Neither of those reasons at the start. Merely looking to gobble up all your wonderful intel and regurgitate it in my game. Love the vids my friend and thanks for educating us all with your scholarly lore dives!
I ran a game in the Moonshae Isles using some of the AL products and set most of the Ghosts of Saltmarsh locations there. This is a great region for some political intrigues if your players are into that. You have the Amnian colony of Snowdown, the Alaron kings trying to reclaim all of Moonshae Isles, the Northlanders (basically vikings), and I added a custom pirate faction from the Nelanther Isles (which has a lot of pirates in actual lore). All the other islands are either populated by monsters, or semi-independent villages, towns, and such (including two dwarven strongholds). You can have players explore all the sides, this powderkeg situation where war is coming and everyone knows it, and have them pick sides. Bonus points if you have players from different origins who have different point of views which can make inter-party banters interesting. Once the party gets strong enough, whether due to character levels or amassing a fleet of ships (you get a few sea battles in Ghosts of Saltmarsh and could capture enemy ships), factions might reach out to hire them or get them on their side. They may even get conflicting missions. You can also throw in the plot hook about the Storm Maiden which, if she reappears and returns to the Northlanders, could spark civil war there to make the political situation worse. Of course, Kazgorath showing up while this is all happening can also be fun (Clerics of Malar or Druids of Malar performing dark rituals that you must stop?), or throw more powder into this powderkeg. Throw in Baldur's Gate and other factions around Amn if you want to explore the geopolitics and loop in the Sword Coast and the Lands of Intrigue.
I'm tracking that Jor(ph is silent)dan's beard growth. (lol) Plot hooks are always good to inspire "what if" or "trigger" thoughts. One of the many things I do in teach and train events. Random hooks and practice brainstorming. Inspiration is always a good thing. It stands on its own reguardless of edition. Love the video layout and setup. Great job on it. Always enjoy your vids.
Sky Krakens with elemental storms around a black obilisk that houses a lich skycrapper city where they go from location to location gathering lore at any cost for the lich enclave. Ran that last week. Good times.
#2 is one of the central pillars of my current campaign. Dropped Thay into my homebrew setting just to use the demon once the party is high level enough. The red wizards used him to lay waste to the neighbouring empire centuries ago, and sealed him when they realised they lost control. In my setting I have an entire faction dedicated to ensuring the demon stays trapped, but centuries of abyssal influence have turned them into a murder-circus cult who just want to please the demon with gruesome performances.
8:00 on seven remember that the imaskari were known for creating altered spaces. They invented the bags of holding for instance. So a hidden dungeon beneath the seal With a larger then logical or explainable would be lore appropriate.
As for More hooks. A good dream to a cleric. Or seer when the seal was broken could prompt an religious org to send a preliminary investigation. The deeper you get the better the reward. Or the mining company..... Had a map leading to the seal. Someone obtained a copy and wants your services to aid in obtaining riches from the space beneath.
Thanks for the vid Jorphan :) Always useful for a dm to absorb as many adventure ideas as possible and so few places to find inspiration. Amazing as always I'd love to see more
It does not! This is an issue with the realms because other adventurers might have already had your adventure. It still felt like a cool place to investigate so I left it in. Make the setting your own :D
I love the thought of an all powerful skeletal litch living at the bottom of the ocean cuz he cant swim back up. lol Edit: LOL i feel like my DM would squint at me if i used the sphere of annihilation one. He just had a prophesized ever growing sphere of annihilation in his game and we, the players, were so clueless as to how to stop that we let it get so big that our DM literally had to redraw the continent map and change world events. We still havent stopped bringing chaos into this world by trying to save it. This is only the beginning lololol
How would you stop it? I know, ill use my Bag of Holding. You throw your pocket dimension item into the hole, you recreate another Sundering and a Second black hole. "Were gonna need a Bigger boat"
Good stuff! Of you havent already " The Great Dale" is a really nice resource book. It also has updated lore on Eltab. Not cannon, but it should be. You can find it on DMs Guild I believe.
Thanks i have a campaign around the spell plague, Adventurers just found from bahamut's avatar, due to a strong connection from one of the adventurers, about mystras death and the spellweave. They are also aware of the netherese as it has impacted several of the characters backstories. Bahamut believes Null is considering working with Tiamat in order to take advantage of the chaos in the world; so he sets the adventurers to find the 7 rings of Mhzentul, i will have them find some but disappear in the last battle One of the former characters that was injured in battle is from the sea of fallen starts So i will be using the Xxiphu as him crying for help from his former adventure party. Will also use the Ordulin hook afterwards as the party takes the battle to the twelve princes. Very very helpful video thanks.
I'm setting up a game for my younger sister and her friends (all new to dnd) that's going to take place in Faerun, they're going to be apart of a monster hunter's guild, so this video is absolutely a blessing. They're starting out right in Cormyr too! So #4 could be super helpful!
the lich one made me think of an evil immortal (maybe also a lich?) bard whose ship sank, so he's not dead, but he can't cast spells or do much (he cant sing underwater), so you have to go destroy/capture him before he resurfaces
Hi, Newish DM trying to build an world around Ancient Exandria and would love some more information of what it was like. We are starting in Vasselheim and one of my players wants to be a Drow and bring Lolth to the new land. I'm setting up a session 0 and would love to write out a one shot for the back stores. I guess i'm asking, Was Lolth a thing? What was Exandria like back then (Pre- Divergence) Is this a thing that has been done that I could reference? Oh and most magic is kinda illegal. I know I will have to bend some things like Spell or cites that are not a thing yet.
Haha my next campaign will be in moonshae and I have the general gist of the "main" questline, as well as a couple of very general ideas of some sidequests/sidequestlines, but still getting more ideas (bofore I sit down in a couple months to start shaping those ideas). And literally first hook is for Moonshae.
Hey Jorphdan I was hoping you could direct me to some info on Myth Drannor. I've seen your videos on it, and I know the history. I'm just hoping to get a hold of some maps it and/or any other info. I'm wanting to do a campaign for some adventures to seek out some lost Elven treasures which will be probably guarded by demons...lol.
Actually, Xxiphu was destroyed many years ago for unknown reason according to the Adventurers League adventure "DDAL5-19 - Eye of Xxiphu", the problem is that I can't find out what happened, and I hope you can give me an answer.
Hey Jorphdan I've watched every video you've posted about the forgotten realms. Keep up the great work. Question though, what do you do as a DM if you have a player (or players) who are more versed about Forgotten Realms than you are and you're running your own campaign in this setting? How do you deal with occasional created contradictions to the cannon lore in your campaign?
Be open and honest with your player. Hopefully they're understand. If necessary you can lean on them for knowledge. If it has become a problem I've stated in the past that although it's the "realms" it's my forgotten realms. If you want to run an adventure where Lolth is also the god of ponies, you can do that. Hopefully the player will enjoy the familiarity of the realms, but have a unique spin on it!
Love this video...I would like videos about each region of the realms with info on important people places and things a in depth dive to to the town cities lore and hidden object ....
GREAT IDEA for a video!!! I really enjoyed the ideas and plan to steal some of them. One thought to improve the next video like this, group your ideas by region ie the North, Moonshaes, Sea of Fallen Stars etc Cheers thanks again
Jorphdan Thanks! Although, I hope I can find a physical version of it, I need that that as a Handout on my gaming table :D Note: I guess I will use a modified version of #8 for my next campaign :)
I started an adventure hook where a Lich masquerading as an old man is driven by his daughters premature death, to retrieve his daughters soul from Celestia to give her the life she never got to have. Adventures are either encouraged by sympathy or intimation to do it. How will they retrieve her soul? Will she be willing to return? Will the forces of heaven allow this to happen or will they send their own forces to stop the adventures and retrieve her?
Geezer here.... My reason... Setting is irrelevant. You are correct, a plot hook can be used in any setting with a bit of fiddling and diddling. Good vid. Game on.
Hey Jorphdan, which region of Faerûn is your favorite to read/play in? And which region do you wish had more content? I got into the Realms with Drizzt, then, I delved into the Harpers books... All 15 of them.

Dude, your salmon-pink shirt totally confused me while watching this video. I thought, for a second, that you were not wearing any shirt and just a jacket. Your beard played a key role on this trick.
And now I am imagining an entire adventure based off these hooks. The divine T-rex fights the sealed demon underneath the mountain resulting in self annihilation and their essence being combine, purified, and stored. You find the litch and end up striking a partnership with him to conquer the floating far realm obelisk and in turn he will stay in the far realm (the dead can't be driven mad) and only appear with his new flying far realm obelisk city to aid you for a set number of any tasks. The castle is indeed harmless and is repairing itself. It is in truth a high tech terminal fortress and reality stabilizer made to protect and ensure the survivability of humanity. The ancient Netherse had some future Earth help in making that one. The shadowfell city event resulting in the shadow weave being recreated but Sharr losing all control and connection to it as well as other weaves being created such as the far weave and the mirror weave and being woven in partly due to one of the litch favors and the terminal fortress. The cloud of evil that arose from the seal is where the weaves were strengthened and those stored essences reused to strengthen the weaves as well as making a nifty key. All culminating in the Entropy event in where the primordial is made apart of the weave, destroying it's mind in the process, and it's essence woven into the makeup of reality so that it can never rise again.
Ok, I've done almost a weeks worth of searching. I really like the idea of the Maw of the God Swallower "Entropy the primordial" and the sphere of annihilation over Chessenta. I've seen things that say, lore wise, it is the single greatest threat to the world. So, how exactly does this process get stopped? How do players...or anybody else really, save the world from this calamity? I'm ok with making up my own thing if D&D lore doesn't have any way to end this, but I'd love to stick to the books if possible.
I am a Zulkir of Thay, me and the homies all hate Szass Tam. I love everything Thay, would love any content you have related to Thesk, Thay and the Imaskari.

"BECAUSE I'M ONE OF THE IDIOTS WHO LIVE HERE!"

Good to have my thoughts validated that Storm King’s Thunder is a better Sword Coast guide than the SCAG haha, awesome video! :)
Sir! It totally is. ;)
SCAG is mostly obsolete honestly. All of the spells from it are in Xanathar's and Tasha's. And Bladesinger is also in Tasha's
I actually really like this format because it introduces a bunch of different topics to delve into more at the viewer's discretion.

The Ordulin stuff was resolved in the Sundering Series (The Godborn book actually), Vasen Cale. Lots of stuff converged and Mask was reborn.
Any chance of getting a video on the magisters of Waterdeep? They seem kinda important but i have not seen much on them
My problem isn't the hooks its the follow up.

SWEET! :)
Two things:
1- i am reading the trilogy about it! 4:37, for those who don't know it's called the abolethic sovereignty
2- Now i know the pronunciation of Xxiphu.. i used to say it Zeefu..

3. Stealing ideas for homebrew games.
4. More "Jorphdan Conphtent", Hell yeah!
Or shall I say 'Hephll, yephah"
Am I missing something or is there nothing about Daggerford in the 4E campaign guide ?

Great map faerun behind you, from which source is?
I don't have the link off hand but others have asked in the comments. And the link is there 😃
I'm just here because your videos are fun
Any way I could get my hands on that beautiful map in your background?

All culminating in the Entropy event in where the primordial is made apart of the weave, destroying it's mind in the process, and it's essence woven into the makeup of reality so that it can never rise again.
That shirt's killing me, dawg. Makes you look like you're running topless.
The 4th is very Lovercraftian, shadow over innsmouth vibe.
3 , i never played Dnd , just here cuz you are cool
Actually i clicked the video because i love Forgotten Realms and your channel...and because i did not understand the title :D
oh no confusing titles. Well... welcome!
I'm not aware of a storyline that actually involved this, so you'll have to go with your own thing. "This is the way~"
@@Jorphdan ill do my best!
