Game development update for the game PixelTribe that im currently working on. In this devlog series I discuss the progress of the game and different challenges ive met during development.
In this dev log I fix a ton bugs that you guys found in the beta! And were also adding some completely new animals to the game!
PixelTribe is a game where you can build, upgrade and manage your own clan of vikings. Here you can craft and equip weapons and armor for your vikings, and send them on different raids against other bad-guys.

Fantastic to see how you've been taking on player feedback. I'm interested in how often players will use food cravings vs other food to heal Vikings.
Mobile game developer here. You are correct that timers slow down the speed of content consumption and are absolutely essential for content-dependent games. They are also used for limiting the session time, help schedule playing sessions (thus increasing retention) and, of course, monetization. In a way, timers do become frustrating from time to time to encourage spending money to speed them up. The timers also usually increase as the game goes on, to promote long-term retention (fx. there are 24 hrs timers that encourage you to log in every day).
Players will always hate "long" timers. I myself absolutely abhor them as a player. But you should not listen to players for solutions, because "just decrease timers please because I want everything now lol" will not solve anything. Look into the root of the problem, why do they complain? Maybe there is nothing to do in the game, other then click two buttons and leave. Maybe the timers are long enough to be frustrating, but not low enough to put the game down and come back later. Maybe the early game is too slow and not gripping.
In general, early-game timers should be very low, so that players don't drop the game within minutes of downloading. Look at Hay Day, Everdale etc. Another way is to give players a small amount of hard currency that helps speed up the first timers.
Try figuring out your session length and fill the game with activities that match it. It is usually around 10-15 minutes for casual games, idk for your genre. Then figure out how would you like your players to schedule gaming: should they come back once a day, couple of times a day, or once a week? Maybe its a binge-type of game, where you play for 4 hours and then come back in a month.
I absolutely agree! Theres a lot of different aspects to these timers and it requires a lot of balancing to get the pacing just right! And yes, many players will probably never be completely happy since things dont happen instantly, so i agree that one has to dig deeper into these kinds of feedback to figure out if its actually a problem somewhere or not. Love your insights here!
god, this looks exactly like forager.. I love it
That's what I first thought when I saw this 😆
Damn looks good, man... I wish I had a community for my game as well 😂
Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play lately. But I'm super excited the discord server is still so active!
I really like the changes you made so far and that you arr always quick to respond to feedback and bugs ^^
This devlog is amazing as well! :D
"Oh you dont want one potato TAKE 800 THEN"
First!
Im a betatester, amazing job man!
Great video! Can't wait for the next video!!
It might do well to think about timers in terms of wait thresholds. A 1 hour timer and a 2 hour timer are pretty similar mechanically since they both require the player to leave the app and do something else while they wait. But a 3 minute and a 5 minute timer, while different, don't really require the player to leave the app. They can probably keep playing until the timer is complete. Reducing all the timers might have the effect of changing your audience. Players that want to stay in-app and players that want to play the game idly, and come back later. Food for thought of course, love the devlogs!
yo those animals are sick, keep up the work!
I love the graphics
Amazing Video! keep them up
I don't really know if this is an issue at all but I think it would be pretty cool aesthetically speaking to have buildings that do the same thing have elements that are very similar, for intense all weapons shops (if there are more than one) having a stone brick chimney
this would mean that if the game gets to the point where there are way to many buildings to remember what each one does you could tell by a part of its silhouette what it does, either that or using certain colours in each type of building although that also has its limitations
(TLDR) basically just a more advanced system of using silhouettes so you can easily distinguish what building are what type
people love searching buggs xDD
when you go to parts of your land can you meet new items, ingredients for food and new creatures?

Sick video
wurkkans here

really nice video and editing, it looks so good. I'm checking your discord asap
UA-cam Just fucked with my notificantions
What font do you use??? And is it free? because this is the perfect font for my game
Looking good
Is it going to be available also for pc when it releases?
I will release it to mobile at first, but if enough people want it on pc, i can of course port it there as well :D
When this game comes out on mobile I’m playing it
You should make a update that has to do something with turtles in a good way pls
Question. Is this released on play store yet?
*Finishes all the raids*
*Crafts the new armor*
Now what?
Story or Lore is needed, this game wont last a month or week
Im on it! :D
hey could you do a mini battle or phishing something like that to pass time when things are constructing, that will make the game much better
pls
hey can you add seasons like winter summer spring and autumn
Most timers in the game are reasonable but some just suck. Maybe add instead of just one Viking working you can have 2 or 3 working on the same building. Just an idea not criticizing I actually like the game.
Smh, who's reporting all of those bugs?
Haha, I have no idea
Hey you look familiar, didn't you report that bug about those potatoes?!? o.O
@@MNSweet I reported a *lot* of bugs
Does anyone know why I can’t join the discord? When I try it just doesn’t appear

How do I get this game? Is it not 100% out yet?
Its still in under development and in internal beta, but feel free to join the discord if you wanna test it out sooner :D
Can you download it on ipad?
Not currently, but it will be released on iOS yes :D
