Actually, the carriage on the metal slab target for the gun is not only for adjusting range. If you see on the carriage, it has steel wires attached on the anchor point on the floor. This is a recoil compensation system, as the shot hit the plate, the carriage will roll forward, following the momentum of the shot, before being decelerated by anchored steel wires. This is done to prevent the target plate to be toppled over if the impact force of the shot is too high. You can see similar system on aircraft carrier's arresting gear for slowing down the landing aircaft or on several WW1 railway gun to compensate for the recoil
I always thought it was silly (at the end of Clear Sky) that Lebedev suddenly pulls a gauss rifle out of his butt and hands it to Scar to use against Strelock. After watching this video, I realized Lebedev was a part of the development team for Item 62, so it makes much more sense that he would have had one. Very nice video!
So after Lebedev, Suslov, and Kalancha left the lab. The monolithians have barge in and take some parts, plans or torn parts of the Gauss rifle's blueprints to make copies of them. Or, they might write the records inside the thick layered documentation book in their PDAs and send them to their higher ups. This is my theory revolving around the legendary rifle
I like how realistic are some parts of the stalker lore. For example gauss guns are a real thing but the biggest problem with them is the ammount of energy required for them to be effective. Despite many years of technological development making compact batteries that could power an infantry weapon like that is just impossible, but with use of even basic electro artifacts energy source is no longer a problem. And it's something that would be probably done by humans in real life if zone existed. Practical usues for artifacts are almost endless, and they go far beyound what stalkers could do with them. Their supernatural nature could let humanity bypass many technological problems and it makes you wonder what companies and nations interested in them could do. It just feels so wasteful to sell them for laughable sum of cash to people like Sidorovich, who in turn will make huge money by selling them to some rich assholes that cant even comprehend the power those things hold in them.
Didn't know they actually did shady stuff at Jupiter irl. Thanks for the info. Also, I didn't realize either that in CoP Gauss rifle is a one of it's kind weapon. Although, I think there is a chance that they resumed production after CS, but after the "brain" of C-Counciousness got destroyed and also the military doing a destructive raid on them, they had to stop the production. Faction got a heavy blow on it's head, and some of their soldiers even went rouge by regaining conciousness, they could also take some of the rifles with themselves into unknown locations. If a single technician with a small workbench and some boxes of tools could reproduce the munition for it, I don't see the reason a powerful faction (before the raid of the Power Plant) couldn't do the same with all the documents, manpower, scientists and resources they had. I think after SoC, they simply didn't have time for that since they had to concentrate on maintaining existance.
I knew most of the things said in the video but i still learned something new about the Gauss Rifle. Very Good and interesting video! I hope the people of the anomalous dugout keep making videos like this.
AS you mentioned, I hope the impassable doors, implied tunnels and entrances become available to explore in Stalker 2. I am always wondering what is behind them.
Hm, i never noticed that in SoC Monolith faction have a lot of Gauss Rifles, but in CoP they have only one. I think they threw everything they had to stop stalker\military incursion. Gauss Rifle probably expensive and difficult to maintain and repair, so it make sense that weakened Monolith cannot afford it as much as earlier
It was only for the lore. in SoC it was just an end game gun, while in CoP there was a need to tell a story of it. And it would be hard to tell how expensive and complex is this weapon with monolithians runnig all around the pripyat with it. But there's evidence for deployment of more copies of the gauss around the zone. First of all - monolith stashes with medkits and bateries. Monolith's sleeper agent must have had the gun with no batteries on him, and when there's a mission he will have to get some from nearby stash. This way, stalkers that find out his true identity will have no way to use the gun with no ammo, so they will probably throw it away along with his body since owl/hawaiian won't buy it not knowing what it was There's never been a single monolith sleeper agent present or told by in the game, but they must have used this tactic too since they turned a couple of guys into marked ones tasked only to kill a specific stalker
Imagine being able to use the cannon version of the gun, that would be insane. It could be effective to kill groups of zombified stalkers or blowing up a pseudogiant. Great video as always.
One more of mystery curtains from STALKER lore are opened! Good video bratan, it never cease to amaze me how you can gain all of that classified information (are you working for some intelligence agency or what?) How do you think gauss rifle will be back on Stalker 2? Since Cardan can make low powered batteries, do you think someone can replicate a gauss rifle but weaker in some capacity, something similar to clear sky gauss rifle? It'd be crazy to see random stalkers running around with a bootleg gauss rifle though.
According to the ending of Call of Pripyat, "it would be reasonable to assume that further secret development of the Gauss rifle is ongoing". The military is aware of this technology thanks to Major Degtyarev so they could be using new versions of the weapon in small quantities. However, my prediction is that the Gauss Rifle will be once again held by the Monolith faction. Despite the downfall of the faction after the destruction of their masters, it appears that they will be back in force in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. I believe that the rebirth of the Monolith will be connected to a restart of the activity within some of the secret labs, including the new developments of Item 62.

In my video about mutants where I talked about the pseudogiant, I had a theory that could explain this. The idea is that when the mutant is created (probably artificially) it is quite small at first, but then it grows very fast to its large size. This would explain how many pseudogiants appear to be trapped in places where they are too big to escape.
A fun fact. Item 62 is a real life weapon. It is called a rail gun and they are giant. Just like the one in the underground laboratory. There are smaller versions, the size of a normal rifle called coil guns, but they are not that powerful. They can hit hard, but not as effective as a gun powder round. The EM1 is real! Also, great video man! I love that type of content.

This might be an odd request - but do you know of any lore behind the bread, vodka, and PDA units found in the zone? The description of the bread mentions "Hard to say who manages to bake these loaves in the Zone, but the bread isn't contaminated and is perfectly edible" We never see anyone cooking, or functional ovens. Another thing not seen is cellular towers for Wi-Fi PDAs, and its hard to say such a network would operate around anomalies. Digital phone service wouldn't have been present in Ukraine at the time of the original accident, so where does all this stuff come from. I have a personal theory that the zone in some alien way is more welcoming to stalkers than it seems - allowing communication and providing food. Blowouts/emissions to some extent stop violence - everyone is either together in cover or turned into a unified faction of zombies. Freedom and Duty while hating each other, have a unity within and a willingness to be together despite the privations of the zone. Many of the mutants are symbolic of Human fears and may be manufactured by the zone, rather than reproducing in a conventional fashion.
These are actually important questions and interesting subjects that I sadly never had the time to make a video on.
