This is how Egyptian’s constructed precious buildings that stand today. As a 70 year old and working in a Plumbing union for 45 years I watched some of the old timer’s use this laying tile on hospital’s and high rise buildings. Thanks for educating those who want accuracy. I have witnessed Lazer failures due to calibration on job sites that have been costly to those trusting Lazer’s. They are great and efficient until the calibration gets off. Water levels are full proof.
Una pregunta ,los egipcios tenían mangueras,? 🤔🙄 creo que no , entonces como era el sistema que utilizaron, disculpe mi ignorancia ,y gracias por leer mi comentario,👍🕊️🙏😇
Exactly 💯%. I've been using this system many yrs.(iam older than you). It works great for concrete forms. If the concrete is level, the building is level. If the foundation is off, the building is off!!! Get it???
Ancient Egyptians had clear plastic/acrylic tubing? That's amazing how advanced they were. I wonder how they made clear plastic tubing way back then. You mean water levels are "fool" proof, not "full."
You don't need a tube for level with water over long distances possible to make a small trench and fill it with water and set your reference points in each ends /corners. They probably leveled up two boards and aimed them like a gunsight for a third board further away and put the level mark and run a string between.
This is very good to use if you forget to bring the Lazer . It's something that old builders would use in the past but younger ones don't know about! Good to pass on to the new generation. Very valuable.
What about just using a Mason cord/rope with a hangable water level. Id assume its a lot quicker. I mean it you need to go around corners you could just mark your reference level at the corner and apply tension at the corner and transfer to the point where youd like to mark your height. I assume the Water level the both of you used will be slightly more accurate but I think for the most projects a few mm's would not be all too tragic. I've never used this technique before, however it is fascinating to see how resourceful our ancestors were in an era before the introduction of modern amenities.
I've used this method for laying out ceiling grid. I didn't have a long enough piece of clear tubing so I used a garden hose with 1' pieces of clear tubing at both ends, held in place by clamps, and it worked great.
When using a thin tube like this, the water often doesn't level exactly. To avoid this, put a little dish washing liquid in the container and mix it up before putting it in the tube. You should see much more accurate results! Dishwashing soap reduces water surface tension and makes water "wetter"!
@@Davidlouis3 yes it does! I haven't experimented with reducing the quantity of soap to the bare minimum required, but even then, may still have bubbles. Water is cheapest, but I never thought of using Vodka or diesel fuel! Need something with very low viscosity.
Great video … a quick tip, put a couple of drops of liquid soap in the water before you fill the line the coefficient of friction will be lowered and the bubbles are easier to remove. The level is achieved quicker as well.🤠👍🔨
Well not that long ago, 1980’s when I started as an electrician this is all the contractors used for installing T-bar, drop ceiling grids. I’m sure it’s been around for decades and centuries. Laser Levels have mostly replaced this method, but it is still popular in many area’s.
Can be done 1 man operation 20 litre bucket almost full of water Fill clear hose and put one end in the bucket Weigh it down with a non porous item like a hammer Siphon the hose to eliminate all air bubbles The free end of clear tube will give the height of the water in bucket . Now measure up or down to finish height

This method is slower, but more accurate for the average man! Providing there is no bubbles inside? Level can be unlimited! A mile? Very accurate! 100 miles? Just as accurate!
it don't work. I tried it. the water sticks inside until you jar, bump it to make it move. used it to install dropped sealing, got all screwed up. mabby a little dish soap will make it slide around inside better.
It does - the first few times - but then (depending on what you used to colour it with) it stains the inside of the tube and makes it very difficult to see the meniscus. Food colouring is a disaster....
The earth is a globe. I think you have concluded that the earth is flat, simply because you do not see how water would "find its level" while going around a sphere. You assume that if there were a way, you would see it, but you don't see it, so there is no way the earth is a globe. But the source of this contradiction is that you have not learned how both can be true: water finds it level AND the earth is a globe. There is a way, though. It takes a deep dive into math and physics to see the evidence clearly, or else a trip high into the atmosphere.
@@PeterLawtonYou cannot measure the curve of the earth. It would be 8 inches per mile squared. Instead of regurgitating nonsense, go look for yourself. There's no visible curve no matter how high you go btw.
I have heard of using windshield washer fluid. The blue is easy to see, plus you can use the winter formula if you are working in an area prone to freeze.
No need to sip water what so ever. Just elevate one side which is in the water and lower to other as much as possible till atmospheric pressure is enough to create free flow through the tube. Why drink water into it when physics is real?
Complete a college course in Physics 101 (plus all prerequisites), plus a little study of arches for good measure, and you will have the precise answer to your question. It's all too much to fit into a UA-cam comment.

Smart!
❤❤❤nice
That's similar to what we used in early 70s in the early, hose pipe with a glass tube in end marked with measurements on them
I've used a water level many times while doing stonework.
A very good explanation
Thank you 😊

I use vodka.
@h2s142 Why shoudn't you add soap? It reduces surface tension. It isn't for ease of sight, which is why you were mentioning food coloring.
Creates bubbles

Wow, I used that method for a foundation. Works great - as long as there are no air bubbles, as you said.

Also some food dye ?
Useful tip. Clear explanation and good demonstration without wasting lots of extra time.👍
Thank u brother
I've used water levels several times when building decks. So easy to use. But you've got to pay attention to what you're doing.
I've seen the Afghanis use these to great effect building large septic tanks and grade for drainage. Great stuff.
Thanks this is effective
Great video very useful very simple. Greetings from California.

Do you still remember how to use it ?

Very userul. Thank you!
Sir, to surly avoid bubbles issues, you can use bigger diameter tube
Doing this make sure outside temperature is not too high. Water can be expanded or formed bubbles in the tube.
Thanks for showing US it.
That's a very old method my grandfather used to used to measuring when ever we worked at a family house to be build
Ya but it is still valid
Great 👍👍👍😁🤝
Wow so good👍👍
Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you
I'm 66, used this method when I started in construction at 19.
Great video.
Thank you
Nice one, thanks for an excellent explanation and demonstration, It's a thumbs-up and a sub from me.👍
Good:Very Good information
Thank you 😊
Although more work these are very accurate (better than a laser level)!
Thank you
Laser level everyone can afford one get real.the video was done in a third world country and you were stupid enough to mention a laser level.
Much better tip, empty it after use because it will cloud over and you see nothing.
I agree with you completely @chrisclarke7828
Use coloured water in transparent pipe.much easier to measure
That was awesome. Thank You!
You earned my subs
Thank you
What are we leveling?

If the earth is spherical, this wouldn't work.
great job good insight
Used water levels in early 70s to mark levels around corners
when folding the tube, it will give different levels.
it don't work. I tried it. the water sticks inside until you jar, bump it to make it move. used it to install dropped sealing, got all screwed up. mabby a little dish soap will make it slide around inside better.
Perfect lesson
This is being used in India since very long time, enjoy it
Thank you sir
And that’s why he’s the assistant.
Good 👍

Watch out for air bubbles in line.
Very important, thank you 😊
While there are tons of other reasons, this video gives another glimpse at and explains why African construction work is disastrous in general...
The aliens have used this method when they built the pyramids in Egypt
Thank you for the video
if you colour this water, you can see it beter.
You are very correct I wish I did that, thank you for the reminder
It does - the first few times - but then (depending on what you used to colour it with) it stains the inside of the tube and makes it very difficult to see the meniscus.
Food colouring is a disaster....
Put a little food coloring in the water to make it easier to see.
Water finds its level all across the earth. Proof the earth is not a globe.
I agree with you
@@Constructionpoint great to see so many waking up to this truth. 👍
Its bubble mechanics... last time I checked bubbles were spheres

Your wearing flip flops and a $100 shirt 🙃
Great video mate 🇦🇺👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you
This method may not ba useful for long distances, because the Earth's surface is not flat.
Very true 😂
@@Constructionpoint 😂
Yes it is! You mean to tell me and others that the earth is round!? Absurd!! LOL
@@tinof5829 Everyone know the earth is round, but usually assume the surface of water in a swimming pool is flat!
There's no measurable curve
Thank you ❤
Can one man use it?
Asians use this method all the time, especially in the villages.
Another proof the earth is a Level & Immovable Plane!
thanku bro

Forgive my ignorance: If this is so, how does water bend around the planet? Don't we live in a round spinning ball full of bent water? 🌏🌍🌎🤔
