During college football season, there are a number of interesting stories told about the coaches. Apart from their football career, it is interesting to learn something about each of them. What kind of family did they come from? Were their children involved in sports? Do they claim to be a Christian? What are their accomplishments off the field? What obstacles did they overcome to get where they are now? Sometimes, the answers to these questions are revealed by the coach’s demeanor or by the way he responds under pressure.
In Mark 14:53-72, Jesus was under a lot of pressure. He had been abducted in the garden, marched back to Jerusalem by an armed mob, accused in front of the religious leaders, questioned by the high priest, and eventually abused by many of his accusers. The pressure of what happened during those hours reveals several things about the Lord. Let’s take a look at what the Bible says.
