So happy to see that those old village buildings still remain. How many of them do I don't know but some of them do. A great reminder of England that is sadly being lost in Leicester, especially in Highfields, Spinney Hills, New Humberstone, North Evington, Belgrave and around Cossington ground.
I lived in Groby from 75 to 2002, many happy memories my grandparents lived on Ratby Road in one of the terraced houses, my grandma used to babysit me during the day and I'd would sit in the front window and watch the "new" houses being built. I remember the Chinese being a fruit shop, cathey stephens was the Co op before moving where pricegate is and where the Co op is now it was the petrol station. Not forgetting the top shops as we called it up lawnwood the off licence, hensons hardware., newsagents, picture video, the wool shop and lawnstores Ah good ol days 😁
Hi Mike, do you know what happened to the groby village website? The one containing all the old photos with the then and now feature. It also had photos of Groby granite.
@@dazhurst8330 Yes I do! It was my website, which ran for over 20 years. Two or three years ago I decided to give it up, but someone from the village came forward to take it on. However, it was re-designed as a lot of my old 'flash' designs no longer worked. The site is here if you wish to take a look - www.groby.org.uk
Well it was a great website so thanks so much for all the hard work you put into it, yes I seen that other site and no where near as good as yours. Thanks for your help Mike 👍
My Aunt used to live next to the old rail track, I assume it ran along Stephensons Close. Her husband worked at Groby Quarry and wold ride the train to work each day. I believe the track was just a few feet from her house. I am assuming this is from the late 60's. I remember the A50 bypass opening and It looks like some of this footage of the Ex Servicemens was taken from the bridge. Happy Memories.
Hi yes that's right my friend went to Desford I think?? I'm only 49 I went brookvale high school 1985- 1988 then groby college 1988- 1990 lived in groby since 1976. The old lorry way? That's up near Chapel Hill, I grew up near Marston drive area kind regards.

Excellent piece of film from the 1960 as I remember it before 'development ' took over. Sic transit gloria mundi - as they say.

Are those old train tracks still there?
No, not any more
Mike Pratt that's a shame, where exactly were they?
No, but there is a walk across from the top of Ratby Rd going towards Glenfield. Ian Sykes, son of the film maker, Reg Sykes
