I have her vinyl album which I bought in 1976 and this song was included, beautiful voice of her and the song. The album is still playable and I was 20 y/o at that time. Now Im 64 y/ o and still love to listen to this beautiful song.
I purchased the entire vinyl at a thrift store today. I purchased it without ever having heard of her or any of her music. The beautiful album cover shown here made me purchase the album. Literally the album cover alone. I didn't care what she sounded like. All I saw was a vision in front of me. I must say, I was meant to purchase this album. This song us absolutely beautiful. Her voice is perfect. I've been feeling down about the state of the world and this song is definitely a mood right now. I was exactly where I was supposed to be this afternoon when I found this album. ❤

This song encourages so many scents; Anouk Aimee walking down the train tracks after her failed attempt to love again and Ester in robin's egg blue in the red rocks of Boulder singing to Chuck's flugled trumpet. I grew up with this album and it still sends warm chills everywhere.
OMG what a voice!! By far the best version of this classic love song. I'd never heard of her before so I Wiki'ed her. Only 2 albums from half a century ago, with Chuck Mangione. Why did she stop singing?? What happened to her? Such a pity, no a tragedy, that she gave up music.
She has such a rare, glorious voice---it is a sad twist of fate that her magnificent instrument will disappear after the last well-loved, carefully maintained LP finally plays its last round. This is a voice to share with our children and their children.
Esther Satterfield, a joy to the world. My ex used to work for A&M and Herb Alpert. I believe Chuck Mangione used to record for them, so I used to listen to ES via Chuck via A&M. Lifechanging voice.
her voice and songs are beautiful yet to far to embrace for our young forget to easily. She will always take my breath away leaving me with tears running down my face. Its been a far and long many a day when we will hear a voice so rare and a touch of butter.
Claude, yes, Esther left the music industry after recording 3 albums. I read she then taught in Washington, married, raised children, then widowed. Lives in MD. I love her voice. Would be nice to have her songs on CD.
@@servmolina4410 "Once I Loved" and "The Need To Be" were her albums. She also sang the title songs of the Chuck Mangione albums "Land Of Make Believe" and "Chase The Clouds Away."

In 1974 we shared this song with my first gf.

Chuck found her/heard her one day long ago singing in a practice room in the halls of Eastman.

Ravishing! Beguiling voice and atmospheric music!
Makes you stare out in space in a daze...contemplating loves lost and unrequited
Talent beyond measure

I wore out her two albums in the 70’s. I understand she quit to raise children in the 80’s. Such control and tone.

i have heard that she is still alive, she just doesn't sing anymore. Could someone please confirm or deny?
www.answers.com/Q/Is_Esther_Satterfield_the_singer_from_the_1970s_still_alive Looks like her family was far more important to her than anything else.
She's alive, lives a quiet existence in Maryland area. She's fine, just had it with the music business
What happened to Esther Satterfield?
Her Wikipedia entry is so short and incomplete.
