Jacob was one of the best parts of Trouble in Para-Dise. [edit]OK, now having seen some more of Jacob's antics for the night, I really want a Dice Friends run by Dale, and featuring Serge and Jacob.

I never heard of sandwich spread before watching this live when it first aired. went looking for it and walmart had it, it is now a staple in my fridge. I buy them 4 at a time when they are on sale. amazing stuff, thank you beej.
Actually Ferrero produces these things too... Or at least something very similar. They're called "Küsschen" in German, which translates to kiss or smooch rather.
My family’s weird food thing is a congealed salad-essentially lime Jello with bits of fruit in it (pineapple, I think) mixed with Cool Whip, with another layer of Cool Whip on top of the whole affair once the gelatin is set. A family friend started calling it “green stuff” and that name sort of stuck, I think because it sounds more innocuous than “congealed salad.”
Sounds like a variant on ambrosia salad, though the ones I've had usually had a few more fruit types and also mini marshmallows. (looking up jello dessert salads, Seafoam seems to get used for lime ones.)
My Family Food: When I was growing up, my dad worked days and mom worked nights so there wasn't a whole lot of overlap for family time. We ended up making what we called the Monday Night Special, which was mashed potatoes, canned corn, mac 'n cheese (Kraft), and baked beans. Served separately, but I liked to mix it together. Real tasty, but probably not great for you since it's a big 'ol plate of starch.
Ok, so the chocolates that Serge brought are a thing for me also around the holidays, but like, they're also just a thing in New York, like, they sell them in little bunches or by the peice in delis here
Gods, Jacob is such a gift. And it must've been so difficult for the other people in that bit to avoid corpsing. I was quite surprised that Beej knows about Publix, has he been down to the SE US? Also, I hope I wasn't the only Binding of Isaac player who did a double-take at the episode title.
I'm so happy that "carrot carrot milk carrot milk carrot milk" was turned into a song XD that was my first thought when I heard James say it and I'm glad the internet didn't disappoint
Watching this at work and loudly bark-laughed at the 'blue pages' joke. Not only does everyone think I'm strange now, but I think getting this reference also qualifies my as an 'Old'.
Someone let me know when they figure out what the context for the Ian baby line in Dice Friends is. It's Burning Bright, but hell if I can remember specifics.
My nonna sent us those same chocolates every Christmas, too - and also Kinder Surprise, until US Customs said No. And that smash cut to a bleached white skeleton was wonderful.
Technically yes, but no. Think thousand island dressing + a smidgen of finely diced sweet pickles. Can't speak to In-n-Out™ as I've never been to a part of the US that has that chain.
@@empath69 As someone who grew up in CA: Their burgers are OK, their sauce is a good thousand island but nothing to write home about, but they have the worst fries of any establishment. I'm confused but glad that they're so popular because that means there's less people at the places that I actually want to eat at.
Up here in Canada, it's exactly as Graham says; EVERY supermarket will have some shelf space for a few of these (and usually the Heinz version right alongside it) but I, too, have never heard of anyone ACTUALLY BUYING/CONSUMING this stuff. As an adult, I'd seen it while in the 'spreads/salad dressings' aisle and on a whim bought it once....huh. (in Malcolm Reynolds' voice) Might pick it up every once in a blue moon, but it tends to be richer than the low-fat sandwich spread I get for myself now.
No, Sandwich Spread is NOT a local thing. We get it here in VA and it is DELICIOUS. Imagine having all the condiments you normally put on a sub (mayo, relish, mustard) in one jar ready to go. Beej, I swear, you make any more points that line up with mine and I'll think you're my Canadian double.
If you think "the tangy zip of Miracle Whip"™ works, then this (or as stated in other comments) the Heinz version Sandwich Spread would be interesting too. (IIRC some people just add diced pickles to their tuna salad anyway, so this would save a step :D )
If you can't find the Kraft brand stuff, Heinz also makes a "Sandwich Spread" that's a little different - less sweet and more tart (more diced pickles I guess), but it would be in the ballpark.
Yes, but that's what the rest of the salad is for - redeeming this underwhelming fruit. (IMO, McIntosh can be worse, but it's a very cliche and overdone cultivar up here in Canada)
Hear me out. We get Ross Scott acting lessons and get him to do it. He already looks the part when he has his hair short, and he's been playing the part for over a decade now.
Miracle Whip™ is actually fairly distinct from mayonnaise - the former uses egg whites instead of yolks that mayo has, so it's technically 'healthier' for you; typically the 'store brand' will have a "Whipped Spread" that's essentially repackaged Miracle Whip that Kraft makes for them, right along side their own branding of mayo (which might have been sub-contracted out to Hellman's or whatnot) Also there's more tang to it than mayo - paprika is in most varieties of 'Whipped Spread' along with a handful of other spices. So if Graham (and Beej) have been using Miracle Whip, their 'Astoria Salads' (to borrow another commenter's witty idea) aren't tasting quite the same as the 'official' recipe ...and then we get to these Sandwich Spreads (Heinz makes one that's very similar but a little less sweet and more tart), which would be a wholly different experience. It's entirely possible that they'll also be good in their own right, so if you do try this idea, please let us know!
i had a friend that grew up very poor with a mother that 100% could not cook. so he ate only the worst food but it was normalized. so to him oatmeal that wasn't slightly burnt on the stove is not cooked right and turkey that isn't from a can (similar to spam) doesn't do it right.
Was that Commodore Hustle a final nail in the coffin for GW requests for AFK? I just rewatched the Spack Hulk games last weekened and wished you guys did more 40k stuff - maybe underworkds or a short necromunda campaign
Kraft Sandwhich spread is All Dressed chips seasoning with some bread and butter pickles in it. It's not thousand island, it's not tartar sauce. It's all dressed. It's Canadian. Fight me.
I'll agree with you on what Sandwich Spread is NOT, and that it's Canadian; the rest we will have to have our seconds arrange a time and place to resolve. (personal opinion: Kraft Canada made their own variety after HEINZ Sandwich Spread showed up on grocery shelves exported from the UK where that product is originally from)
Actually Graham, having paid attention to grocery shelves for the past....**coughs awkwardly while saying an equally awkwardly large number** years, I'll admit that Kraft has changed that label maybe twice - I'd even seen once of the product changes WHILE I was working in a supermarket, but yeah IIRC all of them have been as generic and 'fade into the background' as all get out. Say, maybe that's why most of Canada have never tried it - they never even *notice* the unassuming product sitting on the grocery shelf just a little away from the Miracle Whips and Hellman's?
"We don't need more Graham! We have Graham everywhere! Everything is covered in Graham!"
That bit kind of made me want to see a bit where they improved old quotes by filling in the blanks, rather than guessing the blank.
What's funny is that makes as much sense even if you change it to "graham" rather than "Graham". (Graham Crackers, instead of Graham Stark)
Jacob deserves a meddle for that Dead bodies bit
And Serge, Beej and Ian deserve medals for playing dead SO WELL. That's a very tricky thing to do.
I think we have now learned why Jacob has been doing all that exercise.
Jacob is a lot like Andy, in all the good ways.
"...the microwave oven."
"Toaster."
"The microwave toaster!"
Oh, Serge. Never change!
Man, Jacob really carried that whole segment on his shoulders.
Oh, posh, that's a lie...
It was mostly on his lower back.
More of Jacob please! He's a wonderful addition to the crew, with excellent dynamic to the crew's slew of wonderful personalities!

Ian was absolutely on *fire* that first segment.

That improv segment was certainly something!
Jacob is a gift to this world and I'm so glad he's becoming more regular in LRR content. Amazing show as always everyone 😊

The moment Ian said acetone I literally winced. He's a monster!
I sincerely hope they used some prop minis.
According to Wikipedia, Waldorf Salad was originally just apples, celery, and mayo, just like Graham makes it.

We used to call that sort of improv “moving bodies” - that was fabulous
And in conclusion: HORF!!!
Family Food was a really neat segment. Looking forward to a return!
Love the Family Food section. Please do this again!

THANK GOD!!! Someone found and return my soul after that amazing Dead Bodies improv!!! So glad I caught that whole thing live!!
I am so happy that I solved the 'all Ian round' about 10 seconds in based on the third quote.
