I used to watch this as a kid hyping myself up about the game, dream to play it(I had no powerful computer at the time). I used to think the graphics were so good, and it still is now.
I saw this footage back in the day and couldn't believe my eyes. The graphics were mindblowing back in the 2000's and they still hold up. Good memories seeing the alpha gameplay and trying to get money together for new hardware. Miss those days like nothing else.
Notice the odd cuts at times? I guess they wanted to make the gameplay feel extremely cinematic by stitching together the most "immersive" outcomes, probably had to play this through dozens of times, place the npcs here and there, kinda like filming one of those Gmod videos, those cinematic first person "realism" mod videos, they use similar tricks.
I used to have a PSP back in the day. I downloaded this video on it, brought it to elementary school, and watched this video every single day with my classmates!
@DSOXBLADE Everything undergoes drastic changes before release. 90% of the time a game's alpha looks way different then the final game. In fact it usually looks better because they are more ambitious, but as time constraints press on they have to cut and change things to release.
wow, head bobbing, death animations and some other stuff look way better then they do right now, pitty they changed those cool stuff. Anyway, nice video :)
Looks can be decieving, very decieving. CryTek has released this map on Crymod, and when playing it you can see that its only a small immediate area that is dense jungle, the rest is pretty barren. The problem with full maps of such dense jungle would simply have been unplable when Crysis was released.
Some guy actually remade the same sniper scope, SCAR, and assault scope. Add it with the fact that you can download this map, its pretty sick, and very alpha-like.
@MouthofSaurons thank you. Its nice to see someone who realizes this rather than the usual ALPHA LOOKS AMAZING, FINAL LOOKS CRAP FRAUH argument. The real reason the alpha does look better, despite matching medium settings, is that it has a stylistic look and feel (well, as much as you can get a feel from watching the video) that final crysis lacks. Little things that make it more fun to watch.
there is a mod of this in crysis mod db. ANYWAY, this is not a better version because textures are low, more bugs, less graphical details and other stuff. My favorite mods are blackfires ultimate and extreme immersive.
@Darkness Believer nah, mate, it’s not only about the graphics. the game had completely other concept, semi-open world fps with rpg elements, take a look at Cevat’s interviews in 2006s. I think the game was already too ahead of its time, so they had to cancel all these elements, otherwise it would be playable only by this time :D
yep i know, the post i made was before they announced it, crytek made a statement in 2007 that crysis 2 would be 3-4 years away so i dont think it's possible they will use cryengine 3 for it. possibly a enhanced cryengine 2? who knows.
@@afterbusters134 Hello there , you just reply on a 10 years old comment ... for your luck i still remember why i commented that , you see i was reffering to the HUD , Sounds , Guns, scopes and suit models ... that is all they changed actually , the graphics remained the same to the final release if not changed to be better
@@georgefromjungle5211 I do agree with you .. i dont see the issue here , all i said was that it has been 10 years but luckily i still remembered why i did the question
Because you're wearing the nanosuit, and you landed in water. If you want something to judge, in Crysis 3 you fall out of space and land in the Lingshan water and you still live. (I know this was 3 years before C3 but still)
uhhh no. there is no cryengine 3. crytek added all the extra's you see in the video to an alpha version of the game, which means it wasn't fully complete. they removed most of the features and most importantly reduced the quality of the original shaders for an unknown reason (my guess is, it was too much for pc's of today's standards). cryengine 3 will be much much more advanced than this video.
@gregoryjjasadirana94 When a software (in this case, a game) is developed it goes through a design method which involves many phases. once the software is put together (coded & developed) it goes beta testing (that is to to check how well it performs... before that would be the alpha stage.. this is not released to public and the software will have many problems and defect code... hope it helps

I think the same thing back then, I think only 4 years after this game came out, I managed to have a PC that I could play with 35> fps at low settings

crytek, crysis and cryengine is a milestone in the game history forever.
For anyone wondering, this is from the CES [January] 2007 demo of Crysis.

Crytek should release all of their alpha files from when they made this video to the public.

Can i play this exact version of crysis?
damn man this is better from the final realese !!!!
why they change it ?
cuz if they release the alpha version, ppl will not be able to play it
