I decided to go and show them the video. It went well to say the least! They’ve made a lot of animations of that little fellow.
Wow I cannot believe it. This guy was literally able to somehow obtain 16mm film alongside a camera, got a dumptruck's worth load of some transparent paper alongside with some hand-painted backdrops and then took the time to hand-draw each of the frames of the transparent kind of paper and then putting the paper on the backdrop and snap a picture to create each frame of the animation. Amazing work. Not a lot of animators today work with 2d black and white format. I appreciate your dedication to the classics. Can't wait for more.
This cartoon was truly made in a different time. Like we know it’s Mickey but it was really a different world. Humor, culture, etc. we’re just so different it’s weird. Like imagine someone needing to go to the theater because there wasn’t really any way of seeing a cartoon like this anywhere else. Just 20 years earlier the first production car went for sale, meaning most of the people working on this cartoon probably went a majority of their lives without a car to get around.
And now almost 100 years later after all this technology, landing on the moon, getting data anywhere on earth at rates not even imaginable back then from thousands of man made satellites orbiting the planet. We can finally get our hands on Mickey to make legal memes with him. Isn’t that just weird.
Edit: Most people did have electricity, I deleted that comment to correct my error.
Yknow I did actually end up watching this whole thing just because of this. I always thought the early 20th century was a fascinating time, as it really showed a change in how society was.
In early cartoons and short films like this, it's truly unlike anything else, even media during the 40s was completely different. It's such a unique and rare insight into a major transitional phase for humanity.
It was just such a fascinating time to be alive. So much changed so quickly, and although yeah, it did suck to live there, there's still this urge to just wanna travel back and time and view it for yourself.
I dunno, it's different from any other period of history in my opinion. The films weren't regulated or anything. You're not seeing this through the eyes of a textbook describing the old west, or old TV shows, movies, and whatnot from the 80s. You're just seeing what the people of the period were genuinely like. They aren't really keeping up appearances, and there isn't some outside force describing anything. It's just.... them.
It's so hard to explain why stuff like this is so fascinating
By the time this came out, half of Americans has electricity in their homes. And in cities that had movie theaters, a majority of them would have had electricity. The data is skewed by the half of the population that lived in rural and underdeveloped areas of the US.
@@Luckysquirrel1256 oh shoot my bad. I didn’t know that.
