    Started watching you a couple years ago when my former school was looking at getting new soundboard. We use it for theatrical production and musicals, but the knowledge is all the same. I have to say, very impressive presentation and explanation, along with examples or what you are doing. I may be teaching some students on the board and will probably incorporate your videos into the class. I hope Behringer knows how good a job you are doing breaking down the digital barrier for a lot of newbies. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for another great video. There is lots to absorb here, maybe a bit more detail in explanation [slowly!] as to exactly what you are doing, and how (on the board) you are doing it, but also the situations in which you would use each of these powerful features. The idea of using snippets for specific songs (rather than a full scene) was very helpful. More on how one might use "cues" (and just how to do that) would also be helpful. As a newbie coming from the analog world, there is a much more to wrap my head around. ;-)

    Sweet! I'm thinking *I'll try out using snippets to load individual singer tunings to specific mics.*
    We have a few leads and the rest of the singers change a lot. This will let me pull up a general profile, load premade eqs for the main singer to the main vocal mic, then load the individual backup singers to a mic they've been tuned on before. *We color code our mics, so this will mean that when I'm gone the other sound booth helpers can use my eq's (which they don't understand how to make).*

      JCs Child don't know if you have the info by now, but you hold the select button of the channel you want to copy, while holding select, also click the utility button. There is a copy feature and you can choose what to copy. Then you would hold select for the channel you want o paste to, then while holding select click on utility again, then paste.

    When you load a scene using the load key will it overwrite the current scene that is loaded and its parameters. IE I have Sunday AM (pre 1) loaded and I load Sunday PM (pre 2) from the board. Would it not load and overwrite over Sunday AM with Sunday PM preset in that preset number 1 and now Sunday AM Preset 1 retains that name but is actually preset 2 Sunday PM. I am asking if I should pick the Go command it actually goes to Preset 2 and loads that.

    Thank you, Drew, for this series. In setting up scenes for a theater production, once you have the scene tab open, is it possible to set the parameters using the faders or does everything need to be programmed via the scroll knobs? It's a bit tedious for simple things like naming channels, so going scene by scene would seem to be rather nerve-wracking.

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler 8 років тому

      Hey Allen! Thanks for the question! You could use scenes for that or you could use snippets for that. Additionally, you could use the library section of the board, but you would have to load one by one the library setting on each of those three channels. With the snippets, you would select the three channels, then select EQ then save the snippet for the Worship Singers. Then make a new snippet with the same things selected and save that once you have the men's quartet dialed in. Then, when it is time for the men's quartet, you can load that snippet, once they are finished, load the worship singers snippet!

I have the patchlists, and I would like to prepare my desk with the software at home, but how do I save this? When I come at the concert, I can plug a USB in the desk, but then what? Channel 1 to 8 are always drums, with every band, but the rest not.so I come at the concert, instal my desk, turn it on, load the scene for the first band, connect my computer and play some music through the PA, maybe put some EQ is an insert on my main out. Then we do the soundcheck, put some EQ, compression, gate and effects on the drums, vocals, delay, reverb...How do I save everything I've put on the drums, my FX like reverb, delay (in the effect section)..., so I can use it all for the next band, but still be able to load their patchlist, so I don't have to rename alls the channels and routing?
    Should I save the first band as a scene and all the other bands as a snippet, and select the first 8 tracks with all the effects?
    hope hearing from you soon

    I've got a question: For my touring band's live set, each song has different levels for the instruments, and so I save individual snippets while selecting only the fader parameter. All good. Now, what do I do if I need a different EQ on only -one- of the channels, for one song? I wanna keep the other EQ's, but have one pre-saved. Selecting the EQ as a parameter would also save the other channel's eq. Is there any workaround?

    • @DrewBrashler
      @DrewBrashler 6 років тому +1

      Hey, thanks for reaching out with your question. You would need to make two extra snippets. Select the channel you need the EQ to change and select eq for the parameter filter. Then save the two snippets, one with the new EQ and one with the old EQ.
      You can then use the Home tab of the scenes to load your snippets in the correct order, but you would just have to load the song snippet and then the EQ snippet right after. Then after the song, load the old eq snippet along with the next song.
      A bit of a workaround, but it would work!

    • @radulica
      @radulica 6 років тому

      Ohhhhh, Right! Makes sense. First load the general fader snippet, then overwrite it with the channel EQ, then afterwards overwrite it back. Thanks so much for actually replying! :) Great videos by the way!

    I have been wondering what the snippets are practically used for. In your opinion, if we were setup for a festival where different bands are playing with different head amp/aux sends/and fader positions are needed, would you use scenes or snippets? I ask cause my main mix EQ and aux send (monitors) EQs will change as the day progresses and I don't want them to change as I load a new act.

    • @jameshiltonbarber
      @jameshiltonbarber 8 років тому

      Better to use scenes but use "safe scenes" to leave your sends unaffected maybe. Depends how much your configuration per channel will change as it can be quite a lengthy process to put in all the changes with snippets

      Hey Todd, check out my video tomorrow on Scene Safes! We can use the scene safe, parameter safe, and channel safes to keep your main EQ and mixbus EQ's safe from being overwritten by the scenes. In this case though, I would be using Scenes rather than snippets.

      repeating what others have said - this is a terrific video, and you have clearly spent a chunk of time in recording and editing it to put the little windows of board info, and thinking through how to present it. The effort really shows. Behringer ought to be compensating you. We all appreciate it. That whole topic of where to use scene, snippet and queue raises all kinds of philosophical questions. I tend to agree with you that the more one uses snippets, and the less one uses scenes, the less you tend to clobber prior fixes.
      we might want to mention that whole matter of Scene 0 resetting everything, but other scenes using the defined safes. So, in general, scene 0 should reflect the hardware setup, where the S16s are, where the amps are, the hardware routing. So, if things go truly South, load scene 0, then load the worship scene.
      The festival situation presents a variety of challenges. We do an Oktoberfest with 5 groups, three of which do repeat sets. In a tent. In the back of the church property. With beer. And four different volunteers working with sound. Each of which is also drinking some beer. Thus far we have been able to acomodate all the groups with 32 channels without sharing input channels. We have thus far attempted to have only one scene.
      IMHO, snippets would be ever so much more useful if the tablet apps supported saving them. Noodling around with the 6 knobs in real-time is IMHO a bit too awkward. We are using an X-32 rack, which is even less fun.
      A discipline which has been hard to adopt is to remember to save the scene at the end of each set. It's hard to stop musicians from pulling instrument cables, banging around, etc. Given how cumbersome snippets are, it would be even harder to save a snippet. As you note above, a strategy to save the BIG stuff to scene 0, and set the scene safes to avoid it getting overwritten would be optimal.
      Thanks again for the thought that went into your videos. The price point of the X-32 has allowed it to be placed into churches that would never before had access to this level of sophistication.

    This is where the X32 excels - totally automated, hands-off operation. Of course, it's not entirely seamless or synchronous...

    Hey Drew can you control cues via midi ? My daughter's theatre teacher wants to have a lighting mixer with midi out, to control mutes and faders by midi. Thanks!

    Good information, but a little bit too quickly, not really crystal clear.
    We have a Behringer X32 and a MIDI pedal connected to the mixer. 1-8 on the MIDI pedal we only want to change the effects. Nothing more, how do we do?

      Christer Nyström create separate snippets or scenes for each FX change and then use your MIDI device to change scenes during a song or set.

    It would have been helpful if you didn’t jump back and forth between scenes and snippets. You also spend a lot of time giving way to many examples and very little time actually showing what you are talking about.

    Too much talking...not enough demonstrating -- especially for the novice
