And for that, I respect him. I get players gotta play hard, but when you se the Matt Cookes of the world do their thing, you have to ask why they're taking a game that far.
Can't forget that in the 2006 Playoffs, he posted what turned out to be the second longest shutout streak in NHL History at 249:15, 32 minutes longer than Giguere's streak from 2003!
Bryz was awesome as a player and he still is awesome as a person. He might have been a bit weird or too open, but he still was a damn good goalie. And a great coyote. Thanks bryz.
It's funny how often I hear, "Why you heff to be mad?" quoted online by random people. It made its way into pop culture and it was a dig at my team lol.
Bryzgalov was there when NHL reporters needed an off the wall comment that nobody else would say. He didn't do a lot to dispel the trope that goalies are a bit crazy.
@@SethFinberg I personally think that the players blocking all those shots without goalie pads are the crazy ones. More so with the extra shot power coming off those composite sticks.
I don't know if any of this is still true, but for a while after retirement he still resided in the Philly area and would attend Flyers games in regular lower bowl seats. Very nice guy from all accounts.
Seeing him running that shutout streak in 2006 playoffs that was the moment I started to cheer for the Ducks (Mighty ones at that time). And I was pretty happy with how things went the next season. Now, 17 years after, I'm still a Ducks fan 🦆
It's interesting how signing from FA or trading for a goalie and then giving them a long contact always seems to end up poorly. There might be a few exceptions but it's rare that a goalie keeps up their high performance for a whole contract unless they are exceptional like Kiprusoff
as a ducks fan i have to say i was SHOCKED at him being waived...but it always good to see him doing so well ...i believe he also has one of the longest shutout streaks in the playoffs? or at least did when it happened? anyway...great video as always! :)
The main problem with the Bryz situation I had as a Flyers fan (besides it mostly being a disaster) is we already had Bobrovsky. Sure he was unproven at the time but almost all of us wanted to give him a chance. We all know how it turned out when we shipped him out 😢
I like to sometimes imagine a world where we have the top 6 we had in '14-'19 with Bob as our main backstop instead of Leighton/Mason/Emery and eventually Hart. Could you imagine Hart being our backup to Bob during those later years? The hardware we could have had man.
I just remember when he spent a little time with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL and would take the team out and say dinner is on the Flyers. But I'm not bitter.
If I remember Burke promised Bryz a starting job, then with Teemu and Scotty indecisiveness made it hard for Burke to do anything about it and waived him so Bryz could be a starter on another team.
It’s funny he mentions the cold of Winnipeg and Edmonton when his hometown is on average one of the coldest places on earth. He clearly liked the sun lol
For some reason i remeber brian burke waiving him on purpose cause they went with hiller and they wanted to fo hood by ilya so they put him pn waivers to get him a place to play
"Why you heff to be mad i know its minus thirty here very cold" one of the funniest guys bryzzzz was peak entertainment in the nhl was awsome to watch as well
You're pronouncing it right Shannon! It's BryzgAlov, not BrYzgalov, the stress falls on A. But you didn't mention that in 11-12 Flyers had Bryzgalov and Bobrovsky, and they traded Bobrovsky and kept Bryzgalov. I guess it still drives Flyers fans mad.
I'm sure if every player was really being honest, there would be a lot of angry fans. I guarantee a lot of players, especially American-born players, would rather play in their home country, and not just because it's their home country. Lower taxes, potentially better weather, and a better chance to win.
Man that buyout is insane. The fact he gets paid 20 million over 12 years is crazy. That is so fuckin lucky. Then made another 4 million being a backup. Unbelievable
It’s always good to remind people that it’s Stanley Cup winner Ilya Bryzgalov in this humongous universe and we don’t heff to be mad.
Our humongous big solar system didn't deserve Ilya but it needed him.
Humangous*
"Think about that, could you imagine?!" Always the philosopher.
I don’t think anyone can remember Bryz without thinking about “why you have to be mad?”
Why you haev to be mad? It's only a game.
I think "universe is humongous big"
And for that, I respect him. I get players gotta play hard, but when you se the Matt Cookes of the world do their thing, you have to ask why they're taking a game that far.
He's a good guy...
Khev*
Old Bryzgalov interviews still live in my head rent free 😅
"My huskie is hot like blonde girl" - wont ever forget this line in 24/7
Can't forget that in the 2006 Playoffs, he posted what turned out to be the second longest shutout streak in NHL History at 249:15, 32 minutes longer than Giguere's streak from 2003!
He wasn't afraid of playing in Philadelphia. He's afraid of a bear in a forest. 😄 What a legend..
Bryz was awesome as a player and he still is awesome as a person.
He might have been a bit weird or too open, but he still was a damn good goalie.
And a great coyote. Thanks bryz.
Always liked Bryz and his frank openness. His humor was also top shelf. Thanks for reminding us of his career, Shannon.
When you think of Bryzgalov, you think about his unique personality. You almost forget that he had a strong career.
Managed to get 3 wins in the '07 cup run. Actually earned his Cup unlike a lot of backups. A Russian complaining about the cold is hilarious.
It's funny how often I hear, "Why you heff to be mad?" quoted online by random people. It made its way into pop culture and it was a dig at my team lol.
The most interesting goalie in the world.
Truly one of the goalies of all time. Love you, Bryz!
If anyone deserves an induction into The Hockey Guy Hall of Fame it's Mr. Universe!
"it's only a game, why you hyave to be myad?"
Bryzgalov was there when NHL reporters needed an off the wall comment that nobody else would say. He didn't do a lot to dispel the trope that goalies are a bit crazy.
I’m crazy and I’ll admit I’m a goalie 😎
@@SethFinberg I personally think that the players blocking all those shots without goalie pads are the crazy ones. More so with the extra shot power coming off those composite sticks.
The love I have for Bryz will always be like our solar system. So humangous big.
I don't know if any of this is still true, but for a while after retirement he still resided in the Philly area and would attend Flyers games in regular lower bowl seats. Very nice guy from all accounts.
He only just recently in the past year or so sold his house in Philly to move down to FL, so you definitely heard right
Thank u Shannon, I made a Bryz suggestion the other day so this video makes me excited 😍
The NHL could use 1 or 2 more like Bryz , what a legend
this might be your best video ever just from the title. It's a cautionary tale about a guy scared of bears
Seeing him running that shutout streak in 2006 playoffs that was the moment I started to cheer for the Ducks (Mighty ones at that time). And I was pretty happy with how things went the next season. Now, 17 years after, I'm still a Ducks fan 🦆
That was me with Jiggy in 2003
YES THE LEGEND OF BRYZ
Favorite Goalie by sheer attitude and character
Need more hockey players with personality
Bryzgalov! Let’s go!
Wow, that trio of Kuemper, Backstrom, and Harding in Minnesota was certainly a tandem
The brief time he was in Minnesota was fun.
He went to an all star game a few years ago and interviewed people. He was hysterical and should be on TV still
Have you ever done a video on the best waiver wire pickups? Might be interesting to see who would be on that list.
It's interesting how signing from FA or trading for a goalie and then giving them a long contact always seems to end up poorly. There might be a few exceptions but it's rare that a goalie keeps up their high performance for a whole contract unless they are exceptional like Kiprusoff
Lol he thought that if he wasn’t a goalie he’d be a cosmonaut
Definitely one of my favorite players just for the interviews. Players need more personality like Bryz had.
Legend for sure!
he was a monster in the 06 playoffs with the ducks
One of the greatest hockey philosophers
"It's only game, why you heff to be mehd? He's a good guy"
as a ducks fan i have to say i was SHOCKED at him being waived...but it always good to see him doing so well ...i believe he also has one of the longest shutout streaks in the playoffs? or at least did when it happened? anyway...great video as always! :)
That's the easiest click I'll have all day.
I anticipate no mention of stats or career achievements. Solar System so humungous big.
The main problem with the Bryz situation I had as a Flyers fan (besides it mostly being a disaster) is we already had Bobrovsky. Sure he was unproven at the time but almost all of us wanted to give him a chance. We all know how it turned out when we shipped him out 😢

his math question bit at the all star game is soooooo jokes
I have nothing against someone not wanting to play in Winnipeg. I live in Toronto and it gets cold with the winds here but nothing like Winnipeg.
Even if I wasn’t a ducks fan I’d love Bryz. Why you heff to be mad?
My love for this one is humongous big
If I could have lunch with any two people, it's definitely Ilya Bryzgalov and Tommy Wiseau.
Bryzgalov's personality perfectly suited the position he played on the ice.
One my favorites.
One of the more interesting players from that era...
I just remember when he spent a little time with the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL and would take the team out and say dinner is on the Flyers.
But I'm not bitter.
Everyone here talking about the universe and why you heff to be mad, but they forget Bryz proved the existence of aliens on live television!
I like when he got all the cartoon ducks on his mask. "Darkwing duck, he is like a superhero. I am like that - a superhero."
That Phily contract looks crazy now. What a fun guy though
...and people say goalies are weird.
As a Coyotes fan this guy earns a pass every time. Loved him even though it didn't always go his way. 😋
The solar system is so humongous biiiiiiiiig
If I remember Burke promised Bryz a starting job, then with Teemu and Scotty indecisiveness made it hard for Burke to do anything about it and waived him so Bryz could be a starter on another team.
It’s funny he mentions the cold of Winnipeg and Edmonton when his hometown is on average one of the coldest places on earth. He clearly liked the sun lol
So how about a career video of PJ Axelsson?
Stanley Cup champ and he got a ton of money in free agency. Thats a successful career in its own
Dont blame him for not wanting to play up north the winters suck
For some reason i remeber brian burke waiving him on purpose cause they went with hiller and they wanted to fo hood by ilya so they put him pn waivers to get him a place to play
I'm no meteorologist but isn't Philly pretty cold too lol
“It’s only game. Why you heff to be mad?”
Can you do career of Zetterberg and Hejduk?
Legend
"It s only a game. Why you hef to be mad?"
2014 was the first season that we saw Phoenix Coyotes become Arizona Coyotes *
"Why you heff to be mad i know its minus thirty here very cold" one of the funniest guys bryzzzz was peak entertainment in the nhl was awsome to watch as well
risky bryzness time.
The Bryz!!!
Like it isn't cold in Philly
Oddly enough, I thought he was still playing.
sad that he’s only remembered as a meme instead of his talent
That's some risky Bryzness. I always found it unfair that a guy afraid of bears played for a team called the wild
Didn't realize he was hockey's Bobby Bonilla lol.
"It's only a gaaame. Why you heff to be mad?"

to be fair Bob is equally inconsistent as Bryz was. Bob has played some real stinker seasons.

A russian who doesn't like the cold. That's a hell of a head spin.
Next to career of Jimmy howard
At least he won a cup
Go Sens Go!
It's only game. Why you have to be mad?
Humongous big. Wish the Yotes would have kept him
6 seasons in Anaheim and 4 in Arizona but you’re in a Yotes jersey?
He easily had his best years in Phoenix.
It's only game, why you hef to be mad?
😅 Just like Bryzy I also am afraid of 🐻 BEARS! 😂
"Eez only game"
It’s only game, why you have to be mad? Ilya is awesome
Who knows,Yotes might have won the cup the year after Briz left?
It’s only a game why you have to be mad
I wonder if the Ducks could have won another Cup had they not waived him?
No we got rid of Andy Mac who had incredible chemistry with Teemu
It’s too soon, man.
Not gonna lie. It hurts still.
We’ll be paying him till 2027.. 1.6M every year
No cap hit though so doesn't impact your team on the ice. Just buy an extra cheese steak and beer each season for Bryz.
@@mhedden033 some things aren’t about cap hits
Its only game
We traded away bob to sign this bum worst decision in franchise history
Thank goodness he never played for Bruins
Why you heff to be mad??
it's only game why you heff to be mad
Is only game y u haff 2 b mad
