When SHINee debuted May 25, 2008: Onew was 18 (his birthday is in December), Jonghyun had just turned 18 (his birthday is in April), Key was 16 (His birthday is in September), Minho was 16 (His birthday is in December) and Taemin was 14 (His birthday is in July.) This is their international age, based on their birth date, not Korean age. Taemin became a trainee around the age of 11. SHINee are literally the industry's trendsetters. SHINee where designed to be SM's experimental boy group. So everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from SHINee in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suite. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything from songs to dances to clothing, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted, there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in. They have been in the industry for more than 12 years now and yet they are still super young. SHINee are part of Kpop's second generation, but they are the same age or sometimes younger than some of the third gen group members such as EXO and BTS, etc. If you know EXO, than you know how amazing of vocalists that group is. Well, the members of SHINee were actually mentors and coaches to a lot of the EXO members when it comes to their vocal training. EXO and SHINee are all around the same age and they were all trainees around the same time together and they even lived together as trainees, however, SHINee debuted 4 years before EXO, which goes to show you just how talented and how much of a legend SHINee really is.

Just a few slight corrections: Taemin and Jonghyun did go through training together, so when they joined SHINee, they already knew each other and were close. It was just, basically, Minho and Key who didn't get along. Taemin's international age at debut was 14. His Korean age was 15. Basically, he was already one-year-old when he was born. Actually, in Korean age he was 16. He was born in July and as you said, every Korean is considered to be 1 year when they born. And lunar new year is in January- February, then all Koreans turn a year, so by that time Taemin turned 2 years old for Korean reckoning when he was only about 6 months old
Taemin and Onew met each other first pre debut. Onew found Taemin practicing his singing on the roof and he saw how he is struggling. He started coaching him. They became really close. Onew became like a father figure to Taemin. Always taking care of him
