‘Slide Away’ was the first song I heard by The Verve in 1995, and I was hooked. Saw The Verve live in 1998, minus Nick McCabe, good show but without him, it was missing that special sound.
matt catling Fuck yes they were, just ambience and melodies galore. Saw them at Lollapalooza 94 at Pine Knob and became an instant fan. Would love to see them again.
This and a northern soul are essential albums for me and should be for everyone else imo. Urban hymns.. first time they didn't try and push the sonic boundaries.. it is what it is
With especially early verve thats rare but equally great. They know how to write for one guitar player. They needed two and a lap steel in 97 when McCabe booked
Memories...seen them at their 'last ever performance' at T in the Park 1995! Superb! Then they got back together not long after...and went all Brit Pop...bit of a shame personally!
Two great Slide Away's in the 90's
Loved this song for years. Richard Ashcroft has been through some of the same hell as me, and we both survived. He inspires me. Such an intense song.
What has he been through?
They were the best band for me since the Floyd, just my opinion.......
by far the best band of that time....limitless potential,,bloody band egos

Yeah, they went Britpop. lot's of great bands did. Lush and Ride come to mind for me.
Fantastic, never seen this show before, cheers!
Thanks for uploading this. Excellent recording. The 199 views as of this viewing should have a few more 0s behind it.
Thank you for uploading. RARE document of them at their best.
Wasn't Nick amazing
