Pretty much popularity matter more than lives to some like the ones who want the border wall down obviously haven't heard of drug cartels they'll be the first to moan if some Pablo escobar wannabe kidnaps them for ransom and yet they complained and made it so they had to do it in not trying to start a political debate its just a comparison and truth
+Marshall Patrick no lol that wasn't a random taxi the NYPD have a taxi unit which is taxis turned into police cars so they can blend in and you know it's serious when the taxi unit shows up because there isn't that many
That's a good one...for a brief moment I assumed the taxi was maybe undercover police car, maybe it was after all, otherwise the cab driver was responding even faster than the police units. That's New York Shitty...I mean City !!
After all of the terrorism - all of these people RUNNING towards an unknown situation with cops going crazy and swarming the area? NOT REAL SMART PEOPLE!
I know! So dumb! I would have ran as soon as I saw all those police cars FLYING down the road. And at one point you can hear an officer yell "Get back". What is wrong with people?
I mean I might be inclined to watch as well, if I was standing by. But this gigantic horde of people basically RUNNING towards the situation, faster than the cops themselves. Darwin awards! Need a lot of those.
I completely agree. The only people running towards danger should be the emergency responders. When there's a horde of people running TO the danger it makes everything 100 times more difficult for our responders to handle the situation.
It's also somewhat comical how BUSY people make themselves appear....but then somehow can make time to follow a crazed knife wielding man through the streets of New York.
Look at how messed up our society is; people would rather follow an armed and possibly deranged person in mindless droves to witness and record this incident. Seeing this is actually more sickening than the assailant. Let police do their job in protecting the public from this man. The bystanders were so close and yet idiotically surprised when shots were fired at the armed man. This sort of stupidity happens everyday here in NYC where people just don't use their brains. Ugh.
To all those saying taser him, or shoot a leg. A taser (depending on model used) has a range of 15 to 35 feet. 21 Foot Rule - The 21 foot rule states that the average person with a knife or sword can get to and cut a person in about the same time that the average person can draw and fire a handgun. In the time it takes the average officer to recognize a threat, draw his sidearm and fire 2 rounds at center mass, an average subject charging at the officer with a knife or other cutting or stabbing weapon can cover a distance of 21 feet.
axel5166 See this guy gets it. From what i see most of the time its 2-5 cops for one suspect depending on the size/threat and everyone else is there for crowd control. This video highlights the need for such a force when you have an entire city street trying to follow the action.
Nordichost Aps Ok, If I'm behind the gun, I am gonna wait till he comes charging at me. I am not that big of a pussy, as these cops are.. Think about it for christ's sake! literally 30 fucking police officers, and ONE man with a knife... PLEASE EXPLAIN THE LOGIC OF TAKING THIS MAN'S LIFE!?!?
timwitt94 "If...." Get some training AND actually try it and then lets see.... Easy to be a keyboard hero.. And yes, I have trained, and I have been behind the gun for real, so you should actually KNOW things, before you rant about how it SHOULD be - you dont know shit.
Nordichost Aps I have also fired multiple guns, dumb shit.. The fact that 30 fucking police officers could not end that situation without shooting the guy is pretty damn disgusting. Use your fuckin brain!
Not taling about shooting a gun - any dumb shit for brains (looking at you) can do that! Talking about if you have received martial art training, you would respect a knife more - maybe even more than a gun! And besides that, I know how it's like to stand infront of such kind of a person, as the one in this video........ Numbers of police officers doesn't matter! Would you be the one officer, out of 30, who's not going home to your family, because of a person with a knife?? Because that's how your lame and ignorant comments sounds like to me... Sacrifice one, to take him down, so he can live..... Another ting you also "forget" is, that if he runs towards the civilian crowd, then what? If he take a hostage, begins to attack them with the knife or similar and they didn't stop him... Then what??? My guess, mister keyboard hero, are that YOU would sit here and scream "WTF, stupid ass cops, why didn't they shoot him!?!?!?...." Just, please , stfu when you have no clue....
Guy has knife out side London surrounded by around 7 or 8 cops with no firearms but they could call armed back up but the guy gets tazed and safely brought down = no injuries or fatalities! Guy has knife in New York about 30 cops all with handguns drawn = guy gets shot! I'll let you decide witch is better.
Regular cops don't but there are nearly 3,000 armed officers with sub machine gun and handguns spread all over the UK in various forces called "armed response units" or an "armed officer".
The scariest thing about this video is the imbeciles running alongside the road shouting "shoot him" to the police. They obviously have no idea what is going on, the guy might be mentally ill or who knows. Typical American response: shoot now, ask questions later. Luckily the police seemed to have it under control and refrained from shooting until their lives were directly threatened. A sad situation for all involved.
Why are all of these people pulling their cameras out and walking toward a dangerous scene? My best guess is because they're narcissists wanting to take footage for their blog or CNN iReport to get their 15 seconds of fame. They might not realize it, but the fact that 200 of them are swarming around this volatile scene... it escalates an already tense situation.
Reminds me of England in the 18th. and 19th. centuries when executions were spectacles for drunken parties. The difference being we no longer execute and police don't carry guns. However we have a similar situation with drivers "rubber necking" at accidents on our motorways resulting in a greater possibility of further collisions. Seems human nature hasn't changed that much.
They always have a small army down there. I don't think they had to travel more than three blocks. There are tens of thousands of officers in the NYPD.
oh' thats what i see in the video...by the way...thank you for doing the best you could have under all that kaos...and for being in the right place at the right time ...your video is probably the best one out of all that recorded this incident...thank you...
I understand of course the safety of the officers comes first (it would be irrational of me to state otherwise), but the case in point is: the guy had a KNIFE NOT A GUN! They could have easily used several other means to stop him in his tracks as opposed to lethal force. They obviously had no appreciation for the value of human life.
You can't say why didn't you just taze them a tazer has to be charged up to about three seconds and has to have both prongs hit the target in order to be effective one of which is incredibly inaccurate. You also have to hope its actually capable of bringing the person down which most of the time it is not
It is more than just a judgment call. It's a morally correct and humanitarian one! There are several cases where the use of lethal force is uncalled for and this appears to be one. I reiterate that a cop has all rights to protect himself if he feels endangered, but at the same time the response to that feeling should not constitute lethal force IF it is NOT necessary. I stand by what I stated earlier: the man had a knife, therefore they could have shoot to wound and then disarm him. Simple!
I don't know mmmmmaaaaahhhhhnnnnn, All those people walking down the sidewalk....................... All the vehicles that they could have hidden behind before HE had passed beyond them yet........... All the weapons that they could have used to throw at him.................... @ 0:43 ..............the Sabretts umbrella across the street................................ 20 oz. bottles of soda, saw horses (like the one at 0:06), the empty milk crate on the sidewalk @ 0:50............................. This guy didn't HAVE to die.......................
I don't think you can access the situation if you weren't there. UK police do not have guns, only the high ranking specialist armed units have guns and they can be called to the scene if it's dangerous enough.
The fact that the man was walking around with a butcher's knife in the middle of the street clearly suggests that something was amiss mentally with him. As such, I think the police should not have resorted to lethal force. He did not have a gun nor a bomb. There was hoard of cops and several of them fired shots. Sometimes we need to stop attempting to justify acts against humanity done by persons who swear to protect the same people that they harm, unnecessarily. To each his own.
Yeah so here we can see the difference in policy with the UK and NYPD. Times Square is a big place and NYPD's first goal is to protect the people as quickly as possible. Obviously if they didn't want they couldn't but if the police did not shoot when an officer's life was "in danger" the responding officers would have been not compliant with NYPD officer rules.
When one draws a deadly weapon, that person has committed themselves (and police or armed citizen) to being stopped by any means necessary. Knives, guns, machetes pretty much seals a person's fate, more so when the person doesn't comply with police orders to disarm. One has pretty much demonstrated to police that only lethal force can ensure the safety of the public and officers. Why would one expect a police/armed citizen to shoot only once? Would you like warning shots too? How many? 1 or 3?
THE REAL DARRIUS KENNEDY: very talented base player for Anita Baker, Ray Charles and many other greats. He also had a heart of gold, in his twenties he took over-looked youth under his wing to sharpen their musical skills. He was patient, wherever he saw a need that needed to be met, with youth, he would lend his talent and expertise to fulfill it. A very tragic end for a kind-hearted man, who perhaps just needed a little help. The kind of help that he so unselfishly gave to others.
I don't think NYPD is issued tasers...considering they are like 1,000 dollars! But yeah at the end of the day, there were several outcomes that could have chosen.
sad thing is the knife guy was obviously seriously distressed. Sirens are played to drown out any gunshots. can't blame the police here, but different tactics coulda been used if we respected life more here in America. somber moment
Im one of the NYPD officers that was by the police that shot him I shot ones. We told him to put down the knife but he refuse to wave it so we counted down to 10 and we fired.
He doesn't know it. Plus I think they moved it to 26. No use even trying to argue. Everyone thinks, shoot him in the leg, or the arm, or ear, or toe, whatever. But you get a man with a knife vs someone who isn't a cop and they shoot him, everyone has his back for self defense.
100s of passerbys filming, but only find the same clips - why? feeling is, they actually killed him w/o need. strange you read 12 shots, but I only hear 8.
and the best response is to take a butcher knife out and having "200" cops and only fire 12 shots, i think that shows some retrain. you see people complain of miss used of tazers and now NYC does not allow regular officers to carry Tasers. Only a sergeant can carry a taser.
I appreciate my life, which hopefully should be free of people lunging at me with butcher's knives. Just because the guy has a knife doesn't mean he doesn't constitute a threat.
regardless of knife or gun it doesn't matter. The guy clearly had a knife that he was swinging around in an area with a huge mass of people. So you have someone who is clearly not calm if you seen the other vids, with a lethal weapon, and people around who are at risk of being hurt. At what point do you say, oh should we wait or take him down now? I think the police appreciated the lives of those who were at risk more than the guy who was causing a scene with his knife
He dropped something so i gave it back to him. He was carrying a gun and wasn't able to take it. That is why he said "Put it in pocket". Police didn't ask people to stop recording.
Load of people running around, and a load of those people have guns, and of course everyone's reaction is to get as close as they can. Do people not realise how much bullets have a tendency to go through things and bounce around?
Don't make jabbing motions at strangers with knife or this is what happens. Thanks NYPD for saving the life of the people you are sworn to protect. Keep up the good work and never bow to public opinion.
What do you want them to do? NYPD doesnt carry tasers (they should though, idk why they dont). And would you take the chance of pepper spraying a guy coming at you with a giant machete? This isnt an ideal situation, but you have to put yourself in their shoes. A machete is dangerous and when he lunges at you, there is no other choice.
There's like 200 people with their phones out like "Oh man, better get a good angle of this guy dying."
+PvtGermanWagz well yea its 2015 thats what humans do nowadays
+hello goodbye it was 2012
Prysmatic Fire well they still had iphones then
hello goodbye yeah
Pretty sure there was more like 600
I love how people are yelling "shoot him!" and will likely be the first ones on the news bashing the Officer's who pulled the trigger.
+rambosperm exactly

That's when u know its serious when even the fat Italian taxi driver is responding. lol

I can’t even imagine being an NYPD officer. So many massive calls to respond to in a single day. They do a crazy amount of work:
over 30 cops and one criminal, and they had to shoot him. tell me how this makes any sense..

Haha agreed but itll be hard to do when I go to be a cop😂😂😂😂

we have to watch the version from the one guy who wanted to post this, but also stay the furthest away from the action
Officer :Uhh i got a man with a knife Dispatcher: Whats your location Officer: Time square i need the whole N.Y.P.D out here
They always have a small army down there. I don't think they had to travel more than three blocks. There are tens of thousands of officers in the NYPD.

All these people complaining about them filming this - meanwhile they are watching the video that they recorded.
And after the shots? It's one, big Monty Python clusterfuck: "Run away...run away!!!!"
How many cops for this one guy? Damn. Thats like a whole swat team and more
WELL DONE A GOOD JOB PERFORMED BY THE POLICE.
Shots fired at 3:01 for those who don't wish to watch the Earthquake before the shooting. Thanks.
First time I've seen a crowd heading TOWARDS the danger XD
I bet the tourists had a great time !!
Greetings

I love the camera stabilization
Keep the damn camera still!
Maybe you don't realize this but a crazed man isn't going to stop because of a taser.
These people yell shoot him yet they're surprised when he gets shot??
Look at all the sheep running with their phone cameras in the air. What a pathetic society we are.
This is why I love new Yorkall the crazy shit going on

Ни у кого из полицейских, кто был на службе в тот момент, не было тайзера. Их не всем дают
You can't say why didn't you just taze them a tazer has to be charged up to about three seconds and has to have both prongs hit the target in order to be effective one of which is incredibly inaccurate. He got so many chances to drop the weapon, seriously. If he just drop the weapon, they wouldn't shoot him.

same thing I'm thinking! it's crazy, it's not like he had a gun! these law officials need to get better than this!
I don't think you can access the situation if you weren't there. UK police do not have guns, only the high ranking specialist armed units have guns and they can be called to the scene if it's dangerous enough.

I don't know the exact situation, but isn't shooting a man holding a knive a bit out of proportion? :o
That cop really likes that whistle...
It sounded to me like they said "They Shot Him!".... My question is why are they going the direction filled with guns and a knife?
Defiantly a five star wanted level on the GTA4 scale
Yeah so here we can see the difference in policy with the UK and NYPD. Times Square is a big place and NYPD's first goal is to protect the people as quickly as possible. I don't think NYPD is issued tasers...considering they are like 1,000 dollars! But yeah at the end of the day, there were several outcomes that could have chosen.
I heard about 9 shots in the video they was too far away to see the shooting.
sad thing is the knife guy was obviously seriously distressed. Sirens are played to drown out any gunshots. can't blame the police here, but different tactics coulda been used if we respected life more here in America. somber moment
I love the cop on 2:54 he's like you guys wanna see this!??! yall can just stay on the sidewalk :D
Ridiculous how NYPD puts on a show here - so not one cop had a taser on him....?!
You realize more than half of those cops were not armed right?
They kind of over used the priority tone...
i dont think you need 50 police on one guy...
Im one of the NYPD officers that was by the police that shot him I shot ones. We told him to put down the knife but he refuse to wave it so we counted down to 10 and we fired.
He had a KNIFE. You really expect them to risk getting stabbed?
He doesn't know it. Plus I think they moved it to 26. No use even trying to argue. Everyone thinks, shoot him in the leg, or the arm, or ear, or toe, whatever. But you get a man with a knife vs someone who isn't a cop and they shoot him, everyone has his back for self defense.
You would think this was a terrorist attack at first
3:29 cop: put it in your pocket.
don't put in your pocket. film the police. stand up to their brutality.
100s of passerbys filming, but only find the same clips - why? feeling is, they actually killed him w/o need.
strange you read 12 shots, but I only hear 8.
look at the youtube clip of a guy with the knife in london park and how they resolved situation
and the best response is to take a butcher knife out and having "200" cops and only fire 12 shots, i think that shows some retrain. you see people complain of miss used of tazers and now NYC does not allow regular officers to carry Tasers. Only a sergeant can carry a taser.

lol the way everybody is stalking holy shit. more than 100 people
Tell that to cops killed with knives. You have no idea.
3:25 "put it in your pocket." no don't put it your pocket, film the police and their brutality.
He dropped something so i gave it back to him. He was carrying a gun and wasn't able to take it. That is why he said "Put it in pocket". Police didn't ask people to stop recording.

Don't make jabbing motions at strangers with knife or this is what happens. Thanks NYPD for saving the life of the people you are sworn to protect. Keep up the good work and never bow to public opinion.
Nanny Bloomberg needs to start banning knives! Look at all the trouble they cause in his city.
So a taser isnt equivalent to a knife?? They can shoot the taser........ Not just one has a taser....
More cursing than a 12-year-old family guy fan.
Am I the only one watching this going "run faster damnit! I can't see a goddamn thing, I want to see the shooting!" to the guy recording?
Well he lunged at an officer. Police in the United States are required to draw their weapons at times like this.
Worst cameraman ever
What do you want them to do? NYPD doesnt carry tasers (they should though, idk why they dont). And would you take the chance of pepper spraying a guy coming at you with a giant machete? This isnt an ideal situation, but you have to put yourself in their shoes. A machete is dangerous and when he lunges at you, there is no other choice.
I agree with you 110%.
Tazer or leg shoot dont just kill him..... Does police officers not learn this in the US ?
He sold out off meat so he ran down the road with a machete to get more XD 😂😂😂
A lunatic charging the police with a knife getting shot is an example of police brutality?
i entirely agreed
You don't need anyone else to take you down. You do that to yourselves everyday... food for thought ;)
We got called out to a armed man with a knife. So all our units came.
This man caused a giant scene
i live in nyc and this is one thing i hate to see
Good job Police. Support!
