Same for me too. I'm tired of these shows that recycle characters and plots. Also the protagonists or the main leads are very stagnant and I want some refreshing character development like how they did Ming Lan.
I finished watching Eternal Brotherhood and found it fascinating. The geopolitics aren't that complicated, but the human relationships are mesmerizing, especially those of the manipulative, scheming Old Chieftan. Whenever he tells a supposed ally, "You are the one I treasure the most," that person is almost certainly doomed. The eldest of the three brothers knows this after ruthlessly eliminating thousands of the Chieftan's supposed enemies, including scores of women and children. During that brutal purge, the old man cackles gleefully while playing with a puzzle toy. When the brother is sent back to the battlefield, the Old Chieftan promises to look after his pregnant wife, even adopting her as a princess. From the pained expression on his face, this brother knows full well his wife isn't simply an honored guest; she's a hostage. These are the interpersonal dynamics that makes this drama worthwhile. For Western audiences who enjoyed the dramas "I, Claudius" or "Wolf Hall" or "The Lion in Winter," this is a real treat. I will remember this drama well and look forward to Part 2. As for the pampered Princess Ning, like the princess in "A Journey to Love," she starts to grow up in a hurry after she sees the suffering caused by the endless wars and rebellions in the kingdom she will rule one day. I really hope this drama gets some well-deserved traction.
Eternal Brotherhood so far on episode 5 and , I love Yang Xu Wen, so bright, such a playful sense of humor character makes me smile, great braids on him and Liu Yuning, both good, great costumes, look good, love their sign language and the "brothers" constantly teasing each other. Their playfulness and sense of humor makes for a unique story in the foreground of serious, dangerous, political struggles.. The rather dark lighting works so far to set the tone. Good pacing. Interesting story.

Really enjoyed enternal brotherhood, good costumes and cinematography, good actors too. Each character has their own twist. Its a simple and predictable plot but enjoyable. Modern aspects like investing and conflict of interest like the man wanting to sell his assets because it'll be impacted by war would create a riot in 2024 but its hilarious in the drama.
Im actually surprisingly enjoying Eternal Brotherhood so far (at ep 10). It's actually fast paced imo. The characters are distinct, the antagonists are complex and everyone makes sense. The plot is actually pretty simple so far.
I've loved Eternal Brotherhood, up to episode 22. There are a lot of interesting plot twists I've been engrossed by the relationship between the senior leadership and the younger 3.
I like how AvenueX pointed out that the Eternal Brotherhood didn't even bother to INTRODUCE us to the drama. Like I was expecting for any background and introduction right at the beginning but they gave us Zichuan's Xiu's "epic" sand burying scene instead. I mean I even had to watch the Ep 1 twice to understand what is going on with the drama. I'm currently Ep 3 and I don't know if I will even have my patience to continue.
I watched Eternal Brotherhood and loved it. I understood it with no problem. Also the three ML guys were great! All 3 are very handsome, great fighters with likable personalities. However, the last episodes ending was terrible as it ended in the middle of a huge battle without giving you any idea of what happened! I’m assuming it will have a season 2. Otherwise it will really suck 🤨. Also, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I think Liu Yuning is very handsome and sexy. I'm at Ep 18 of Eternal Brotherhood, and plan to watch til the end, but in no rush to finish. I quite enjoy the dialogues, visuals, interaction, and story. I don't read the novel nor watch the anime, and it's true I have no idea about their world, but my attitude towards watching fantasy is just to go along with it and that anything is possible 😊
I absolutely loved Eternal Brotherhood, not least for the visuals. That said, yes, the female lead...I wanted to sit her down and give her a good talking to. That said, she does appear to have matured a wee bit by the end. I would like to see a second series and I hope it doesn't get lost somewhere.
I did watch Detective Chinatown 2 and enjoyed it very much. It’s true that the four cases are not as compelling as the first two cases of Season 1 and as a crime thriller, there’s more style than substance. The entire drama feels more like made for fans of the movie series, as the timeline of the four cases featured are jumbled up and a viewer who had watched the previous movies and the TV drama’s season 1 would have some fun in working out the correct time sequence of the cases. Watch out for case no.3 where it pays homage to The Matrix.
You are totally right about Eternal Brotherhood. I watched 3 episodes and quit. I had no idea what was going on, there's no context at all and lots of random things happen with no explanation. I was so confused.
I follow you for so many years because of your honesty: "right now C-dramaland is so boring" and, true, such a thing "never happened since " you've started the channel. I may disagree with you on several things, but it's this honesty why I'll stick with you because you're honest
❤ Me encanta "Eternal Brotherhood".
I watched all of Eternal Brotherhood (I'm a LYN Stan 😅), and I totally agree with your review. There's a lot of good intentions, and some court scenes feel properly Shakespearean, but it's just got way too many flaws! I hope LYN's other dramas are better, for his sake!
I am looking forward season 2 of Eternal Brotherhood…I hate when dramas end in a cliffhanger and you don’t know if there is going to be a season 2 or not…As for the FL I hope they exile her to a foreign land.LOL!

Eternal Brotherhood requires a bit of concentration in the first 2 episodes as you try to place the characters and connect them to the storyline, but after that it’s really good. There is something Rebel Princess about the cinematography which I love. Only up to episode 5 and savoring it slowly.
I really liked Eternal Brotherhood - the storyline is at least consistent and the acting is decent. More GoT and I hate the cliffhanger. Really hoping for a sequel.
Goddd I can soo relate to you on I am sooo bored with current dramas...Cdrama land is hella boring currently nothing to watch noting to talk about it seems
I have had two tries at watching EB, mostly because I like Liu Yu Ning. But I am struggling, I usually take a fair time to understand these historical plots anyway because of lack of historical knowledge but this one really defeats me. I'll have to wait for a night when I'm bored and try again.
Yang Xuwen looks kinda like Korean actor Kim Bum, styled like that. It's true there hasn't been a truly outstanding drama yet, this year. Last year, at least. we had Fairy and Devil that was one of the best dramas ever and The Forbidden Flower that was quite different from the usual.
I was one of those who tried watching Eternal Brotherhood - I love two of the actors there but I couldn't sit through as I was utterly confused by what was going on. There were moments where you felt you should continue, then nope. Moving on.
If you want to watch a really high-quality fantasy drama, then start watching "Burning Flames" (Lie Yan Zhi Wu Geng Ji). It's just a breath of fresh air in a closed room smelling of mothballs and cheap perfumes!
I keep going back to Eternal brotherhood, because of the quality of visuals, excellent older actors, and rather good young ones.... but I stop again because the story feels like I dropped in on something I am not privy to... There'senough of that in real life, and here, I can choose to just go elsewhere.
I’m still going to watch EB (I was waiting for all the eps to drop) Being Irish ☘️ We are used to watching shows in seasons & that end on cliffhangers & bombshells Often have to wait 12/18 months for S2 & shows like Peaky Blinders were only 6 eps a series! Watch the recap or rewatch the last season before the new one What’s the problem? I’ve always done that Don’t most people? I also don’t give a ‘FF’ about actors looks or personal lives (extreme violence excepted ) I don’t get the Chinese obsession with the minutiae of actors looks & lives. I’ve been rewatching favs too Just finished EN1 It was epic & made me happy I miss the 60ep dramas I’m now going to watch Shogun & rewatch Warrior S1&2 then S3 while waiting for all the upcoming LoS eps to drop CD is not what it was sadly but I have a huge watchlist on NF of dramas from all over I actually sat & watched “Death comes to Pemberley’ the other night with my Mum It was great! House of Ninjas was a ride! I kind of abandoned all other drama & shows apart from C&KD’s several years ago but from now on I’m going to watch a lot less - Just my absolute favs - Stop living in a CD ‘bubble’ cos lets be honest - A lot of it is just not good - Read ‘BAD’ (what ever genres you prefer) & start going through my watchlist - So much good stuff out there Things change!TC x ☺️
Sort of remember 🥝 had major cost-cutting laying off 40% or so of staff in 2022 or 2023 to achieve "profitability". 👖 did similarly. I read that its promotion dept had just 2 people left. If true, these two people must deal with drama-variety show social media promotions as well as all such materials on their platform. No wonder both are doing a lot more air-dropping while handing off publicity work to drama productions and cast members.
This year I only watched your c-drama reviews 😅. After beeing cheated so many times last year I do not want to invest time in something I very potentially just end up dropping. Is it may be the problem of all this covid period when everything was locked up, people had no creativity left plus all other difficulties? No we get dramas made in the covid time (or before that), just thinking…
I'm on episode 5 of Eternal Brotherhood, and I'm not sure I'm going to continue. I know some people like the Game of Thrones-esque cinematography, but I really don't. It's too dark and colorless for my tastes (which I'm sure was a purposeful stylistic choice that I'm just not sophisticated enough to appreciate ;) ). I'm also really confused by the random flashbacks in the middle of scenes. Chinese drama land is definitely going through a slump. Because of this, I'm finally getting around to watching older dramas I've had on my watchlist for awhile. I'm currently watching The Story of Yanxi Palace.
I was so excited to watch detective chinatown 2 since 8 also enjoyed the first season but I’ve only seen the first movie. I was so disappointed to see that the thailand crew was only featured in the first half. no disrespect to kiko’s universe but the other characters are so much more interesting. I dropped it after watching through half of ep. 9 :/
Eternal B I finished yday. It’s probably the best thing out there right now but it’s a 6/10 for me. Looking forward to JOL2 n JTY2. Or SSS. Not been anything inspiring in a few months.
So far, The 19th Floor was the best drama this season. I'll check out Eternal Brotherhood because it sounds intriguing, and it might come together in the end. I made it through Ever Night (which i ended up loving) so I'll try to muddle through this one and maybe will be rewarded by it in the end. Not liking thhe two seasons idea though. Thanks.
I couldn't agree with you more about how disappointing Chinese Dramaland has been. I've had high hope for some that were released only to find it a disappointment & end up dropping it not even halfway through. Some I'll struggle to complete.. but unfortunately can't get that view time back. I've started back to re-watching Chinese dramas' that are lifesavers when it comes to keeping my attention... even though I know what is going to happen.. it's still entertains me. That's what I consider an amazing drama. So for now I'm rewatching ***Hidden Love*** & probably after this I'll rewatch an oldie but goodie ***Eternal Love*** (aka *Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms* or maybe *Love Like the Galaxy*). There are still many past amazing Chinese dramas that I can go back to.. thank goodness. Love watching your reviews.. Thank you for all your hard work. You're Truly Appreciated!!!
Just finished "Detective Chinatown season 2". The cases are really good but the detective work is not that great. Yet I enjoyed it! Wish there were more Lin Mo stuff! I clicked open the series because of his character and how much I was anticipating to get to the next chapter of his story, finding out about Q. But I am disappointed, it didn't go to that route. Whatever, it's still better than a lot of crappy dramas that are/were hot! As for Eternal Brotherhood not interested!
Forced myself to watch eternal brotherhood but dropped out at episode 9 cause was so confused at what I was watching. Is there any drama worth watching cause I don’t see any
I advise you to start watching "Burning Flames" (Lie Yan Zhi Wu Geng Ji). It is safe to say that this film has become something that The Eternal Brotherhood will never become. An epic fantasy in the spirit of the Lord of the Rings, partly based on Chinese mythology, but with a dynamic plot and vivid characters. I watched 8 episodes in one evening, which is very rare for me. Starring Ren Jie Lun (Alan Ren), known for the dramas Under the Power, Miss Crow with Mr. Lizard, One and Only. This is his first role as a heroic fighter against evil. He plays very well. Better than most of his romantic dramas.
Watching Yongan Dream right now and think the romance is sweet. Intent to watch Eternal Brotherhood even though you just spoiled it for me. I like Liu You Ning despite his dumb hairstyle in this drama. Might watch Burning Flame next even though I'm not a particular fan of Allen Ren.
I watch Eternal Brotherhood some episodes, when realized the names of the characters sound familiar. Turn out I have watched the donghua "Purple River". Since I have watched the donghua, I found the drama quite disappointing, unlike "Blood of Youth" which produced as exact as the donghua "The Great Journey of Teenager", "Eternal Brotherhood" is quite bland.
I didn't even finish the first esipode of enternal brotherhood. I thought it was gonna be like FF12 twelve with the different species and politics but the female lead characters or w/e kinda turned me off. I kinda was wishing it wasn't focused on romance but that's just me
The main problem of the Eternal Brotherhood, like many other adventure, detective, fantasy, etc. dramas, is the excessive fixation of the plot on the romantic relationships of the characters. Chinese screenwriters need to learn how to stick to the genre. There is a genre of "romance". That's where you shove all the "vanilla love" with the flighty, grimacing heroines. If I were a man in China, I would already be building barricades around film companies demanding the return of normal male cinema! If I'm watching a heroic epic, and most of the drama is shown to me by a crazy girl who sticks to the main character like gum in the sole of a shoe, then I'll turn off the drama once and for all. Moreover, if the drama has a literary source written by a male writer for male readers, and not for girls crazy about love, then any attempts to change the brutal plot to love suffering will become a coffin lid for the work. I understand that excessive romance with stupid girls is due to the desire to inspire Chinese women with thoughts about the importance of marriage and the birth of new children for the growth of the country's economy... But it does it so clumsily! And this is an open-ended Objectification of women!
Watch this drama after Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty.. try hard to stay but the story was to slow with not enough background to understand the storyline.. After Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, my taste changee..
It’s so interesting that there is no Chinese drama worth watching! I started watching eternal brotherhood but stopped for the meantime 😮not sure, if I come back , May be ?? I will never watch the directive drama you mention ! At the moment I’m following only Yon gan dream 20 Everyone loves me 16 They are ok ✅ but they are good to pass my time 🤣 I’m also rewatching some period dramas that where my favourites 👍🏾❤️ still enjoying them! Thank you 🙏🏾 for all your reviews 👍🏾😊 I always looked forward to see your favourites 😊
I am on Ep 18 of Eternal Brotherhood and I have a vague idea what is going on. It has not impeded my enjoyment however. That said, how on earth is the dumbest princess on the planet, the heir to the chiefdom? Makes no sense what so ever.
Really???the other 2 brother is dead at the end?only zichuan xiu ia alive and became a king?noo...i can't wacth season 2 😱..noo..noo..noo...not after a journey to love...i'm still mourning 😢
Having been a fan of said genre, I find that in a pure fantasy (Western type) fiction, women are often poorly written characters. They are either overly sexualized or overly annoying with no motivation or growth, and often used as pawns first, then even if they "grow," their decision making is often male-based. I'm not sure how this fusion is, but I'll give it a try and see if I "like" it.
I watched et.brotherhood and dropped when it shows d same old troupe of a FL character that irritates n annoyed me( just like u said). The storyline even weakened the ML by doing unnecessary stupid things for d FL. i always wonder why so many CDrama creates mostly d same Female character that annoys the audience, is it these types are fetish fantasy for most directors ..??
Unfortunately, "annoying female characters" with cute grimaces (NO!) and stupid behavior are a tribute to modern fashion in China, where young girls try to sell themselves to rich suitors who like the dependent position of a woman in the family when she achieves self-love by imitating a trained lapdog or a three-year-old child (here you can write about the hidden pedophilia prevailing in Chinese society, but I will not). It is possible that the insufficient number of the female population to replenish the demographic forces censorship to write scripts for screenwriters so that they write less about independent, intelligent women who can live their lives with dignity without dwelling on love and marriage.
There is a surprisingly large audience base who find this type of female character cute. Maybe something about being willful, not having to behave while still being liked/loved/protected/cuddled/spoiled appeals to their psyche. It also seems to fit many (young) male viewers' expectations for female characters. Example: An IQiyi fantasy donghua centering on 3 boys. One started out as the weakest but perhaps had the most potential. His master pretty much cuddled him. He snuck out of their sanctuary and found his life in great danger, causing his master to have to repeatedly save him. Yet, he kept disobeying master's commands to keep low and stay out of sight because he felt that he must "help". His "helping" contributed to master getting killed. The whole sequence was infuriating to watch. There were comments wondering whether he was actually a girl because an "incompetent, impulsive, troublemaking burden must be a girl."
@@keekeepod well, that being said can be true, but am one of the audience who find these types mostly creengy n unneccessary, as for me (personally) intelligence are more captivating rather than immature behaviour. But again each with their own likes, not something to be argued about..thanks for sharing
@@binudoddy4425The main reason I read/watch cdrama & kdrama reviews/rants is to avoid major landmines like dramas featuring type of female characters. I mostly agree with analyses stating that this type of female characters is a cheap easy device to show "good" qualities of their corresponding male characters. "Look at how he spoils her. He's such a good man!"

You are totally right about Eternal Brotherhood. I watched 3 episodes and quit. I had no idea what was going on, there's no context at all and lots of random things happen with no explanation. I was so confused.
Your drama selection in this one makes me wanna feel this makes me cry ❤
I follow you for so many years because of your honesty: "right now C-dramaland is so boring" and, true, such a thing "never happened since " you've started the channel. I may disagree with you on several things, but it's this honesty why I'll stick with you because you're honest
I am really enjoying Eternal Brothehood 2.I do not why maybe I am enjoying their performances😊
I hope LYN's other dramas are better, for his sake!
just started Eternal Borhterhood.. i admit i watch just for the eye candies and as always, FF button is my eternal best-friend
I am looking forward season 2 of Eternal Brotherhood…I hate when dramas end in a cliffhanger and you don’t know if there is going to be a season 2 or not…As for the FL I hope they exile her to a foreign land.LOL!
So insightful n help us to not waste our time watching the not so worth drama. Hope she won't turn into like some others who would bias based on sponsor. Been a fan of Avenue X for years, you may not like her at first but in the end, you will love n appreciate her fr.
@avenuex why don’t you review some films? The pig, the snake and the Pigeon, Goldfinger and Moscow Mission were 3 terrific films I watched recently.
Eternal Brotherhood requires a bit of concentration in the first 2 episodes as you try to place the characters and connect them to the storyline, but after that it’s really good. There is something Rebel Princess about the cinematography which I love. Only up to episode 5 and savoring it slowly.
Thanks for the review... I was waiting for your video
I really liked Eternal Brotherhood - the storyline is at least consistent and the acting is decent. More GoT and I hate the cliffhanger. Really hoping for a sequel.
Eternal Bortherhood watching also
Eh, will u make final review about Fighting for Love drama?
Burning flames is so good hope they will keep going rock to the end of the series.
❤ "A journey to Love", preciosa! "Strange tales of Tang Dinasty " muy entretenida, intriga, buen guión, buena pareja protagonista 👍
Moving on.
I think someone at Netflix watches your channel...lately many of the dramas you mentioned appear on my netflix suggestion feed
If you want to watch a really high-quality fantasy drama, then start watching "Burning Flames" (Lie Yan Zhi Wu Geng Ji). It's just a breath of fresh air in a closed room smelling of mothballs and cheap perfumes!
I keep going back to Eternal brotherhood, because of the quality of visuals,
excellent older actors, and rather good young ones....
but I stop again because the story feels like I dropped in on something I am not privy to...
Please talk about short dramas 🙏❤️❤️
This year I only watched your c-drama reviews 😅. After beeing cheated so many times last year I do not want to invest time in something I very potentially just end up dropping. Is it may be the problem of all this covid period when everything was locked up, people had no creativity left plus all other difficulties? No we get dramas made in the covid time (or before that), just thinking…
Your drama selections for this review makes me feel like there is really really no interesting drama in cdrama land lately😂😂
There isn't 😅😅😅😅 haven't watched anything for the past 1 month
Sorry
Exactly, that's why it is a good time to watch the ones you have in you "to watch list" 😁 I'm doing that.
Well, i enjoyed watching Burning Flames on Iqiyi. This drama had a pretty strong promotion.
Do you know when Blossom Shanghai will be aired for international viewers? That and Joy of Life 2 would be when I go back to cdrama 😂
Hello Avenue X! Have a wonderful day! Keep up the amazing work
Suggestion: it´s a good moment for you to watch and review old series you don´t watch, that could be interesting for us...
i am watching Eternal Brotherhood
I'm watching it and I love it
Ooh I really thought we will get Lin Mo for the whole season
Eternal brotherhood… sigh. I stopped. Wanted to finish it but … it’s hard to get into.
Thanks.
Hello Can u recommend me a drama to watch which does waste my time.? Tq Any C-drama that is considered the best so far in 2024.
Thanks.
I enjoy your rant always... ^_^
Wow "Detective Chinatown II" bit the dust as well ? Now I seriously worry for JOL II 😢 many second seasons failed so far. Please JOL II be good oh 🙏
Be Patient! Last year you made the same rant about no good c-dramas and then it exploded. The Universe is listening to AvenueX :)
How can I watch strange tales of tang dynasty free
Search it on google. Can't post the link, it'll be taken down by UA-cam. Write down Strange legend of Tang dynasty watch online for free
Try SHOGUN AvenueX.
You are right about the character of the girl is so annoying on Eternal Brotherhood!
Haven't watched "eternal brotherhood" cause I'm afraid it'll endup like "heroes" ending from 3 people only 1 alive in the end.
After Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, my taste changee..
yea we not into the netflix 3 body. couldnt even handle 5 minutes in because we want Chinese language even if we don't speak it.
It’s so interesting that there is no Chinese drama worth watching! I started watching eternal brotherhood but stopped for the meantime 😮not sure, if I come back , May be ??
I will never watch the directive drama you mention !
At the moment I’m following only
Yon gan dream 20
Everyone loves me 16
They are ok ✅ but they are good to pass my time 🤣
I’m also rewatching some period dramas that where my favourites 👍🏾❤️ still enjoying them!
Thank you 🙏🏾 for all your reviews 👍🏾😊 I always looked forward to see your favourites 😊
I’m enjoying Pegasus
yeah Zichuan Ning was SO ANNOYING!!!
I am on Ep 18 of Eternal Brotherhood and I have a vague idea what is going on. It has not impeded my enjoyment however. That said, how on earth is the dumbest princess on the planet, the heir to the chiefdom? Makes no sense what so ever.
I enjoyed brother hood cos I just forward the “female parts” and watched the politics among men …. Can follow the narrative ….
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just stopped watching EB at ep 17. Completely agree on the FL....why, why, why. The character was super annoying and such a waste of time 😢
Really???the other 2 brother is dead at the end?only zichuan xiu ia alive and became a king?noo...i can't wacth season 2 😱..noo..noo..noo...not after a journey to love...i'm still mourning 😢
I stop watching after episode 1😂
can't compare with game of thrones. game of thrones i dont think happend again
And they always make sure to cast the most mid actress to play the annoying unnecessary female lead
Eternal Brotherhood is just another adaptation that doesn't have anything to do with the source material.
Yeah nothing worth watching lately... its too bad
Plz do crouching tiger hidden dragon review plz that's my request AvenueX
If they are going to make lazy and boring shows, why can't they just try to make a season 2 of tribes and empires. Hell, I'm still waiting for season 2 of My Heroic Husband.
