I get Rory’s point about cops on documentaries. It’s weird to see a cop profit off a case in which they were neglectful or not doing their job. It almost adds a monetary value or incentive to be neglectful or negligent in their jobs. Some of these famous docs we see have detectives who genuinely work the case or call out a lack of working the case, doesn’t come across as profiting of their lack of doing their jobs.

I think the point Rory isn’t seeing is that there’s a wide fascination with why do people kill each other and why do they go about it doing it in the ways they do.. what makes a person snap and want to kill people or become a serial killer? Why do some people have no emotion in killing while others know it’s wrong but still go about doing it? What makes someone want to bring a gun to school and kill students or kidnap women to torture them before leaving them in parts in a river..
And the 2nd part to it is just the way everything is turned and made into different forms of “entertainment”.. we are conditioned to remember the names of serial murders vs remembering the names of the people who died.. you also add in the fact that there’s just so many people on this side of the planet that the population of people who are interested in this stuff to a degree might be higher or almost equal to the amount of people who are completely turned off by it..
