because the lakes are literally hell
I just want the Edmund Fitzgerald to sink it with Gordon Lightfoot on Spotify....
you can do that by opening another window and playing it at the same time as this video

Camodo, can you do a multiplayer submarine survival where someone is a u boat and the other is a ship in fog so it’s challenging to see each other pls.
Thats a great idea hope he does that!
I agree. It would be fun to see that.
Yes plz do that with maybe titanic or queen Mary!
Gavin Stadler , I got the idea from the Lusitania, maybe that too!

Mr Battle Beast hi
I have sud to you
becliversidge Hi
Dillon Villeret cause I am
I live near Cleveland and I’ve been on the William G Matter. It’s a boat that’s docked and turned in to a museum. That bridge looks very accurate from the game. There’s also a room full of coal. There’s also a submarine that I’ve been inside and there’s a big gun on the deck. I’ve also been to a big cruiser the Little Rock and slept in it. There were big heavy metal doors and we ate inside the boats cafeteria. On the wiki page near the bottom it show a room with missile racks. I went in that room and it was cool. There was also a WW2 exhibit in one of the room of the boat and there was a lot of American and German helmets. There was a Ww2 telephone, helmet, and gun. This video reminded me of these boats.
I really wanna go on the Mather, same with Valley Camp. I've been on the Irvin, and i plan on visiting a tug museum in two harbors, The Edna G
This is amazing it looks just like it. I see these types of ships all the time because I live in a Great Lakes port in michigan
Minnesotan here ive seen a few of the bulk carriers.
The front cabin is for company executives and high ranking officials the dinning hall behind the wheel house is the finest dinning on the great lakes when it was in service
Can confirm. I have been aboard the William A. Irvin. That is a VERY accurate representation. Props to the creator!

I have always love the look of the Edmond Fitzgerald and it one of my favorite story’s. The song for the ship was great to. Gordon Lightfoot the song Writer and singer donated every dollar he made off that song to the family’s of the people that died on the ship.
This is not the Fitzgerald, it's the William A. Irvin.
14:55 “Not to worry, we’re still flying half a ship.” -Obi Wan Kenobi
in real life if you put this ship through the waves you did, she would have had a good chance of splitting in 2. The pre-1948 freighters were found to have been made of some weaker steel and that was fatal to the Carl D Bradley and Daniel J Morrell. Of course the Fitz also sank, but she was built of stronger steel post 1948, which just tells you how bad the storm of November 1975 was.
It’s the SS Edmund Fitzgerald she did snap in hafe and sink
@@Ziro666cpm They know the Bradley and Morrell both snapped and then sank. They don't know if the Fitz snapped in half and sank or if she sank and snapped in half on her way down. Most theories and scenarios regarding the Fitz have the break-up occurring after she was already sinking.
It was awesome! Need moar surviving inside sinking ships!

The Irvin is a great ship and this model is super detailed and exactly like the real ship. Fun fact the Irvin was one of 4 ships 1. William a Irvin 2. Governor Miller 3. Ralph H. Watson and 4 John Hulst. Back in their day they were some of the biggest. They were also owned by USS the company who owns the Arthur M. Anderson. The ship closest to the Edmund Fitzgerald when she sunk.
Yay
I actually live right next to Duluth where this this is docked, it’s around 800 ft long but the biggest that come into port at Duluth can be up to 1,200 feet, you should see if there is a Paul r tregurtha model, that’s one of the “thousand footers” that still goes through today.

Honestly detail and full interiors make even smaller ships seem big. Take the RMS Olypmus and RMS atlantic that you reviewed a few months ago. Both were around the same size, but the Oceanus seemed A LOT bigger because of it's detail.

Also two instances of bulk carriers in the great lakes, the Edmund Fitzgerald "The Mighty Fitz" and the Carl D Bradley "The Queen of the Lake" that both snapped in half in Winter storms. It resulted in the loss of almost everyone on board the Carl D. and the Fitz had no survivors.
