Ben, a struggling filmmaker, lives in Berkeley, California, with his girlfriend, Miko, who works for a local Asian American film festival. When he’s not managing an arthouse movie theater as his day job, Ben spends his time obsessing over unavailable blonde women, watching Criterion Collection DVDs, and eating in diners with his best friend Alice, a queer grad student with a serial dating habit. When Miko moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to his own devices, and begins to explore what he thinks he might want. - Розваги
Love this new generation of Asian American films and film makers. Shortcomings is a great graphic novel by Adrian Tomine.
Yes I noticed that too love to see it ☺👍🏽

@N dont think they said “new generation” to highlight an age demo, but rather a new era of production..
The book was horrendously racist and painted asian men in a bad light. Gave my trauma when I was 20 yrs old. We're not all sad depressing mfs, asian men i know are optimistic, hopeful, interesting and intelligent. Hopefully this will be better
@Quoc Anh Nguyen yeeee, tbf the opening line was incredibly off, and having Debby Ryan’s character say “maybe it isn’t your race :/“ tells me this is gonna be…not my kind of movie.i appreciate your sharing your experience with it, I never knew the graphic novel
i didn't ever expect to see justin min and debby ryan in the same frame but here we are!! super cool for randall park to be directing rather than starring and i'm so excited to see this story on the big screen!
white women are overrated anyways, after marriage they turn into Karens and pop ozempics like a pez dispenser.
Of course his character name is Ben here too lol love it
Multiverse
The multiverse where he drops out of Sparrow Academy
Actually the character he is based on it's named Ben in the graphic novel. Was Justin in another movie with a role called Ben too?
@@yellowantonio-nado7761 umbrella academy
@@clippingandwhiffingand Sherry Cola's name in this is Alice! The same with Good Trouble!!
that last scene was hilarious
He was so hopeful and excited...and then she takes the chair and leaves 🤣🤣
I swear, i honestly was not expecting that
It's terrible but I literally laughed out loud! 😂
Brutal
My life 🥲
How things work out from asian men in general.
Halpert going places, good for him
I hope this joke never dies.
Saw this tonight. If you liked the original Optic Nerve comics, you won't be disappointed. The movie follows the graphic novel beat for beat, with just a few exceptions that make it work better as a screen adaptation. The Alice-Ben relationship feels more authentic in the movie. Debby Ryan is great as Sasha and Justin Min is great as Ben Tanaka. I think Miko was miscast. That should've been Lucie Zhang. They don't really make smaller, indie movie like this anymore for theatrical release so enjoy it while you can.
They still make a lot of indie movies, it's just that their thetre run is limited because very few people actually go out to watch it.
lets gooo asian americanssss yasss
I liked the updated little references. Like the spider-man one for example and him only liking disney streamed content. The cameos were fun.
I loved this book in college! So cool to see it find a new medium/audience. Tomine is a great writer.
It’s such a lovely trailer! 👏🏽
Randall Park should be credited for an assured direction.

Put Justin Min in everything !!
"Is anyone sitting here"? "No" (pulls away chair) 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂 1:50
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I didn’t expect that 💀💀
Congrats to Randall Park! So great to finally see movies and series being released with Asian leads! Looks like Shang-Chi and Crazy Rich Asians finally cracked open the dam!
I'm so psyched for this as a fan of Adrian Tomine's work!

Saw it at virtual Sundance 2023. Shortcomings is even better than the trailer.
We got another Ben 😂
I definitely did (feel discriminated against), but not because I was Asian", "but because of your inherent bad personality." OMG that's sooooooo meeee!
I loved the graphic novel. It was raw in exploring Many weaves of Asian American issues. Kind of dark in its implications about the minority experience and relationships. This trailer seems lighter on the mood and acts a little cutesy with the characters. I'm looking forward to the film. I hope it's good
I'm happy to see Justin in more stuff 😁 I like his charisma
The scene at the end with the chair. Definitely experienced that.
Good movie. Has some cute life lessons. Especially the ending.
Did not expect Debby Ryan to pop up in here,But pretty cool non the less...
I am so happy to see Justin Min he's so cute
Lol no
He's hot 😍
"Is anyone sitting here?" 😂😂
"You could benefit from a little self-hatred" lol
If more trailers were this funny I’d go see more movies. ROTFL. Randall Park is my hero 😂😂😂😂
I loved this movie! Loved the friendship between Ben and Alice. I was praying they don’t break up…
I need Justin H. Min and Steven Yeun to be in a movie together.
they were together in beef?
@@felicia1110 That's true, but they did say "movie" lol. But also, they should be in a movie together :p
Beef is a five hour long movie
They were in Beef together
Light-hearted and heavy at the same time. Loving this!
THIS WILL BE BRILLIANT
Glad to see that Studios still support theatrical releases for indie films
Thank you for this, Randall Park. I loved the raw and hilarious dialogue. The true feeling of loss and pride.
OMG it is set in Berkeley!
I could totally indulge in naming the places to distract the uncanny similarities of those characters to myself
Bahah mood
Justin's voice is so calming help-
So excited to see Justin min!!!
Omg i read this graphic novel and loved it. Can't wait to watch it.
I’m onboard with these Asian American trend, about damn time!!
love all these actors from youtube sketches, especially wong fu!
This looks so good!! Kinda shocked it’s not an A24 film😂
Honestly same
i just read the graphic novel before i finished uni and so happy to see this!
The last scene was so good!
hooked from the first 3 seconds, can't wait 🤩
So cute
The last scene is so relatable.
Sherry Cola is the perfect co-star to play the best friend.
I WANT TO WATCH THIS 😍
Finally a leading role for the church leader in Beef and the adopted superhero orphan. Still don't know his name, but I remember his eerily half smile.
Justin H Min
as a huge fan of the graphic novel and of Randall, i'm cautiously optimistic. this def seems to have a late-aughts/early-teens 'indie'/semi-twee vibe. fingers crossed.
I can't wait to watch this!!
Such a well done trailer
I'm thinking home screening to bring my nephews to actually watch this. it's going to be hilarious.
This looks really good. Now I must find the book
supporting my man Ben here tryna hustle on this universe without his powers and all 💪🏾👏🏾✨
마지막에 빵터졌네 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 재밌을것같아요!
this movie was really good loved watching it
Love it so much!!
This looks hilarious! Can't wait!!!
Cant wait to watch it!!
Watching this for sure
Now Ben is back at the original timeline because No 5 restore everything and he is living a normal life now
Saw this yesterday and I loved it! The actors are all wonderful in their roles, and make you feel as if you know them in real life. The main character, Ben, is definitely someone we all have dated, or at least had as a friend.
Where did you see it?
The whole is anyone sitting here thing is real 😂 I can't wait to see this film
I have the graphic novel. Can't wait to see this.
HAHAHAHA love this! This trailer definitely hyped me up!!
Ben...Umbrella Academy❣
omg that's amy pham at the end, i love her!
This movie comes out the same day with Problemista.. time for double movie!
Love all people in this movie
This is gonna be fire!
oh i was already into it forgetting this is randall’s directorial debut!!! let’s go wong fu alum!!!
wooooow : loved that comic!!!
I loved this book
The dad going “Praise Jesus” 🤣😂🤣😂
Randall Park!!!
This looks good!
Yayy! Cant wait!
I loved beef.
I’ll defo love this
finally they are releasing actually good original movies. I'm looking forward to watching this one.
...based on a graphic novel.
@@philipgwyn8091 at least it's not another remake or sequel
the hot girl with the chair.... I just CANNOT hahahahahahahahaha
I left the movie feeling kind of disoriented. Ben's life at the end is like mine - alone...and it f**kin hurts. It left me feeling emptier than I already do especially with things falling apart around me socially - moreso to do with others and not myself, unlike Ben. I've never read the graphic novels, but I hope in time that Ben grows and that things get better for him. I loved the scenes with him and Alice and the meta elements of the film.
@gforce1754 Unfortunately, we are the 1%, the minority, unnoticed, unpopular, and misunderstood. As predicated by the amount of likes and responses on this thread, let alone the video. There is gaining traction on awareness of a multitude of complexes, personas, etc., but this type of life in postulation is, I would dare say, the least understood and at the same time the most special. At the very least, my insight concludes that it is the most lonely type of life.
There are drugs for that.
omg debby ryan is back
Looks good. I'd go.
this looks fun. dope trauker
So this movie is basically what my life is currently like. I will see it five times in the theaters
Same. Without the more toxic attributes of Ben. I nearly had the theater to myself save for one other random person. I liked the meta elements and Sherry Cola is fantastic.
Ok! On my watch list
Saw it tonight, really enjoyed it!
Because you're blind and deaf M0RON !!!!!!!!

😂😂
He was so good in Beef
Debby ryan lmao wtf im excited
lol! she grabbed the chair with a smile
Definitely seemed lighter in theme than the book, I'm excited to see it in a new medium!
How dark was the book?
Ben‼️❣️‼️
I felt that laugh at the end coz that's me lol😂
Randall Park?!?!? Woah didn't know he has interest in directing
When and where
Anything with Debby Ryan I'll wTch
i feel this
Anyone know what song was used in the trailer?
It actually seems good. A bit torn because I do want to support Asian Americans on screen. But on the other hand I hate rom coms. But on the other hand the writing in this trailer seems so much better and less cheesy than other rom coms
You should give it a shot, it's not really a rom com
Absolutely not a rom com
the graphic novel it's based on is a dark comedy
When does this come out?
Debby ❤
I really enjoyed this movie💕💕💕
I'm sure you have no eyes and you're also blind.....
@@luckyluciano3159Shut up
@@luckyluciano3159🤡🤡🤡
But why the name Ben 😂 I only know him as Ben from Umbrella Academy
Because it's based off a graphic novel.
That stairways looks the same place in the 'Past Lives'
