Great content my guy! Random question, I got my spotlight discounted after finishing my degree in 2020 and pay the lowest rate monthly. With having no agent (getting agents during the pandemic has been tricky) does that mean I can't be "found" by casting directors? I'm going back for a master's anyway to build my skills and hopefully get an agent when everything is sorted. Fantastic tips and hope you release more on this channel.
Great stuff, Jason. I'm a big fan of Acting Business Breakthrough - I joined you back in January and followed your system to get my new headshots! Will definitely support this channel in any way I can.
Chris, thanks so much for this comment! You're officially the first person ever to comment on my channel and what a lovely way to start off!!! Much appreciated :)
Great informative video Jason. A quick question: (I'm a voiceover actor) I don't have a UK or European agent. I have an agent in the US. Will Spotlight turn me down if I don't have a UK or European agent? Thanks, and I've subscribed to you on UA-cam.
Hey David, Jason here 👋 Spotlight has significantly relaxed their joining criteria in recent years. Having an agent has never been one of the criteria for joining, in fact it is closer to the opposite; many top agents won’t really consider you unless you already qualify or are on Spotlight because that’s the only way they manage submissions. Many actors are “unrepresented” on Spotlight. You really only have to be able to demonstrate with a reasonable degree of certainty that you are a working professional, with a certain number of credits on specific levels of production or training considered high calibre enough. But as an actor from the US the criteria are possibly even more loose for you. Whether actually joining spotlight would be valuable for you is another question though. If voice acting is your only corner of the market then spotlight is possibly a waste of money as the majority of UK voice work is not cast through Spotlight. Your time would be better spent finding a UK agent to represent you for voice work using any of your US work as collateral to demonstrate that you’re worth their time. It’s also important to consider that Spotlight is probably 80:10:10 in terms of work location; UK:Europe:International So if you don’t have the right to work in the UK or Europe then there’s probably only 10% of all breakdowns that will be relevant to you on spotlight. Great video. Is Spotlight only for actors? Because after watching the video I don’t think I can have a profile there, as I was in one series movie for 7 years, but the episodes were like 15 min long. Am I correct ?
Spotlight started as a platform just for actors but now you can have a profile for most types of "performers" including dancers, physical theatre, singers etc. If you were in a series then that counts as acting for sure? But you might not meet the criteria to join with a certain level of professional work.
4:40 Problem is a lot of agents wont even consider you if you arent already on Spotlight.
Finally a video that's actually informative with authentic inside information.
Is it worth using for musicians?
