What a picturesque video - and such a lovely 3 arch bridge. I get so cross when these great structures are spoiled by the wretched graffiti. It's not art, it's vandalism. Thanks again, Ant - and such a beautiful day you had!
Ant, I am always amazed by the Craftsmanship of the old infrastructure and the high quality of the materials used, that "corrugated circular tubular structure" at 12:17 hasn't got a snowballs chance in hell of lasting as long.
Thanks very much for doing video. I remember the line carrying goods traffic in its last two years. Then they ripped up the track. Then enjoyed playing on the disused bit between Bingham Road station and Tythby Road. Saxondale Junction was quite an elaborate piece of trackwork. There were four roads (tracks) between Saxondale Junction and Radcliffe-on-Trent with double arch bridges (still there). The two-road disused track bed became a sort of test track in the late 1960s. I think they tried working trains over a variety of new designs for sleepers.
The 'random' piles of ballast are to encourage the growth of Creeping cinquefoil, the food plant of the Grizzled skipper, a rare butterfly. Great videos if the places I walk and work.
Marvellous, really enjoyed this, very informative . In a way we are fortunate to be able to walk some of these old lines still. If they were all private we would have no idea what it was like
I love abandoned railway walks, the first bridge was stunning, beautiful brickwork. Even the occupation bride is well done. Nice chilled walk, thank you 🚶👍
Excellent video Ant, plus glorious weather, winter light is wonderful. Totally agree about the Graffiti, why do they have to deface everything. Look forward to your Lincolnshire Trekking.
I walked this line a few years ago and further on from where you finished the walk is an old concrete plate layers hut looking a bit worse for wear but yes it does get a bit muddy and more overgrown the further you walk but all the same a lovely old railway walk.
Hi mate loved this video I love walking and getting out and about myself, please could you do a video of the old mapperley tunnels loads of history great photos you could get there look it up great railway history also 👍🏻
I went to secondary school in Bingham in the 1970s, and each winter the 'Games' teachers would send us all round a Cross Country course that included dropping down into that cutting, running along the old trackbed (still the original granite chippings in those days) and then back up and out.
Beautiful bridges with nice graffiti. Lovely day for your walk. Great findings. Very informative as always Ant. Great drone filming as well. Thank you for very enjoyable video.
Looking at the bridge at 15:00, I wonder if the coping stones formed into a semi circle and the three left under the bridge came from the bridge initially. The top row of bricks look newer than the ones forming the wall of the bridge, suggesting to me that the coping stones were removed for use on the old track bed and then replaced by the more modern bricks. Just guessing though.
I wonder if someone in eighty years time will stop and marvel at that corrugated tunnel😂😂😂 Good, crisp walk with lots of little nuggets lost in time, superb👍👍👍👍
I'm definitely going to have to give that a go soon. As it's only 15 minutes away from me. It'll make a smashing little dog walk. Another interesting video Ant.
Great video! Stephen and I walked from Bingham to just past the A52 a few years back. That weird line of stones near the A52 confused us. Only thing I could think of was maybe farm related. A pen for cattle?
Nice bit of country round there, cycled the Grantham Canal some years back, which as you note is in the vicinity - parts were a bit rough on a bike then, i'm guessing they've done more work on it since (and you can never watch too much 'Father Ted' BTW :).
Hi Ant, for your knowledge ,I have just looked on komoot and the trail continues until you come to a field that crosses the path . Again I enjoyed the video, thanks.
I live about half a mile from where the old Bingham Road Station would have been, and often walk my dog along the old railway line going out towards Barnstone. You can’t get much further than the River Smite crossing, following the route of the trackbed. I tried it on my bike once, but got cut to ribbons by the brambles!
You're down in the Belvoir that Jonathan Agnew and Phil Tuffnel often talk about! It looks to me as though Tithby road Bridge has been widened with a new concrete deck having been laid on top of the original blue brick arches.
Thanks Ant , another great video. Shame about all the graffiti on those lovely bridges. Lovely Architecture. Never ceases to amaze me how far the little scrotes manage to go off the beaten track to ruin things for others. Hate Graffiti
love your work . Have you done anything on the old Bulwell industrial line that I believed ran adjacent to the Sand Quarry . My local Church sits in area were the workings are still exposed . interested to know more on the history .
I think that’s what Ant meant. The new a46 dual carriageway opened in 2011 which a totally new road which is what Ant was eluding to. The old a46 fosse road is still there in sections mainly empty now but used locally for access.
The line from Bottesford junction down to Redmile HMG fuel depot was still in place right up to the early 80s if my memory serves me correctly. Pictures seem to be non existent though.
@ top ends clear up to the Grantham / Nottingham line, but very overgrown heading south after you leave bottesford. Still a few buildings at the old fuel depot but not sure about going access or who owns it now.
Sometimes I think that I was born in the wrong Era - may be 50 or 60 yrs late - would of been nice to go to any Railway Line & see The Steam Locos Thundering throu...!!! @ 17:17 Nope I don't think that you swore either 😉- I agree with you thou - Shame in the country side they have to do all that graffiti but in-saying that @ 10:30 if they do Art- work which give a Nod to the Railways then I don't mind as much 🤔😉🚂🚂🚂
Ugh corrugated underpasses! Actually I don't mind them really but they don't compare to the original architecture of the railways. That mural on the previous bridge was nice.... the graffiti not so much. Those coping stones have been pushed over by some vandals I'd say... and I know a swearword when I hear one!! ;) But fair comment I'd say. Youths of Bingham really have nothing to do if they're willing to walk that far to do some graffiti!
It's not art, much of it's not even nice or picturesque. I wish they'd leave well alone, or at least try to paint something decent, something nice to look at.

Oh that's really interesting thank you. That's good to know ☺️
Another very great video. Your enthusiasm is what makes these videos so interesting.👍
Excellent video really enjoyed watching it so interesting to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it thank you 😌
I went to Bingham Comp school in the early 70's & this railway formed part of our cross-country running route :)
Excellent as always Ant. 👍👍
Thanks very much John
Great video! Well narrated with interesting detail about the track and ancillaries. Given me an idea for a Spring/summer walk or cycle ride.
Cracking drone shots on a beautiful day Ant. I can feel that frost from the comfort of my home! Keep it up.
Glad you enjoyed it Jim thank you :)
lovely area the railway had some great routes...
Enjoyed watching like the music as well

High quality, high frequency vids. ❤
Very kind thank you
all the bits i missed whilst delivering to bottesford and bingham 32 years ago Ant cheers

Lovely video thanks Ant. What a beautiful spot that is. Gorgeous bridges. Thanks for taking me along. Please take care

I think trackbed running was quite common in the 60s and 70s wasn't it? I've seen many a film and photo featuring it

thanks for this film. caroline.

Many an hour spent on the Bingham railway in my youth, about 50 years ago.
Some impressive brick arches on this very enjoyable walk. Thank you.
Thank you very much for watching Malcolm
Top man yet another nugget fantastic keep them coming 👍👍
Thanks so much Andrew ☺️
Brilliant! Absolutely love these vids....very inspiring for inspiration on my model railway.....nice one Ant

Very kind thanks very much for watching
My bad just saw you have already explored this 🤣👍🏻 man you get around 👍🏻🤣
As entertaining and informative as ever, Thanks for posting your walks,
Thanks very much Sarah 😀😀
Never new this line , I used to fish in Barnston Quarry. Great content I cycle a lot it would make nice greenway
It's a lovely little stretch. Thanks for watching
I wonder if someone in eighty years time will stop and marvel at that corrugated tunnel😂😂😂 Good, crisp walk with lots of little nuggets lost in time, superb👍👍👍👍
Wouldn't have thought they needed so many earthworks on a railway in such level countryside !!?
I'm definitely going to have to give that a go soon. As it's only 15 minutes away from me. It'll make a smashing little dog walk. Another interesting video Ant.
Excellent video 👍🏼😄
Thanks very much 😀

Hate Graffiti
The A52 bypass opened in 1986. Before that opened there would have been no need for a road bridge over the old cutting, as there was no road!
love your work . Have you done anything on the old Bulwell industrial line that I believed ran adjacent to the Sand Quarry . My local Church sits in area were the workings are still exposed . interested to know more on the history .
Great video, have you ever considered visiting The McClean Way, on the South Staffordshire Line?
I bet you didn't find the platforms of Bingham Road station, they are still there under the Ivy.I found one of them late last year.
It's called the River Smite because it floods really bad and smites the surrounding area.
I bet it's quite a sight with all those flat fields in Flood
A46 has been open for many decades - the dualling is what is new, FYI.
Okay
I think that’s what Ant meant. The new a46 dual carriageway opened in 2011 which a totally new road which is what Ant was eluding to. The old a46 fosse road is still there in sections mainly empty now but used locally for access.
@matthewtrueblood408 that's exactly it. Cheers Matthew

It's one I'd be interested in doing but unsure how much you can get to. It's a long way out at the opposite end if there's nothing to see isn't it?
@ top ends clear up to the Grantham / Nottingham line, but very overgrown heading south after you leave bottesford. Still a few buildings at the old fuel depot but not sure about going access or who owns it now.
@greigs9384 it might be one I'll have to miss. Thank you for the information ☺️
Where abouts do you start in bingham???
The in video maps show where I went. The main walk from Nottingham road around a mile outside of Bingham
@TrekkingExploration watching it now.
Thanks .
Might go down one day this week
@markwebster7128 it's definitely worth a walk
@@TrekkingExploration I'll probably end up going the wrong way lol
